Hi YG, love your videos, I learn a lot from them. One thing I was surprised you didn’t mention, seeing as you spent so much time on the Italian bomber. One thing I LOVE to do with it is bomb the Gibraltar naval base. The UK player almost never fixes the damage, they’ve got so many other things to worry about building up London, Persia etc. And it can stop the US player being able to get transports back to the US or up to Norway. I find this raid a quite effective use of that Italian bomber.
I've always said Strategic Bombers can do more damage destroying units as opposed to the bombing raids....the value of units bombers kill adds up quickly. Always hated getting one shot down on a bombing raid, then the raid isn't worth it. Great stuff once again Young Grasshopper!
Thanks for these videos, I just recently got these 2 A&A 1940 2nd ed and have yet to play. I recall most A&A games are said to be 6 months / turn, I feel 3 months is more accurate in a long well fought game. The 1940 timeline here must be spring because Paris hasn't been taken at game start. Bismarck is spring 1941, Terpitz probably summer or fall. Is there any possibility of Italy not being at war on game turn 1 ? This Italian Declaration of War was a huge axis loss, England wiped them out in Africa and the Mediterranean, the Greeks beat them badly as well, I'd think they were a major liability for the axis cause with not many great successes to contribute.
Hey YG, Great video. Bombing raids can be great if they work but getting shot down once or twice if enough to leave a sour taste in your mouth for the rest of the game.
I used to only rarely buy strategic bombers due to their cost, and I'd mainly just use them for strategic bombing of factories. As time went on tho, I realized just how cost effective they are even when not using them for the bombing of factories at all. (If the Axis and Allies version they're in has them costing $12 and attacking at 4)
What is the most effective way to bomb the factory in eastern Germany? From the UK or Scotland, you cannot reach. There is Leningrad or Norway. How do you do it usually? It used to be more effective in Anniversary edition.
Is it possible to get a decent Norway foothold? It was easy in the original game but not so much in the 1940 edition. (The Brits did a lot of Norway action in the war.)
I buy a Russian bomber on turn two and base it in Leningrad. I also buy a TAC on the first turn and base that in Leningrad along with the other TAC and the two fighters. As soon the war starts Russia can either sink the German fleet,assuming it’s not beefed up or well defended by fighters,or raid the factory if there aren’t any interceptors present. Usually there are not. The last time I I did this I sank the German fleet on the fourth turn and bombed the factory on the fifth and sixth turns to tune of 20$. The Germans also had to spend 15$ on an airbase and leave interceptors to defend the factory. turn. Total German cost for all of this was 84$. The Russian cost was 23$.

If I were to redesign the game... bombers would require two hit to shoot down.

Only reason I can see for bombing the franch factories is to prepare a neutral crush for the US in Spain

do you play the game with the rules out of the box or the bloodbath rules?
I play either oob or my tournament edition rules... for Blood Bath Rules checkout channels like GIJoe, Siredblood, or the Chaplin.
