Could Mega Incineroar actually be GOOD for VGC?

- A huge "Hear me out" video but I think there is some really interesting things to consider when talking about the prospect of Mega Incineroar. Would love to hear what you think about the topic of the video, as well as the video on its own as it's the first one in this style that I've done.

I stream over on / datguyjimmeh pretty regularly if you'd like to come hang out! - Hry
Imagine mega incineroar still has intimidate which means when incineroar goes in and mega evolves it gives a double intimidate so -2 attack and flexibility wouldn't be lost since you still have intimidate, though the trade-off for better stats for no item is pretty fair for me tbh.
Yeah if it does get intimidate this video kinda explains why it shouldnt. I should have talked about it more but if it does we’re screwed lol.
just turn it into a bulky version of Flutter mane Lmao
make him have a new ability that is just SpA intimidate
People talking about giving Mega Incin intimidate, but hear me out: Special intimidate. Its a different but still cool support option
I like this idea because it would mean youd have to choose not only which version youd like to have, but when youd have to commit to losing the physical one. God forbid you catch a defiant mon switching in on the mega evolution for a +2 attack lmao
You still have intimidate before mega.
I assumed you were a huge channel, you're insanely underrated.
thank you! first time i tried anything like this so happy to hear people are liking it!
True, maybe not huge but at least decently sized. This production quality is nuts for 70 subs.
@@datguyjimmeh keep it up, you def have lots of potential!
I'ma sub for more
@@dashspiegelman2000 Ill say it here but hoping to get a big video out before i leave for Orlando regionals on thursday! If its not out by then it will be within the week after. Thanks for the support it means a lot!
Poor Wolfey bruh 😭
He would hate this video dont let him see it
They could just use the Kalos starters, but give Battle Bond to all of them
Someone else suggested this too! I didnt even consider the battle bond option and that would be super cool, though they kinda went crazy with greninja so idk if theyd do that again, let alone make them as good as he was
I think it's interesting that nobody seems to be considering that a supposed Mega Evolution could be for a regional form of Incineroar, instead of base.
Mega Incineroar's signature move drops every pokemon's attack and special attack by six stages while doing a slow attack that hits 6 times. It also gets the ability "wrestling ring" which prevents any pokemon from switching. Effectively slowing down games to take 5 times as long.
every mon in the format begging for their trainer to let them be the one to wear the clear amulet they're allowed per team
nobody is ready for the clear smog amoonguss onto your ally meta
Tepig would be the most fitting if it wasn't for snivy being french.
wait i totally forgot about that. i think that almost increases the odds of seeing incin or infernape if that's what decides the grass starter. rip piggy
Moxie would also make sense as two other intimidate Pokémon have it as an alternate ability.
I think what has to happen for it to not be a nightmare competitively is that mega incineroar must lose intimidate. I personally would love to see him get a mega, but it’s up to game freak to not drop the ball
Incineroar is just too cool, let the haters haters and give em a mega
I say: Bring it on.
The haters of the haters of the Incineroar haters, hate intimidate
All jokes aside incineroar without intimidate would just make it a lot less viable
@@APPELxMOS so just dont mega evolve it. Thats why i like the idea of the mega as long as it doesnt keep intimidate. Risks defensive value for offense and becomes very dynamic
I wholeheartedly agree. Incin is one of the coolest and best starters ever imo. As a heel, Incin thrives in the hate.
I will say the same thing about volcarona, even if it means giving up boots.
Mega incineroar from the thumb looks like a megaman x boss.
Are you ready for “King of the Ring” ability that lowers both AT and SPAT, as well as a +50 boost to DF and SPDF while lowering speed by 15 and giving those stats to its attack?
Sounds awful until you factor in the defiant/competitive ability, giving a +2 when he enters the field and +4 on mega evolution. I mean even mirror armor would be hilarious in front of it also. Defiant stonks SKYROCKET lol
@@datguyjimmeh Ah they'll keep it super strong somehow. Incineroar is supposed to be a heel so keeping it hated is definitely something that is important to GF.
This video glazes over the stat, typing, and ability change that comes with having a new form. For all we know, lumiosian incin would be a dast, special sweeper
I do kind of touch on that, albeit briefly, but the main purpose is to talk about the potential trade off you'd have to make to get value out of a mega form. There could be a regional variant that throws all of this out the window but thats different than a mega. I do specifically mention it would be cool to see the mgea become fast offense and sacrifice bulk which would be interesting
@@datguyjimmeh well, it would have to be a mega for the regional form, since otherwise it would likely be unobtainable in game
My boy Meganium needs a Mega. He will finally get respect if he gets better stats and ability.
Cue Scrappy Mega Incineroar so it can Fake Out Ghosts.
I thought about this and it could be very useful but also a massive risk since youd essentially mega evolve for 1 maybe 2 turns and also lose intimidate. Still cool tho
intim is already the perfect ability for incineroar, so giving it a new ability would be a nerf. This kind of goes aginst the "ideology" of mega evolving so can see incinerorar keeping its ability upon mega evolving just like blaziken does. However if it does get a new ability I think there could definitely be some cool abilities that whould take incinerroar in a new direction. If we want incinerar to be more of an offensive threat upon mega evolving I think the abilities Costar, Defiant, Opportunist, Stakeout, Super luck, and Tough claws could work both gameplay wise and thematically for incineroar. If we want incineroar to keep being a supportive pokemon upon mega evolving then keeping intimidate would be amazing for it. But some other abilities I think would fit are Filter, Flame body, Infiltrator, Inner focus, Mold breaker, Prankster, Scrappy, and wimp out.
I'm all for it in general. I want Mega Empoleon for the water, and grass Meganium would be interesting, but Superior would probably be it.
very detailed vid
i tend to ramble so i this was me trying to keep it shorter lmao
ur find u got my sub 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
and they're all ✨skrinkles✨
My nuts ✨itch✨
Would it stand down is the real question.
Joking of course, incineroar has a cool design either way and I’ll be looking forward to whatever Gamefreak decides to do with him.
A Mega Infernape or Emboar would be awesome
honestly the thing i want is new megas/battlebonds for the existing ones
greninja is my favorite starter, and its gotten enough love
but the other two pretty much got shafted, give them two some love
Gen 2 seems to get shafted always. Besides Typhlosion with a Hisui varient the Starters have got nothing despite Gen 1 and 3 starters all getting megas. It's annoying how much favoritism Charizard has. I really like the gen 2 starters but everyone hates them. Especially Meganium.
I'm just gonna assume mega incineroar just gonna be the same situation like mega garchomp where it base form give more utilities and roles while it mega only work as a sweeper and wall breaker which there just gonna be better option, tbh I just hoping for mega talonflame and mega flygon 😂 and I have a question wat Pokémon do u think need mega the most ?
Imagine if Mega Charizard Z ends up being a Fire/Dark type with Intimidate
My theory: Mega Incineroar will get special intimidate

I really appreciate it thanks!
Idk if I like it as much. Giving more flexibility to a pokemon that it’s main selling point is the flexibility is a bit much. Now he is not just a jack of all trades and master of all of them in the defensive side, he would be it in literally every side of the game. I think if he could be used in multiple defensive ways AND an offensive way he would be in 99% of the teams. Even worse than in it’s peak imo. Instead, giving a mega for a fire fighting mon that is not that frail (aka tepig) would be better at stopping inceneroar. It would be even better if it got defiant or inner focus.
thing is, snivy and piplup are already HIGHLY likely for z-a, which makes chimchar and tepig far LESS likely, in turn making cinderace and incineroar by far the two most likely picks
Personally I think that Incineroar should get a +10 priority 170 base power stab fake out as well as a -3 attack and special attack drop intimidate 😄🔫
I agree. Then we’d never even need the mega version. Problem solved
Infernape, Incineroar, & Emboar were all the starters I chose first in my playthrough of their respective games but I'd only want to see a mega incineroar for it to be viable in singles, if not then I'd want mega Infernape because bro that'd be cool as hell 💀
Imagine if Mega Incineroar got a new ability when mega evolved that acts likes intimidate but for both attack and spattack. Imagine, in the first two turns you experience: Intimidate drop, Mega Spattack/Attack drop, fake out flinch, Parting Shot.
You’d end up with one Pokémon with -2 attack/-1 spattack and the other with -3 attack/-2 spattack
Now imagine that same scenario but you have a kingambit or milotic on your side of the field. Free +1atk/+2spatk before the mega evoltion then both would end at +4atk/+5spatk depending on the ability. Or you have corviknight with mirror armor and suddenly their incineroar will be at -2 if they mega evolve. Not to mention clear amulet, inner focus and clear body all ignore these debuffs to begin with
@@datguyjimmeh It would be very funny. Suddenly, the main counter strategy to Mega Incin would be contrary/defiant Pokemon. How would this affect the meta?🤔
@@thomasfan8889 Suddenly people prepare for the defiant/competitive mons with moves like clear smog or haze, and eventually we'd see a huge increase in the mirror herb item, so that you would want to have your opponent activate their ability so you can boost even further lmao
Great vid
thank you so much!
l meann, even if he gets a mega no-one is forced to use it in its mega-form right, so in that sense incineroar will be strictly better if it gets a mega form even if nobody ends up using it. It's all about potential sets
I don’t think gmax cynderace prevents it from being a starter as the kanto starters and gengar both have gmax and mega forms. And also Rowlet was in the last legends game which was 1.5 gens from gen 7 so that argument doesn’t hold water either.
Plus since Emoleon and Surperior are both very french inspired, it is very likely that those will be the starters for legends z-a instead of Tepig or Chimchar
I want competitive Pokemon to use the speed or power ability that they use in Legends Arceus. Maybe then I might be interested in playing against people online.
I have a tough time imagining a Mega Inceneroar with extra attack, tough claw and stabbed fire blitz while holding to a life orb for one good reason;
I thought the whole deal with mega evolutions is that they need to hold onto a mega stone, how does that work with life orb? lmao
That's probably my bad with a flawed explanation. I mention a "free life orb boost" at 7:40 but i say that referring to the fact that tough claws is a 30% damage boost, which is the same as life orb. So im trying to say 120 base power flare blitz + STAB multiplier + 30% boost from tough claws. Obviously it couldnt also hold a life orb because it would be unable to mega evolve. Hope that clarifies it!
@@datguyjimmeh ah yes that makes a lot more sense, thank you!
Just give Mega Incineroar Huge Power and a speed stat of 160 (just put all 100 points into speed). That would be fair and balanced.
I'm predicting it know it will just get the Lightning Rod ability but for fire types moves and it's best partner is Zacian.
Unironically that would be pretty cool. Offer a whole different kind of support while also getting a unique ability of its own
Well, when you word it like this, maybe Incineroar-M might not be as bad as I thought it was. Though, this may be a hot take.
And, is this kind of content something you'll experiment more
He said in another comment that he’s working on two more videos, and he confirmed at least one of them is similar content to this video
@@moe5177 Yea i love exploring deep dive mechanics, game balance and theory crafting. I also try to be realistic yet open-minded which is why i put so much effort into this video, captures a lot of that i think.
@@moe5177 That's good to hear
I just want all of the starters to get megas
MegaMeganium is a must. Come on cowards give the people what they want!
give mega incineroar wonder guard purely to be as annoying as physically possible to the haters (/j)
As a more serious option i could see arena trap working thematically tbh with the whole fighter aspect
Pizzamaker has a good point, but to branch off from it, a new ghost bug type would also be cool. Honestly, I'm expecting a new normal duo, like a normal ghost. We will probably get normal steel this time as a new duo between Gen 9 and Gen 10.
I hope Charizard Z is a wingless pure fire and basically built like a roided up Charrmeleon with Rock Head for powerful Flare Blitz and Double Edge. Stats could be similar to Mega Swampert.
Wait no this is fire! Would also be a very unique mon too, since the only other fire type with rock head is H-Arcanine. Make Zard Z super slow and bulky, give it glaive rush for the fun of it too since it fits the theme of risky physical moves.
The answer to this would be almost universally "no". Changing it's typing nerfs it because prankster immunity is vital in metas where the genies exist. Giving it a new ability literally removes the main factor that lets it be the glue for so many teams. And even if they keep keep it's typing and ability, 100 extra BST isn't worth losing sustain from berries, spore/power immunity with goggles, or raw bulk from AV (+60 SpDef points is equal to AV). Literally the only upside is potential double intimidate turn 1, but that's not worth giving up an item slot.
I mean thats why i like the idea of it. Offers new avenues of play that incin normally doesnt have that also takes away its supportive options (or at least changes them) Best part is it’s entirely up to you weather or not you want to take advantage of those options. And to get value out of both you need to compromise
mega infernape is gonna have the coolest design ever
He doesn't need it. Know who needs a buff? The Gen 2 starters
Imagine they just make it get an intimidate for sp atk and atk as a mega
Consider it could get a completely new ability a new move on top of all that.
Subscribe to this guy right now holy crap he needs a following
yo thanks! gonna try to start pumping out more "balance notes" style stuff going forward
Lando-T crying in a corner
Holy crap. Mega incinroar? That thing will tear the VCG apart. If it already tore VCG apart back in 2018, imagine what a Mega incinroar would do. It will be a Primal Groudon situation where this thing will be on every team, plus it with an assault vest…that thing could tear, no. Completely shred apart Competive VCG. Mega Incinroar will be a force to be reckoned with…I wonder if Mega Raquaza could return…
Plus if you can transfer Incinroar with the intimate abilty into the game…you got a recipe for destruction
I forgot that Megas couldn’t hold more than an mega stone. Never mind…unless you put bulk up or swords dance on it
@@Heyworld21 i totally agree that a set up version would be scary. but again, the reason its so good now is because it doesnt set up but takes hits and switches in and out for intimidate spam. Take all that away and hes just fat and hits hard. Plus you could still just intimidate it to reduce damage output
As a heel, Incin is happy with all the attention. Let's roast and toast everyone!
Im not even gonna be plauing mainline games and haven't seen the trailers so hearing of a Mega Inc is quite funny
Id be very tempted to do my first playthrough of AZ with just mega incin as long as it’s confirmed 🤣
@@datguyjimmeh if he happens I'm sure hell be busted
i heard "released in 2025" and i was literally/actually laughing out loud/llol or alol and then realizing its not a joke cus gamefreak will genuinely rush the devs to make it faster
The insane irony of this is that 13 hours ago (within the same hour as this comment) pokemon posted on twitter the release date was bumped up to November of 2024. You are a prophet 💀
It is pretty simple why Incin-M is not a good idea.
In the end it would just add more tools. If they are bad, nothing changes and if they are good, we're about to face a menace even fiercer than today's Incineroar.
I assume it very unlikely for such a big addition to be an option that is merely adding another layer of complexity without being discarded due to the lack of viability or breaking the game.
Then again, I would love to be proven wrong on this.
There is definitely truth to this. And i think that, in the vgc scene at least, it would be much more balanced since the introduction of open team sheets. Seeing the mega stone removes a lot of risk factors when facing it down. However if there were no open team sheets it would pose much more of an issue. As for singles, well megas are ridiculous there anyway and can always argue that charizard would still be worse with its 2 (maybe 3 lol) forms. Lots of pros and cons all aorund
@@datguyjimmeh To clarify, I was only talking about VGC. In singles, Incineroar is not very good overall so I would very much welcome a mega that boosts Incineroar‘s singles viability while not being so relevant for doubles.
I hate competitive. Makes me want to make a troll team that explodes in doubles.
Mega Garchomp 2.0
honestly, I'd rather have mega infernape, for no other reason than BDSP cheated us
if it was just between the 3 options, id prefer emboar personally. mega design would look sick
@datguyjimmeh I agree, but ultimately I think Incineroar makes the most sense of the three, we already have a fighting/fire mega in the form of blaziken, so that may skew how they choose as well as those listed in the video
@@thatguy3775 thats a good point. Could always see a change in type too. I could see emboar getting fire/dark or infernape maybe even like fighting/psychic to follow the sun wukong idea. Im down for all of it tbh
@datguyjimmeh honestly yeah, fighting dark emboar would be kinda cool, and fighting psychic for infernape was what I was thinking, but whatever they go for I'm all for it, I think it'll be interesting to see what they do with the Grass and Water starters as well
@@datguyjimmehEmboar doesnt seem fitting. Not because of Emboar itself not fitting, but just because serperior is just such a perfect choice for Kalos (A snake based on french royals in the france region? It'd be a missed opportunity to not use it) which basically eliminates the other unovan starters. For that exact same reason I dont see Infernape being it because Empoleon makes too much sense (Empoleon comes from Emperor and Napoleon)
Megas usually get new abilities, so probably
Nvm i forgot intimidate works before mega evolution. Please gamefreak don't do it
Another year of waiting for Intimidate’s inverse cousin which lowers an opponents Special Attack by 1 stage every switch in. Hell, Defiant and Competitive are the same thing, why couldn’t Intimidate. It’d be especially funny if Mega Incineroar is the only reciever of this, Mega evolving first turn and Parting Shot to bring a pokemon down to -2 on both sides of the offense.
defiant stonks soaring higher than the ozone layer lmao (but fr tho how has this ability not been introduced yet?)
Tough claws mega ....
tbh i don't think so unless It gets Intimidate + another broken ability
and even there, wasting utility for a mega?
i dunno, sounds like a bad idea
Thats why i like it tho, itd be a huge trade off to have the mega option on the team but could be helpful offensively in a pinch. High risk high reward kinda deal
I would much rather regional forms, unless they rework how Megas work (no item requirement, even if it disables the one already held) and even more importantly MAKE THEM REMAIN THROUGH GAMES. Remember Beedrill? Remember how it was finally made good? Yeah, I do too. And we can go f*ck ourselves ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also, Fire/Steel regional Emboar with the stat spread of
HP 110
ATK 123 (+10)
DEF 100 (+35)
SpA 80 (-20)
SpD 85 (+10)
Speed 30 (-35)
and Mirror Armor or Bulletproof as the Ability. Dedicated Trick Room attacker with amazing typing and solid bulk. With Bulletproof, it nullifies Flutter Mane's Shadow Ball (Fairy attacks already don't do jack), while with Mirror Armor, it denies Intimidate, throwing it back at ya.
Mega Incin should get Regenerator
Bro found his neich
I like deep dives into video games in general and pokemon goes DEEP lol. Workin on 2 more vids at the moment, 1 of which is another "game balance" type thing. It'll be interesting i hope!
Double mega incineroar teamsnwill go crazy!! Also I agree with tough claws aa the ability but I hope incineroar doesn't get a mega so mega houndoom can have the 0.0001 chance of being relevant. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I forgot about mega houndoom 😭 poor guy barely did anything back then but would almost certainly never be used if mega incin came around
I honestly don't want a mega incineroar if we get mega evolutions but that's just my opinion
Tbh i dont want megas at all, at least in vgc/competitive formats. They essentially restrict team building options while simultaneously warping the meta around the few that stand out. But megas in Legends sounds super fun
@@datguyjimmeh I honestly agree with you on that didn't realize that there was other people who agreed with me on that
I feel they can just f everyone over and give every mega 2 abilities to choose from.
This wont happen im 100% certain. 1. they'd have to go back and add another ability for each mega. 2. that poses a fundamental issue of further widening the gap between megas and non-megas. And 3. this would pose issues in terms of coding since the way mega evolution works, the ability does not correspond to whatever ability that pokemon had before, they are just assigned the new ability. so idk how they'd be able to make that work.
Mega incinaroar ability if you switch in you win the game 🤣🤣🤣
Don't summon him
They would obviously give it something broken like Slow Start or something....
Im sorry but if we dont get the xy starters to start off with in legends then im not investing cause the xy starters deserve megas more than anyone. Seeing as how they never got megas in there own game... the game that introduced megas... the game that the kalos starters were hyped up in.... and they dont even getc ascess to there own games new mecanic.
....but gen 1 starters did for sum retarted reason. And you cant sit here and tell me they couldnt give gen 1 AND kalos starters megas in the same game.
When in oras that games starters got megas ALONG SIDE the gen 1 ones.
So seeing as how badly shafted the xy starters got in xy ....if they dont get any, ima be verry dissapointed in both the game and its devs
Let’s give mega incinaroar moxie 110 base defence and special defence 95 base speed and a base attack of 140 leave special attack untouched and it’s typing unchanged
Imagine mega incin keeps intimidate
If it does this whole video just explains why it shouldnt have gotten it lol. That's worse case scenario
Or worse, a compleatly new ability that combines intimidate with another ability.
@@datguyjimmeh It'd be funny if it kept it
