Here's a tutorial on how I painted my first plastic Death Korps of Krieg model from the Kill Team: Octarius box set! From primed to painted and battle ready in about 15 minutes. The paint scheme is based on the 143rd Siege Regiment as this matches the rest of my Krieg army so far. If you have any questions or comments about the tutorial, please leave them below. Hope you enjoy the tutorial and it helps you get your models ready to play!

I stumble across your video, followed your very simple guide on my KT and everyone thought someone painted my models for me cheers mate you got my sub.
You have no idea how happy that makes me pal. Really happy you like the videos and thank you for the sub.
I’m looking at many videos for how to best paint Death Korps, your video is the best I’ve seen. And will be using your methods.
Slightly Dry brushing the model to match the base is a great idea and looked amazing.
Thanks for the video
Thanks so much, really glad you like them!!
@@MediocreHobbies, would this method still work using the new skull white as the base coat?
The all-over wash and that final drybrush are great for really pulling it all together. Awesome work!
Thanks pal.
Brilliant stuff Andy! Great use of the contrast paints.
Thanks pal.
Love it! Great stuff Andy

Been a couple years since I've seen you painting and dang this is amazing stuff! Great work dude. "Battle ready" is still better than I could get for parades 😂
Hahah that’s very nice but I doubt it. Just some easy stuff.

Already filmed the next one. And have many nice shots at the end. Thank you for that message it means allot.
@@MediocreHobbies No problem, myself and the girlfriend watched your video last night and both thought it was very good. I was very surprised to be subscriber number 166 given the quality you have! If it helps, your video came up while I was looking for some examples of how to paint the new Krieg in the killteam octarius box set, may be a good chance to get high on the youtube search algorithm but I'm sure you'll make it anyway given the talent on display. Keep it up I look forward to seeing your new content :)
@@seajay4194 I reply do appreciate the kind words and you taking the time to write it. I’m on day 5 of making videos lol. Let’s hope it keeps going strong. Really pleased you liked it.

Thank you so much pal.
Still shopping around for a guide for when me kill team box arrives yours and apathetic fish are faves so far
High praise. Thank you.
Looks great. I feel like I’m still relatively slow at painting, but I’m going give this a technique a go when I get my Kill Team box set. Also gave a subscribe.
Thank you so much. Send me a picture when you do to my Instagram I’d love to see how it turns out.
Nice video dude!
Thank you.
Looks very good.
Thank you so much.
I've had a blast using this method to start up my Krieg army---have a couple of squads, some tanks, and a couple commissars done so far. I'm looking to start some Death Riders soon---any chance you're planning on or could do a brief video on painting them? Would love to see your approach!
I am doing a video soon about the rare kreig commissar so yes I guess I am. So glad you like the video and it’s helping you get your army done.
Great scheme and technique! I found an Octarius box gathering dust recently and I'll be using this.

Love this paint job! Looks like it stepped out of a graphic novel.
Glad you like it pal.
Good stuff!!
Thanks pal.
Love the video very satisfying do paint them the same way
Thanks so much, really appreciate that!
Wonderful! Have you thought about doing a tutorial for the gray color scheme as well?
It would be really useful!
I hadn’t planned on it i for it. But you never know what the future holds.
Subscribed! Just letting you know that your vid is getting shared around in the Warhammer Group here in my country the Philippines so your reach is getting already lol! Great easy to access tutorial!
That’s so cool to hear. Really kind words. Really appreciate it.
I’ll share it withmy friends too in rotterdam
@@mauricetoirkens6455 I really appreciate that. It’s hard a daunting getting channel off the ground. Any and all support is most welcome.
@@MediocreHobbies Cheers everyone! Hope you get to do some Eldar models to down the line
@@jamesrodriguez3667 that I can absolutely do.
I'm binging your videos now after watching the Trench Base video, and I'm enthralled.
I haven't been using a lot of Contrast paints previously, and so I wondered, do you have any general tips for using contrasts? Also, what color did you prime the model with?
Thanks for the awesome guide!
I used a chaos black all over and a zenith of grey seer. I do have some tips for contast and do intend so make a video all about them very soon. But for now the biggest thing is to over load your brush. I find it moves better over the model and you just remove excess before it dries.
Also thank you for the kind words.
Just discovered your channel subscribed! This is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for! Do you have any tips on getting a good zenithal of grey seer on? When I do mine I end up with some super dark spots and I try to fix them and get them too light. Perhaps I just need to practice but any tips are appreciated.
I’m really happy that your excited for the channel. It’s going into over drive this year. As for tips on the zenith my tip would be not to worry about it to much. My zenith is usually a little bit more then a zenith only leaving the dark parts in the very under parts of the model.
Quick question, what primer/undercoat did you use for this tutorial? Thanks, keep up the awesome work!
Sorry I forgot to mention. It’s an all over chaos black and then a zenith of grey seer. Hope that makes sense.
OMG thank you thank you thank! I printed about 80 counts as krieg and I was dreading having to paint them cuz I suck at it. This is perfect. Can the same painting method be applied to larger units like sentinels and chimeras? Or do you have an idea of what paints to use on larger things to get the same look?
I have a different scheme for the tanks it involves an airbrush and not everybody has one so have not posted a video.
Thanks
Glad you liked it.
nice!
Thanks pal
Just pre-ordered my copy of kill team. Your video is a very good to follow and now i am looking forward to paining my models.
Aw thanks. Pal.
Quick question: are you supergluing the Krieg model onto the painted base or pinning it? New to basing, and not sure how best to get the model to adhere to the sandy base.
I am indeed super glueing. No pinning required as they are very light models so no stress on the glue.
Nice channel !!
Thank you.
What would be an alternative to the initial layer of contrast paints? I'm trying to paint my krieg minis in pretty much the same color scheme and I don't have any contrast paints
Probably just the fang washed down and then re-layered.
Could I use Black Templar contrast paint instead of Space Wolves Grey for a more grey/black coat? Or would I be better off just using Nuln Oil?
You can of use black Templar maybe even basilicanum grey.
A little late on this one, but what do you do to have the model mounted on one base and then move it to the finished base? Do you just superglue it and then snap it off later?
That is exactly what I do.
Do you ever go for the enamel grime paints instead of the washes?
I haven’t played around with them yet but they are indeed on my list.
I know its been a year, but any insight into what color primer you used? Would grey seer work?
I always use a full coat of Chaos Black and then a lighter coat of Grey Seer!
For some reason when I've tried to follow this tutorial my contrastbpaints dry incredibly thin, I get almost no colour change. I see in another comment you zenith undercoated in greg see but j used mechanicus standard grey, is that enough to give a significant difference in contrast finish? I'm hoping the layer stage brings them up a lot more. Will send you photos if youd like :)
No The grey your using will be to dark. That’s why the colours are not showing up for you. It needs to be bright. So a grey seer or white. What ever one you chose make sure you stick with it the whole way through the project. Hope this helped.
@@MediocreHobbies That makes sense, I've taken 5 models to the seraphim sepia stage and while the colours are not as vibrant as in your example I'm continuing on to the layering stage. So far 'the fang' is going on the great coat quite well
@@seajay4194 ye the fang is a strong colour it works well. Glad your liking it. Hope you tag me in some after pictures. Would love to see them.
Ah nice a fellow Irish Wargamer. Thanks for the video.
Very welcome.
@@MediocreHobbies Will you be doing the Kommandos?
@@adammoore251 already filmed and edited just need to do the voice over. Should be up Friday night. So the three videos for the killteam box will be up before people get there hands on it. Make it easier for them.
Well done dude. May I ask what colour primer that is? Cheers
Spray black and then zenith with grey seer.
How is your camera mounted? Do you have it on your head?
BUT this is great stuff, achievable by painting mortals like us.
And that all I’m trying to do is help painters like us. Not competition painting just wanting to get models done. It’s mounted on my desk between my arms. I’d have a pretty steady head if it was on there lol
I probably missed it in the video but what color did you use to prime the model?
Full coat of chaos black and a zenith of grey seer.
Can you let us know how and what color you used to undercoat?
Sorry forgot to mention. Chaos black followed by a zenith of grey seer.
I've just watched the start of video several to see if I missed and then went through the comments to find this 😂
I just finished painting my 20 Kriegs for my Killteam and my god I wish I had found this video two months ago. Got my hands on the AP Speed Paints and your technique with them would've saved me hours of frustration. None the less, I think Ill be using your techniques on the giant pile of Shame (Aka my other 4 KT Armies) to get them Table ready. Well done.
Edit: Roughly how long would you estimate it took you to do this model?
Less then 10 minutes brush time I’d say.
@@MediocreHobbies Wow is all I have to say. I spent an average of 4 hours per model until I started batch painting. Definitely switching to this technique now! You've got yourself a sub and time to binge all your other videos for ideas.
What was the basecoat that you used? Grey Seer?
NM saw your answer below
Hahaha cool beans.
Can you tell me your priming process/colors?
Full coat of chaos black and a zenith of grey seer. Hope this helps.
Hey, do you have a tutorial for the Leman Russ in this color scheme?
I do indeed.
@@MediocreHobbies Where is it? Can’t seem to find it. And also do you know what paints it uses and Airbrush colors?
@@martinwright4063 czcams.com/video/Ym1cz7B7b2Y/video.html
@@MediocreHobbies Ah fair, thank you. Do you use the same paints from the Krieg guardsman? Also, I took a look at the video. I can’t tell what brand and paints you used for the airbrush part.
@@MediocreHobbies Hey, got a question? What did you prime the model in before you started the contrast paints? Was it a Zenithal prime?
Zenithal priming?
Yep. Chaos black rattle can. And then grey seer.
can somwonnd make a list of all the colore he use i cant understand the name of the colore
Hey pal. I will get a list of painted for you later Today and post another comment.
