    I love Scotland and England but you are right traveling there can be messy,to say the least. The stories I could tell you. But these things happen and the only thing we can control is our attitude towards it. I lived in England for a year and I drove in London once and those roundabout are no joke. It took me about an hour to get somewhere that was twenty minutes away. Another time I accidentally got on the motorway my friends who lived in England said oh no,I was like what’s the big deal I will get off at the next exit (little did I know it wasn’t like LA where I could get off in a quarter of a mile). But looking back now I was making memories and it makes me laugh and smile now.

      100% you are so right. We would crack up when the GPS told us to turn "half left." We were like what does that meeeean?! 😆We also could not believe that the motorways had no exits, we warned the kids on this trip because they are so used to being able to stop whenever on US road trips. Getting through the bumps along the way is ultimately very empowering because you realize you did it and you can do it again. 🥰

    Have you been to Wells Cathedral, England's smallest city, it is stunning, also St David's in Wales is amazing ma

      We've done two trips to Wales before we had our channel, one was in the Snowdonia area and Conwy and then another in the Brecon Beacons area, with the Four Waterfalls trail. We cannot wait to take the kids to Wales! But we think Scotland may be next with them to do some Harry Potter inspired things.

    Fun fact:
    Around the castle walls there are numerous mounds, during the black death so many people were dying in Lincoln that they were running out of space, so they started to bury boddies on top of each other causing the mounds to this day. However when they dug bodies up to add yet more boddies, they discovered that there were scratch marks on some of the coffins (which were very basic caskets), it turned out many were in a coma and not dead.
    They didnt understand about coma's then, but they sure knew that some had been burried alive, so they came up with the idea of channeling a thin knotted rope from the coffin to the surface with a bell attached so if anyone woke up, they could pull the rope and a bell would ring to alert people they were still alive. This is where the saying "a dead ringer" came from.

      Nooooo way! We did see this at the castle and it blew us away: In 2013 archaeologists made an exciting and rare discovery in the grounds of Lincoln Castle. Whilst excavating the foundations for the new lift to the Medieval Wall Walk, they found an ancient church 3m below ground. Within the building’s remains lay the skeletons of six adults and three children. The most important find, however, was a seventh adult skeleton in a stone sarcophagus. Discovered in the wall of the excavation trench, the sarcophagus had lain undisturbed for over 1,000 years.

    How long did you live in England? Did you meet each other in college?

    • @DeanTeamAdventures
      @DeanTeamAdventures  Před 5 měsíci +3

      We met in college at Coastal Carolina University (Scott is from KY, Krystin is from OH). Scott studied abroad in Exeter for a year, which prompted Krystin's first trip abroad. We got engaged on a backpacking trip through Europe (on the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland). Then we got our master's degrees together at the University of Lincoln, we lived there for around 18 months. We've been back a few times since then to visit friends, but this was the kids' first time abroad so that was really exciting. If they study in Lincoln someday we would be so happy! 😍
