- We've received a lot of suggestions to visit Lincoln and we are so glad it was recommended because it is a lovely city! We're spending 2 days exploring places like Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle along with lots of other stops in the city. We had an amazing time seeing things like the Magna Carta, taking a boat tour of one of the oldest canals in the UK, and having great meals at places like Brown's Pie Shop. It's one of our favorite places we've visited and we think you need to visit Lincoln too!
We'd definitely love to see more of Lincolnshire and the surrounding areas. Do you have any must visit spots for next time? Also, what cathedrals are in your top 5 list? (it's very important research for Cara lol).

That should get you started!
I live in a small town outside Lincoln and love the whole area. The Lincolnshire Wolds are worth a visit they are a series of rolling chalk hills with glorious views, you can see Lincoln cathedral from the tops. There is a breed of interesting sheep, a deer herd and an old church on one section too.
The Lincolnshire coast and the Wolds
Skegness aka Skegvegas, is the most popular seaside resort around here and has many smaller coastal villages a few miles either way: ingoldmells, chapel st leonards, Sutton on sea, mabelthorpe, and not far from Skegness (ie in Friskney) is the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park.
Belton House is a popular stately home and country park. You may also be interested to know that Lincoln is the birthplace of the tank, popular for its ww2 Lancaster plane (one of only two in the world that still flies), and is the home of the Red Arrows aircraft display team
Chichester cathedral is a good one, and the city itself is lovely. Nearby you have two open air museums: Singleton and Amberley. On the south coast, half way between Portsmouth and Brighton
My daughter went to Lincoln University and the size of the city means you have everything you need and more in a small area. Her graduation was incredible, with the reception in the Castle grounds and the awards in the Cathedral, so proud and great day. Lincoln and Lincolnshire have a lot to offer.
Hello both of you. My daughter was just watching this in the front room and yelled at me to come and watch. My friend Mal and I were your Castle Guides on the morning of your visit. So pleased you enjoyed your tour and thank you for remembering us. Any questions, let me know. Hope to see you again soon and safe travels.
I went to university in Lincoln and once heard it referred to as a 'poor man's York' - I always thought this was rather sad as I have nothing but good memories of the place. Granted that was over a decade ago now and it appears a lot has changed, but thanks for bringing it all back for me! I really must make the trip, as it looks like the city has had a pretty substantial revamp; it looks great!
such a shame america doesn't teach you about the magna carta. because its apart of your history as well. but yeah lincoln is a lovely place to visit.
I really enjoyed my time in Lincoln when I was based at RAF Scampton back in the late 1970's. A beautiful city and friendly people. I got posted to the West Midlands for my final stage of my RAF service.
Thank you for your service~ From 🇺🇸
Lincoln is a beautiful city and seems to be unfamiliar to many international tourists, unlike York and Chester. Thank you for visiting and raising its profile. If you're into military aircraft, you'll see lots of them! Not for nothing is the county known as "RAF Lincolnshire". Just outside Lincoln is the International Bomber Command Centre which is a memorial to all the bomber aircrew who flew in World War II. Many, many bombers were based in Lincolnshire. A few miles away at RAF Coningsby (which is an active military airfield) is the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with its working Spitfires, Hurricanes and one of only two airworthy Lancaster bombers in the whole world.
There's also Tattershall Castle really close to Coningsby which if you time it right can give great views of the BBMF doing practice flights, and if you like antiques theres Horncastle and Hemswell close by too.
the design for the Tank also took place in the White Hart Hotel , Lincoln
There is also the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby. They have taxi runs by a Lancaster and Mosquito aircraft, though not every day or through winter. Check their website for details. Thanks for the m mention of IBCC- I am a tour guide there, so biased but we'll worth a visit.
Hiring a narrowboat for a few days before taking the plunge for a longer trip is worthwhile. It's almost certain your dog will thoroughly enjoy long walks along the towpath and further afield.
I'm So happy when Visitors don't just stay in London. Our Great Country has So Much More to Offer!👏❤
There were many RAF Bomber Command bases in Lincolnshire in WW2 and the Cathedral was a rally point to form up on the tip out and a welcome sight for returning shot up Lancaster crews as it stands high and very visible in the landscape.
My grandfather worked at the air base inMablethorpe during WWII
I'm just in the process of buying a narrowboat, and have spent a couple of months on a narrowboat before. A few things to note - the main one being that this is a very very leisurely way of life. You move at walking pace, and locks will add into your time, its also fairly physical - you have to operate locks and climb up and down ladders etc, so all in all, people generally do about 10-15 miles a day, so you don't get to see a lot of different places, and often you won't be moored up in a town at night, but if you enjoy travelling slowly and peacefully through countryside it's perfect.
It sounds perfect.
Despite living in Lincolnshire all my life, I have only stayed in Lincoln once, the Cathedral is stunning and well worth a visit.
Plum Bread is lovely and Haslet is another Lincolnshire food you could try.
I would recommend you visit Stamford, a Georgian stone town with lots of history and it has a Cosy Club too.
Stamford in South Lincolnshire…”the finest stone town in England”
I would certainly recommend a narrow boat holiday. I’ve don3 it several times. It’s great fun and it’s a great mix of relaxing travelling with energetic periods going through locks. If you do it in the West Midlands you will find many places where you can tie up next to a foodie pub.
The name Lincoln should be branded into every American's mind, from your most famous President to your most famous car, it is everywhere in the USA!! Ironic no?? Hoping to catch your most recent video asap, loving your visits across the UK, keep up the good work!!
I know Lincoln fairly well as my husband’s family still lives there. It was such an important city at one time and has incredible history. I think the historic old centre is beautiful but it loses some of that beauty as you move away from the centre which is a shame. Glad you enjoyed your stay ☺️💚🧡
If you don’t fancy having to deal with locks on the canal system, a good alternative is the Norfolk Broads. It’s a system of rivers in the east of England. The boats you can hire there aren’t narrowboats, so easier to handle, and there’s a huge variety of styles of boats.
My husband and I didn’t visit The Broads until 2015 and fell in love with it so much that we have bought a share in a boat. Actually, we have an American couple who own a share and travel over every year to spend time on The Broads.
I've had 2 holidays on the broads so far. Loved every minute of it.
Great video almost 25 years since we took the kids t Lincoln with friends.
My brother goes on canal holiday every year with his wife. They visit art galleries and .country houses along the way and even take their golf clubs with them. They go on circular trips. Do your planning and choose a route without too many locks. There are often great pubs along the canal.
Lots of towns and cities are losing their high streets to shopping centres (and the internet), but Lincoln has somehow lost its shopping centre, St Marks, and the centre is still thriving (apart from BHS and Debenhams closing).
I live in the UK and haven't explored it like you both have..🤣 Love that you guys are living your best life! ❤
Lincoln is a wonderful place , so much history, walkable , friendly and some very nice restaurants.
In Coningsby you have the Battle of Britain memorial flight and Museum or East Kirkby aviation heritage centre. In Horncastle is Myers bakery, they supplied sone plum bread to the queen. You must also try sone Lincolnshire Sausages, there is an award winning butchers in Bardney. If you fancied travelling plus
Another fantastic video, thank you!❤
Nice of you to come to my home town, Lincoln. Everybody goes to York, but Lincoln is lovely too.
The Cathedral was indeed the tallest building in the World for around 250 years, having taken the title from the Great Pyramid of Giza. If the spire had not fallen, it would have kept the title until 1884.
Lincolnshire is known for its Plum Bread and Lincolnshire Sausages. It's also known as bomber county because of all the RAF bases.
Loved the video. I love Lincoln. The cathedral is my favourite in England (so far). DURHAM cathedral is also spectacular, one of the most important Romanesque/Norman buildings in Europe. You must go there! I think you guys have seen more of this country now than most British people! ps. go to Holkham beach and Holkham Hall in Norfolk - absolutely phenomenal.
I share 2 of these in my top 3 - Durham and Lincoln. But right at the top I would put Ely, specifically for the Octagon, an architectural marvel.
Very excited to watch this video, we want to check out the Cathedral ourselves, it looks so beautiful! ❤
I so look forwards to your videos. Really interesting and fun❤ cool t-shirts as well x
I'm from Lincolnshire and am SOOOO happy that you made it to Lincoln...love that you found the Lincoln Imp. Your video had me in tears...I miss my home county so much. Glad you enjoyed it.
Plenty of options if you want to try a narrowboat holiday.
Have a look at some of our vlogs to give yourself an idea of the lifestyle.
This is my home city! I have watched you both for ages so it was very strange seeing you in Lincoln! I wish I had known I would’ve said hi.
My home city- so glad you've had a look around :)
Glad you enjoyed Lincoln, one of my favourite cities and my home for a few years while at uni.
Thank you it's been a good while since I was last in Lincoln but you awakened facts that I recalled hearing about back then which was good to remember. I think I would have loved that cheese pie too! 😃
Hello, Thank You buddy another fantastic video.
Great to see you guys enjoying Lincoln. It’s my adopted home city, lived here for 13 years now. It’s a lovely place and I’m glad you enjoyed it! 😊
I'm glad you have finally got around to touring my home county.
A county of mostly small towns and villages scattered amongst the vast expanses of farmland and rolling green countryside.
A canal holiday is a slow motion pub crawl... what's not to like!
I’m from Lincoln, born and raised here.
You’ve told me two things I didn’t know in this video haha.
Well researched video, nice to see people from over seas enjoying our beautiful city and painting it in a positive light.
👍
Glad you seem to have enjoyed Lincoln. I've only ever been there a couple of times and one of the things that amazed me is how steep that hill is. Lincolnshire is well known to be flat as a pancake so to suddenly come across that was a real surprise.
I’m so glad you went to Brown’s Pie Shop 😊
My parents used to own a narrow/ canal boat, and it was a lovely option for a local vacation. We used to take it on the Grand Union Canal, which had some lovely countryside and its a very peaceful way to travel, even with the manual work involved with the Locks! I would generally recommend a long weekend (3 maybe 4 days) to get a good enough experience for first times 😊
Thanks for the tour, lived here all of my life and it's always interesting to see other peoples perspective. 👍
I love your films, I love the way you use the English words and we went to York on your suggestion. Might check out Lincoln now ❤
Lived in Lincoln since the day i was born and lived very close to the cathedral, castle, ellis mill, and the westgate water tower,so this was interesting to watch..and not been in the big church for many yrs even though i can see its towers from one of my windows, glad you enjoyed Lincoln.
Great review! We loved the town when we were there. 🖖👍👍
There's a lot of narrow boats which are B&B's and Airbnb's in the UK. So maybe that could be your next quirky place to stay. Great tour guys. Lincoln looks lovely.
I discovered last weekend that St Alban’s cathedral is dog friendly too. I didn’t have our dogs with me as I was singing in a choir that was covering the Saturday and Sunday services as the choir boys and girls are on their summer holiday. I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to sing in such special places. Years ago we also did a weekend of services at Lincoln Cathedral. I ended up so exhausted though, as our B&B and most of the restaurants we had lunch at were at the bottom or at least part way down Steep Hill. It’s not called Steep Hill for nothing! Lol.
I was born and grew up in Lincoln, sometimes I think i take the cathedral and castle for granted. Certainly not been in the cathedral for about 20 years. I live near London now and always enjoy going back to Lincoln as I find it very quiet and peaceful, even around the city centre. Nice video, enjoyed watching - keep up the good work!
Really enjoyed this video. I moved here to Lincoln almost nine years ago and love it. Just caught a glimpse of my house as you sailed down the canal on the Brayford Belle.
A fantastic video guys of my home town. I didn't realise how beautiful Lincoln actually is. Brown's Pie Shop is one of my favourite restaurants ever. Top work guys x Barrie
Go to Robin hoods bay. North Yorkshire.
Hi there both, when you eventually go home to the USA please destroy the myth that our food is bland and rubbish. This myth started during WW2 when American servicemen were stationed here and the food was rationed and it was bland, there’s no rationing now and we have great cuisine as you are both finding out.
All the food that they have featured looked amazing.I do hope that does help shatter the. Myth.❤
Agree. We have great cuisine. There's a McDonalds on every corner.
Now it's American food that is diabolical .
@@TranscendentalDentistNobody is putting a gun to your head to walk into these nasty places.
Sadly, the food they ate that day was all beige 😂
Another nice video.
I lived on a narrowboat for nearly 20 years until about a year ago. It was a fabulous life for Molly, my dog, and I. I also got to work on a marina for 15 years, so I pretty well know all there is to know. I’ve toured the country from London to Lancaster a couple of times.
I'm Lincoln born and bred and I'm so pleased you enjoyed your trip😀
Narrowboat life is amazing had a 45 foot narrowboat on the south Oxford canal such a lovely slow pace of life. You won’t regret it there are loads of places to hire from too
The film was indeed shot there as they could not gain access to Westminster abbey, it’s the same designer of both cathedrals. Look on the walls in the pubs and you will see photos of Tom hanks around town while filming.
Great video, we did the rooftop tour of the cathedral a few years ago, well worth doing
Cool video, and in one of my fave places to visit! That hill is a killer though!
Thank you both for this charming and wonderful video! Just turned 66 - state pension age in the UK - and planning to buy a place somewhere in the UK. I was already leaning towards Lincoln - property SO much less expensive than in the South-East - and you've persuaded me to defintely move there!
Six of us girls have hired a narrow boat and wide beam and we had the best time ever I would highly recommend it... I would definitely live on one for sure.. Glad you are enjoying yourselves xxx 😘🇬🇧
What a interesting and qauint historical town. I have never even heard of this town, thanks for sharing this gem!
I want some cheese pie🥧 your videos always leave me hungry!❤
City
Hi, I am an infrequent youtube viewer . but I'm so delighted that your adorable doggy has been able to join you , that is very happy news for sure , as I know you missed her previously :)
So glad you got to see my home town... :) x
After Lincoln in Lincolnshire, there are seaside towns that are really good. Mablethorpe, chapel St leonard's, ingoldmels, and Skegness.
Just discovered you two......making me chuckle so much....enjoy our country...😂
Glad you enjoyed our fabulous city
Thanks for another great Vlog - we were last in Lincoln in 1977 and you have convinced us that we need to go back! Nice to see you exploring some of eastern England. Talking of the the east, is East Anglia on your list, often referred to as the 'hidden gem of England'? It has some lovely seaside towns such as Cromer, Cley, Blakeney and Southwold plus hundreds of beautiful medieval churches and of course the City of Norwich with its beautiful Cathedral. If you fancy trying out cruising, rent a boat in Wroxham and drift around the Norfolk Broads for a day stopping off at various waterside pubs - a delightful unique experience!
I would put Wells in the top 5 of my favourite cathedral. Quite small but an architectural gem.
Yeah i live in Suffolk. Its got some great places.
Great video, love seeing other ppl enjoying the quaint beauty of Lincoln.
I spent 2 weeks on a canal holiday. I would say it's a great way of leisurely making your way around England. However, make sure you know how to operate locks (this is a must).
Also, negotiating narrower, and busier, stretches of canal can be a challenge at times; but i would seriously recommend it.
One of my favourite places, love Lincoln
Such a shame you couldn’t go at the weekend as there’s a lovely free walk called Lincoln free walking tour will show u all Lincoln and tell u about the history too so when u next visit the cat cafe I encourage you to go on this walking tour great vlog showing the best of England keep up the amazing videos x
Yes you are correct, if you want to see rural uk then the canals are the best way.
Very very relaxing, also easy to drive or navigate. Dog friendly mostly. We have been on holidays on canals for years. They never disappoint, also the weather doesn’t spoil them, except maybe high winds. So I highly recommend them, you will not be disappointed.
I've lived in Lincoln since 2000, it's such a lovely city and I'm glad that you enjoyed it. :)
That was a great video and very interesting.i live in Lincoln city.the view from my bed room window is the cathedral.i live right next to the Brayford.i love seeing other people’s perspective on our city 👍 great video 👌
,, you might love the 3 seasons of Timothy Spall's tvshow he did with his wife Shane , called at Sea,, in which they took their Dutch barge,, the princess Matilda in and around UK waters,, similarly Prunella Scales and husband Timothy West presented 35 episodes of their show ,, Great Canal Journeys where they narrow boated, not only all across the UK but many other countries too ,, and Cornish Chef Rick Stein used a barge to show us local cuisine along the Canal du Midi for his show French Odyssey 🎉
,, Both on paper and on,line the invaluable Ordnance Survey produce detailed maps showing not only precise UK countryside and it's heritage terrain , pubs and walks,, but they also have an excellent canal waterway range you might b interested in for another time ✨😏🏞️🍺🍺🥮
Lincoln is awesome, been there many times, its just a lovely city.
Loved this video, I am from Lincolnshire and I love all the medieval architecture that has been preserved in Lincoln, not only the beautiful cathedral and adjacent castle, but up and around steep hill are many smaller preserved medieval buildings which in a bigger city may not have survived. Jews House and Aaron’s House are particularly interesting as they were houses owned by medieval Lincoln’s Jewish population, which is rare thing to see preserved. Aaron of Lincoln was one of the richest men in England during his time, the Church had to borrow money from him to build the cathedral, and other religious buildings such as monasteries, they owed him massive debts and he amassed a great personal wealth. As he was Jewish, his fortune was inherited by the king after he died. It’s so interesting to walk past his house on steep hill and know it belonged to the richest man in England.
Love this video.
The Cathedral may be the fourth largest by size but it is the best. (I may be a little biased as i’ve lived in or very close to Lincoln for all of my 66 years). Looks like you thoroughly enjoyed your visit and portrayed our beautiful city very professionally. Your camera work is excellent.
awww my hometown.... brilliant to see it
Thanks for doing this one, my family still live in Lincoln, I grew up there but now Live in South Australia and have for the last 20 years
So nice to see you visit "Home" .😁
I live in Lincoln, and I have a Narrowboat, thanks for the shine
Hey, you’re where I live! Cool. I recommend the Norfolk broads if you want a narrow boat experience for a week or so.
I have often thought of doing a day trip to Lincoln from my home in West Yorkshire. Your video has just closed the deal for me. Next days off - I'm there!
I love the fact that you show me so many places I haven’t been to. I live in London hardly ever leave any places I’ve been to Bournemouth Winchester, Guildford London, London, London😂
The Paschal vigil on Easter Saturday is spectacular. I have been twice. It starts at 8pm and is conducted by candlelight in its first part. It is like time traveling.
I live only 15 mins away from Lincoln (in fact, I’ll be at the Brayford later when I take my daughter and her friend to the cinema there). I love the Bailgate area and steep hill. Great for exploring. We’ve only lived here 7 years and they have developed the Cornhill area in that time. It’s so much nicer now than before! Cosy club is a good chain as chains go. Their Moroccan lamb is delicious.
Narrowboats - my dad has a cruiser these days but used to own a wide bean boat, which is a big version of a narrow boat. His is on the Avon-Sharpness canal in Gloucestershire and he goes on the River Severn from there. You can easily book a narrow boat holiday in various areas of the country.
Btw you can get plum bread from the co-op in Lincolnshire or Curtis’s bakery chain.
I hope you had a pint Batemans - excellent Lincolnshire beer!
Had this appear in my recommendations. I'm from Lincoln and worked at the castle for a few years and my sister did a bit at the cathedral.
Not a narrow boat, but my brother has a boat moored on the pool. He quite enjoys the boat with his for orly 2 dogs (one died of old age)
The Norfolk Broads and Norwich are a must if you're on that side of the country.
Port cullis 4 inch squar posts and cross bracing with iron banding over joints. So yes indeedy it was heavy
I've worked in Lincoln....yep, a nice place 🙌
My local city...love it
When you were standing on the water side by the sculpture arch (Waterside South) you were not standing next to a canal, as you described it, it is the river Witham. It flows from there on to Boston.
Stamford, including Burghley House and grounds is definitely worth a visit while you’re in our country. I always enjoy your channel.
Indeed Stamford is one of the best preserved stone towns in England, its like stepping into a time machine.
In the movie 'The King', Timothee Chalamet (as Henry V) is corwned king in Lincoln Cathedral - again standing in for Westminster Abbey. They also did some exterior shooting in Lincoln too
Narrow boats can be tricky and normally involve locks. Best option would be the Norfolk Broads. More space and very pretty places to tie up.
Only problem with the broads is some areas are quite tidal, especially the closer to Great Yarmouth you get.
Na, the broads are a bit dull.
you guys are amazing
At 4 miles per hour on a narrowboat you would take over a year to traverse the 2,000+ miles of navigable waterways in England and Wales alone! But it is a lovely way to see A BIT of the country from the water and I would highly recommend you sample at least a week hiring a narrowboat and enjoy the wildlife and the peaceful pace of life! Your dog would probably lovevit too ❤
I grew up in Lincoln. Just a beautiful city. ❤
Just love your content is fun and refreshing 😊 so happy your enjoying the uk still I would love too do the same but small towns in the US xx
Thanks ✌ xx
