VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 17. 11. 2022
- We continue visiting fun and exciting locations. This time we made it to Lincoln, UK and we were pleasantly surprised by the city. I now consider Lincoln to be one of England's Best Kept Secrets. The City centre had a great vibe...
We actually spent two weekends in Lincoln because we enjoyed to vibe in the city so much.

My daughter is a American and going to the college in Lincoln she just finished her first year She loves it there From Her apartment window she can see the cathedral
Lincoln is my home town! Seeing this reaction video really makes me realise how much i take the City and cathedral for granted. You're right on how quiet it is. I always enjoy the peace and tranquility of Lincoln when i do go back, as i live near London these days. Great video, keep up the good work and well done for getting to the top of steep hill!
My home town too and the video opens right where a chunk of my family history is based back in the 1850's. I have only watched a few seconds but I can almost guarantee there will be dozens of buildings my family lived in or ran their businesses from right back from the 1850's to the present day.
This is some of the most wholesome content on the Internet.
đđđ
Totally agree. As a Christian I really enjoy this channel.
â@@MacandBlair sir I just found out that I was born in Lincolnshire I was moved to the US. Do u see any hospitals there? I am trying to find out where I was born. Is Lincoln Lincolnshire
â@@MacandBlair I traveled to Turkey and it looks just like Italy
What a lovely family.
I live 25 miles away and you can see the cathedral from various vantage points round here . In the war, the planes used it as a landmark to get home. There were so many air bases in Lincolnshire. And we have the Red Arrows. đŹđ§đ
Poor man's Norwich đ
@@ajlook5457 served at Coningsby so erm, . . . No! đ€Łđ€Ł
@@lpgibbo7463 l've lived in both cities, and Lincoln is very nice, but Norwich Is bigger and better, with a lot more to do, its a university city, the most complete medieval city in the country. Better city centre with fantastic shops, unbelievable market (biggest 7 day market in the country), the broads only 5 miles away, bigger & better football team, and finally voted 2nd to Edinburgh as the best city to live
@@ajlook5457 Edinburgh rocks, served all over Jockland before Lincolnshire. I don't pay attention to those 'best place for this or that' polls, mostly rigged by newspapers for the people who own said newspapers to make a killing on property. đ€
Can't knock you on the Broads even though I was a kid last time they still stick in my head, will definitely have to pop back đ
I take it that you are ex RAF then. If you do visit Norfolk again you lust also visit the North Norfolk coast at Holkham beach. But wait until summer because its bloody cold at the moment. Thanks for your service by the way
Once, when I was still recovering from a back injury and struggling with walking anywhere other than flat places, I decided Lincoln would be an ideal place for a long-weekend break, located as it is in flat, fenland country.
How wrong I was!
Yeah Steep hill isn't for you lol actually it's not for anyone with lungs lol
Should have gone to bostonia in the south of the county
Steep hill comes to mind lol
Far better education than the iPhone or iPod could ever provide
So glad you enjoyed Lincoln! I studied here from 2013 to 2016, volunteered at the cathedral, and even slept just outside the cathedral for charity (very cold, but great fun!)
Other things you can check out if you return are obviously the rest of the cathedral (you can take tours inside the roof and go outside onto the roof of the tallest of the towers) as well as the mediavel and wren libraries inside (the wren library designed by Sir Christopher Wren), the castle with the magna carta (one of only four remaining copies and the only one still at home in the city it was originally sent to) and it's prison, the Ellis mill windmill, and the museum of lincolnshire life which tells the story of Lincolnshire people and how Lincoln invented the tank!
Also if you fancy it next time, try a traditional Lincolnshire ploughmans lunch!
I'm from Lincoln so it was really interesting to see your response to it, and nice to see someone appreciating things about it I take for granted. I would definitely recommend taking the Cathedral tour if you come back, it's well worth it!
I grew up in Birchy. Love Lincoln and always will.
@@goodyeoman4534 I grew up on the Tower, then moved to the Gillies, then the Ermine (the perfect three?), now I'm out in Ancaster.
Always back in Lincoln as all my mates and family are there. I will never leave the shire. All the best.
@@trevorpaz3441 You too, mate. I'm close by. Small world.
Lincoln is a beautiful city!! I live just down the roasld in saxilby, but im a postie so always in lincoln.
You guys are such great parents your kids are very lucky to have a mother and father like you both you give your children great experiences they will remember for the rest of their lives đđ
Iâm so glad you enjoyed your visit to our city, itâs good to see it through a visitorâs eyes. Peace be with you all đ
I love this city so much
I love this video! I was the girl singing when you walked by- thank you for the compliment đđ
Ahhhh, so cool to see someone enjoying our city! There's so much great history here! I'm glad you enjoy it :)
And also, the architecture of the cathedral was one of my favourite things to learn about growing up here. So cool.
Thanks
My grandfather used to own a Cafe and burger joint i Lincoln indoor market
Lincolnâs in my blood eventhough
Iâm a Norfolk boy đ
Loved seeing the city I have lived in for my whole life from a different perspective! I think I take it for granted, especially the Cathedral, since it's always been there. It's a great place for families to come and I echo what others have said, it's definitely worth coming to experience the Christmas market when it's on. One of the oldest markets in Europe and lots for you to do.
There's a name I haven't seen for a few years. We used to work together a few moons ago, at 694. Hope you're keeping well.
(This account is obviously not my real name)
Brings back memories, lived there for four years at university. The town itself at the bottom of the hill isn't really anything too special, save for the older buildings by the canal, but it's lovely once you start going up.
Glad you liked it, mate. I studied in Portsmouth and absolutely loved it.
Lincoln castle has one of the remaining original copies of the Magna Carta, dating from 1215
Salisbury has another
Iâm an American with roots traced back to Lincoln. Visiting Lincoln is definitely on my bucket list.
Do it!! Its my home town and i love it!! One of the most beautiful cities in the uk in my opinion, and a hidden gem. Be sure to go off the beaten track and visit the villages on the outskirts of lincoln as they are very beautiful and steeped in culture and history. The house i live in is over 200yrs old, the village is full of houses like mine. All the best on your bucket list đ
The villages are definitely worth a walk around... there are so many little villages dotted around the outskirts of the city!
Glad you loved our city, I moved to a pretty village just south of here 16 years ago and the quality of life here is second to none. Some of the food in the old country pubs in the surrounding villages (children always welcome) are worth a try also.
Just want to say, what a lovely familiy you have. Lucky man!
Thank you
American ex-pat as well. I live not too far from Lincoln and it is my favourite place to spend a day! The Christmas Market at Lincoln is worth a visit!
I love Lincoln it has a great vibe đđđŹđ§
Thankyou for visiting my home city! Pleased you enjoyed this hidden gem and hope you come back soon đ
Lived in Lincoln my whole life, wouldn't wanna live anywhere else. Glad you and your family enjoyed our city, I know your face now so if I see you on your travels you've earned yourself a handshake my friend. Stay safe and be lucky... Sam...âĄ
Thanks Sam
Lincoln really is steeped in history. Steep hill and the bailgate are very nice.
I trained as a nurse in Lincoln in the mid 1960âs Love, love love the city. Many happy memories, especially The Adam and Eve pub. So many friends and great memories.
haha yes that familiar phrase 'are we going to A&E after work or the DW' good memories
I used to live there for years, brought back so many memories. Thank you for this video.
My wife and I love Lincoln, we stay over once or twice every year and usually eat at Thailand no.1 (near bailgate and the cathedral), highly recommended.
Thank you so much for visiting and making a video of our lovely city! I've lived in Lincolnshire for over 9 years now and have established myself in a local search and rescue group that covers the whole of Lincolnshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire. Lincoln and Lincolnshire as a whole have so many beautiful locations. So grateful that you came :)
Oh, I laughed when you said '...Americans, we're loud!' đ Well, at least you have self-awareness, will be much appreciated I'm sure. Nice video đ
I absolutely love Lincoln, old yet timeless and beauty wherever you look, its been a few years since I was there, I live just outside of Doncaster and between Doncaster and Lincoln there are and were many long airfields especially for aircraft coming back from Germany, these airfields were here because its mostly flat and wide open, it was the perfect place for wounded aircraft to come back to when missing critical parts such as rudders and undercarriage, they could land with relative safety, I know that Doncaster alone had at least 6 airfields where stricken craft could land as best they could, thankfully this isn't something that is particularly needed now.
You always make such wonderful videos and it's so good to see you all together as a family, it shows that children are welcome and that you can see places of beauty and interest with children, your children are always so well behaved too, take care :)
I hope you enjoyed lincoln brother!! Wish I'd been in town when you were here as it would have been cool to meet you. Lincolns my home town and i love it. Stay positive and keep smiling dude.
LOVE that you gave thanks for your food x
You have such a lovely tight knit family and I love how you give thanks before your meals.
I was very fortunate about 15 years ago to have the chance to sing in Lincoln Cathedral. When the choir boys and girls are on their school holiday breaks most cathedrals invite in âguest choirsâ to sing during their weekend services. I was a member of one of those choirs. We sang at the Saturday evensong, Sunday Mattins, Sunday Holy Communion and Sunday Evensong. That was a lot of singing and in between the services we walked up and down Steep Hill. I donât think Iâve ever felt as tired as I did at the end of that weekend. Totally worth it though. Wonderful memories!
We sang at a lot of other Cathedrals too. My favourite was Worcester. They were extra friendly and welcoming.
Such wonderful memories... thanks for sharing.
Great vid fella ... might give Lincoln another visit. Lived near there in the military in the 70's ..forgot how nice it is! Just remembered I played football at Sincil bank football stadium in Lincoln too.
Lincoln is my home town so thank you for showing Lincoln in a positive light â€
I lived on the RAF Camp just outside Lincoln in the 1960s and regularly caught the bus into the city. So glad you enjoyed your visit. â€
We visit a lot from Sheffield we love Lincoln â€
Lincoln â€
They've obviously kept up the Wharfeside shopping centre in good condition. I was born and grew up in Lincoln. It was built over thirty years ago.
Been following your channel a while, so it was a nice surprise to see a video on where I live đ Glad you enjoyed Lincoln. Underrated for sure.
brilliant video tour of Lincoln great commentary and a grest family đ
Thanks
As a local I've always thought Lincoln was crap, so it's interesting to see people visiting
When your home city randomly appears on your CZcams sojestions
So many visitors to England just visit London - and maybe some other main hotpots like Bath, York, Stratford-upon-Avon. But a lot of the old provincial cathedral cities which are more off of the main tourist route are also very much worth seeing. Lincoln, for sure; but we could also mention Truro, Exeter, Winchester, Salisbury, Worcester, Canterbury...the list goes on...
Great list thanks...
I love watching such a detailed and warm video on the city i've lived my entire life. If you are to come again, which i hope you do, i would recommend a visit to The Lawns, a park with a wonderful tapas bar and café. Along the same road there is also an underrated museum called "The Museum of Lincolnshire Life" with free entry
Thank you! Will do!
So the bridge over the river witham on the high street also known as the glory hole is the oldest bridge in the country with a building on top of it
Our cathedral once had spires, making it the tallest building for 200 years..
Glad you enjoyed your stay, I've lived in Lincoln my whole life and you often take a lot of it for granted when you see it every day, so it's nice to see it through new eyes
Lincoln Xmas market 1-4 December this year ⊠free to get in.
So pleased you enjoyed my home city, I love living here and am always pleased to see visitors taking I the sights.
So glad you found Steep Hill!
In Lincoln, it's a 'right of passage'!! đČ
It sure is!
Can hear the music from me busking in the background lol
By gum lad, I did enjoy accompanying you and the family around Lincoln. It's funny, but visitors seem to know what is important to see, do and visit. Thanks pal.
Glad you enjoyed it
My home town well represented thankyou đ
Lincoln has a pretty buzzing university as well.
Enjoyed your trip round Lincoln. Yes it is a beautiful City. That's my home but you kept calling the river Witham a canal. Still I can forgive you that when I feel the joy coming from you.
Pity you didn't find the Regimental museum behind the castle. Your children would have loved it. Great place to explore and Free
Indeed, Lincoln is one of the hidden gems of England. Whenever I visit the UK, and whilst studying there many years ago, I learned that many smaller cathedral cities had more to offer visitors over less time than bigger, more popular centres, better known to tourists. I think you and your children would enjoy Wells, England's smallest city. Next, there's Ely (these two both boast schools founded over 1100 yrs ago). Hereford and Chester, Truro and Bangor (with a cathedral founded in the 6th century), and of course Winchester (England's capital until the 11th century) and Salisbury (the inspiration for Ken Follett's historical novels), each offer unique attraction. Enjoy them, and great cities further north, such as Sterling, Perth, Inverness, and if you can spare the travel time, the unique culture and atmosphere of Lerwick. You are enabling life-long memories for your children, for which thanks and blessings.
Thanks for the great suggestions. đđŸ
You have missed York and Durham.
@@heatherboardman7004 The family did go to York already I believe.
Glad you mentioned Bangor! The Cathedral is fairly modest, but many of the Welsh churches (and Irish and Scottish) were established long before those in England, apart from Cornwall.
Don't forget Ripon.
First time Iâve come across one of your videos- Iâm actually from Lincoln and there are laws that mean buildings can only be built a certain height so the cathedral is visible from all parts of the city!!
I'm a Yellowbelly born and bred. Didn't realise how much I loved my home city until I lived away for a few years. It's basically a student town now, which has replaced the manufacturing industry Lincoln has gradually lost since the war era. Lovely to get an American's take on it. And nice to see so many people from all over the country and the world getting some enjoyment out of living here.
Long time since ive heard that term âyellow bellyâ -me too.
Lincoln as a city is over 2000 years old.. the body of water next to the university. The Brayford pool.. is what gives Lincoln its name .. being a roman settlement.. the Garrison name was Lindum Colonia Roman mean for the Pool Colony, Lindum Colonia was Abrevated to Lincoln.
As kids, when we were on the way to the coast from Nottinghamshire dad would drop us off and we'd race the car up the hill to the top. They always got stuck in traffic so we'd often win.
hiya hope your well thankyou for representing my city in your vlog lincoln †kind regards lee
I was in Lincoln myself a few days ago for the first time, I was so impressed! It's beautiful, amazing architecture and so clean.
I live in Lincoln, really enjoyed your video, itâs great to see a visitorâs perspective as I have never done the tourist thing here, although I have done the castle and cathedral tours, they are really worth doing
Thatâs not a canal running through the city centre, itâs the River Witham.
When I was a young and foolish teenager, I once ran up Steep Hill. Never again!
If youâre up the hill at the Minster, you should also visit the Castle opposite, which is fantastic. The prison chapel is so spooky. And the best view of the Cathedral is from the Observation Tower of the Castle.
Great enthusiasm as usual, the reason why we watch
I live near the marina in Lincoln. Iâm lucky as itâs an apartment so I get to see the castle and cathedral from my window all lit up at night. The castle holds the Magna Carta and the cathedral is a thousand years old. Glad you liked your visit
Just caught your channel. Lincoln is the most underated City in the UK and we like it that way. Glad you loved it. Hope you come back soon.
I love Lincoln with its castle just across the square from the cathedral. I went with my family for a few days a few years ago and didnt even go near the city centre, there was just so much to see. They certainly weren't wrong when they named the street Steep Hill.
Just a heads up, if you come back to lincoln, another treat for visitors that alot of people don't expect is the red arrows. They are based at RAF Waddington, which is just outside lincoln and they train on most days so when its a clear day you get to see them flying around, practicing and doing manoeuvres. Its quite a sight. Hope to see you soon in this beautiful city!
Thanks for the info!
â@9B4MTheFamily great video man I was born there I am trying to come back. I prefer Lincoln but I have been homeless and I need a job there.
Lincoln Cathedral is so dominant that on a clear day you can see it from the top of Norton water tower in Sheffield, which is 45 miles away!
When you started the video, for a moment I thought youâd joined a SWAT team. But it was a shoulder bag strap. Your kids have grown yet again! Must be the fish and chips!
đ€Ł Yes it is the fish and chips!
Hi - I just watched you and your family's tour of Lincoln and so glad you managed to see inside the amazing cathedral. Just wanted to let you know that the "Harlequin" - a black and white Tudor style building about halfway down Steep Hill - was recently an antique bookshop, but prior to that it was a public house (bar) and my great uncle Fred Reynolds was the last landlord there. I am now 70yo and living in Perth, Western Australia, but my brother still lives in a village just out of Lincoln. Should you decide to visit Lincoln again, and I recommend that you do, please spend more time in the uphill area and visit Browns Pie Shop on Steep Hill and many of the shops etc in Bailgate. It's wonderful that your family are able to enjoy these experiences. Keep it up and enjoy. Warm regards to you and yours, David đ
My home City - lovely POV and walking tour showing off the best of beautiful Lincoln
As a resident of this city, I can tell you that a few months ago somebody was sentenced to jail in the castleâs court!
Really... it is still used.
I live 15 mins south of Lincoln! Iâm glad you finally managed to get the kids up the hill to the castle. I hope you get to walk the battlements at some time. The views are fantastic. The Victorian pirison is an interactive museum so good for kids. The castle also houses a copy of the Magna Carta.
We love living near Lincoln. It isnât as full of things to do as York but a much nicer vibe than Nottingham and you can walk everywhere. Steep Hill is called Steep Hill for a reason but itâs 100% worth the climb and the market square, castle, cathedral and Bailgate area are all the best parts of the city. I much prefer exploring up there than down at the bottom, where you mostly were. Thereâs old Roman walls and archways to see and more unique, independent shops up that part of town.
If you walk through the castle to the other side and cross the road, youâll find a converted hospital called The Lawns. In there is a lovely cafe owned by the coffee company Stokes, which does fantastic brunches, and a great tapas restaurant, called OlĂ© OlĂ©.
When youâre on The Straight (the bit that starts to incline, just before steep hill), turn right, just near Pizza Express and follow signs to The Collection Museum. Itâs a free interactive museum about the history of Lincoln, especially about Vikings and Romans.
If youâre over in Lincolnshire again, Tattershall Castle is a nice place to visit. Itâs a National Trust property and itâs an unusual castle as itâs made of red brick, despite being mainly Tudor.
Another good place to visit at Christmas is Doddington Hall (just a couple of minutes West of Lincoln, near the A46). This Elizabethan Manor house hosts an amazing set up where they dress the whole house for Christmas with every room a different theme. One year we went and it was different fairy tales, with a huge beanstalk up the main staircase, and another year, theyâd set up Narnia! It is so well done and worth a visit. Also has a farm shop, two cafes, a Christmas bauble barn and gardens.
Belton House is a national trust property just outside grantham. It has the big house youâd expect but it also has a huge outdoor play area in the woods that children love, including den making, a mini train, loads of climbing equipment etc.
I loved your visit to Lincoln. Your children are cute and photogenic! The music you chose for the visit to the cathedral was sublime. Way to go, Mac.
Thank you so much!
Lincoln has one of the best Christmas markets. A lot of German traders sell their traditional Christmas decorations. Itâs very big and so busy you have to make an early start or park and ride. The cathedral also has a Christmas concert which is wonderful. Iâd highly recommend it. I think you can book tickets for it. Great video again x
Not anymore, they're not doing it anymore
Lincoln is a wonderful city, I live 25 miles away but havnt been for ages
I'm so glad you pronounced Lincolnshire correctly as well đđ
Love my local city...love seeing ot through a visitor's eyes too â€
The cathedral was actaully the tallest building in the world at one point! Many many many many years ago!
I have lived in and around Lincoln on and off throughout my life and to see you take such an interest in exploring it with your family was very enjoyable to watch.
WowâŠthis really is Britainâa best kept secret because Iâve been living here all my life and had no idea Lincoln was so interesting! đ I love that you and your family are getting to explore some really great places here. I have lived in London most of my life (except for 3 years spent in the midlands) so I enjoy seeing life outside of the city. I absolutely love your filming style btw. These videos are really fun to watch and your commentary is great too. I learn so much about the place youâve travelled to from these videos đ

Glad you got to go inside. Some cathedrals and churches allow brass rubbing, which your children might enjoy. Just need paper and a soft crayon.
i live in lincoln and its and beautiful city with lots of history so a good place to come if you are into history and we have a couple of museums as well

I like Lincoln compared to a lot of other cities â€
Go and visit Litchfield Cathedral, great town as well, also there is a roman ruins just before you got to the town, not far from Birmingham.
Steep hill is well named !! Lincoln cathedral is my favourite cathedral, a mixture of fortress and artistic sculptural treasure đđđ
Great descriptions...
Charming presentation
Places like this are the heart and soul of England. So glad you are visiting. (Lakeland terrier?)
I would love a Lakeland Terrier... or a Yorkshire Terrier... from Yorkshire.
The view from that castle is beautiful- I also imagine you travelled through some pretty woodlands to get to Lincoln? Some of the âBâ roads are well worth the extra time.
Thank you for visiting my home city glad you enjoyed it , if Iâve been away I feel the joy of seeing the Cathedral from miles away and knowing I will soon be home
The epitomy of irony. Lincolnshire, the flattest county in England but it's capital city of Lincoln, has the steepest hills. Excellent video by the way.
Including one road called The Steep.
