When a normal person buys art they buy it because they genuinely like the work and it will look nice in their home, well I do anyway. The types of people who pay these kinds of sums for art are simply idiots. They have money burning a hole in their pockets and they need to get rid of it. To them art is just an investment. What gives art it's true value isn't the cost of the materials or skill involved in making the work, it's the story that gives the work the value. The reason that Banksy has kept his anonymity for so long is a fascinating story and people buy into that, not because of his work. Humans are stupid and it doesn't take a genius to work out how to get people to spend silly sums on a product. Bansky continually mocks the art scene. That is what he is about.

Banksy painted all chimpanzees in the parliament which was his intention without naming MPs which would be offensive. This painting completed 10 years ago! Also, it’s clearly related to the current political chaos.
