      Don’t be ignorant. It wasn’t planned in any way, shape, or form by the auction house. The shredder, controlled by a remote held by an accomplice and imbedded by the frame, malfunctioned and prevented the painting from being fully shredded. Obviously it held some form of a publicity stunt, but that doesn’t deem it less worthy of praise. It’s art, it’s meant to be art, and art is meant to be seen.

    The art world is awash with dirty money. Artists are often assessed on how much their paintings are worth. People his street art out of it's original location and sell it. This is a wonderful act of contempt towards the art world by Banksy. Who else would do this? I think we all know the answer.
    Well done Banksy, always surprising and long may it be so.

    • @kevinpitt2203
      @kevinpitt2203 Před 5 lety

      Penile 1 - A valid point. It certainly did rise in value to the person that brought it. Although Banksy would not have got the extra value as the buyer agreed to go through with the sale. You are assuming that it would have been worth less if it had gone all the way through. I am not so sure.
      If you are insinuating that Banksy is like any other artist, then that falls down as his street works are of no value to him, and sadly are of value to those who own the wall, and rip it down to sell for themselves. It is possible to be too cynical you know. To me Banksy is a breath of fresh air to the art world.

    Such genius! How thought provoking is that! Fresh respect for Banksy!
    Questions..
    How did he get a disguised, battery operated shredder to go off ONLY at the sound of a gavel coming down given that if it had gone off prematurely, or too late, the whole thing would have been utterly meaningless? Is the painting worth more, now, or less? Did the buyer have a cardiac arrest? Was nobody, in the gallery, in on it?

    • @wallacewallaby5782
      @wallacewallaby5782 Před 5 lety

      My guess is that the artist had someone at the auction remote control the shredder and since the painting became damaged, they wouldn't have to proceed with the purchase.

      people who own their own money can decide what they want to spend it on. they can donate to charity or buy a painting. that's what capitalism is all about. but if anyone even suggest that rich people should help support the lower class in any way (example: higher taxes) you get labeled as a communist.

    I don't see how a painting could be worth 1.4 million, especially that one that is mostly white canvas. Art is so stupid, anyone could have drawn a girl holding a red heart balloon, so I just don't get why it was special, and why it shredding makes it more valuable. But I guess it's a good hustle for the artist. Probably took him 15 minutes to make that picture, a week or so to get the framing worked out and proper for it, and then sold it for $1.4 million, so he made a ton for basically no work.

    The painting will be worth more shredded, in fact just seeing the painting on the commentators background it's obvious that the "girl with the ballon", painting's main subject of intent is the separation between the two subjects in different medias, abstract or plainly by painting it in different canvas. Notice how the shredder stoped halfway? Why would it stop precisely on the same area of separation that the commentators left background painting also is separated at? See my point? This disconnect of subjects girl/ballon was done real time while all eyes watched. Brilliant! I think the trolling is more along the lines of how long it's gonna take the mainstream media to understand that just like the last stroke of a brush on an oil masterpiece is required to finish the painting the shredding halfway was indeed the finishing touch.
