Old school Submariner here, 1969 to 1975, served on the USS George Cc Marshall SSBN 654. Most systems are the same as the ones on the Marshall, only upgraded. The new Navy seems a little stiff compared to the working relationship we had with each other back in the day ( our navigator use to party with the enlisted, great guy ).

That's awesome, what station were you assigned to? If it's not classified, could I ask you a couple questions? Does a submarine have an autopilot where it can not only hold a heading and depth, but also change headings and depths at different points in the mission if you program it to? Would these controls be on the center pedestal between the helmsman and stern planesman where the EOT is? Also is it true that the controls for all the sensors and snorkels in the sail are raised/lowered by the diving officer on his ballast panel? Thanks if you can answer, no worries if you can't. :) :)

As an ex-USAF troupe, I envy (kindof) the espri of these people. Thank you for this PR film.

They actually carry up to 160 warheads - they have up to 20 missiles with up to 8 warheads each. Were it not for international agreements, they could carry up to 24 missiles and 12 warheads each for 288 independently targetable warheads per submarine, and there are 14 subs.

I think that there should be at least 12 more of these submarines in the Fleet and they should carry the maximum number of missiles and MERVS that is possible. Keep building more of THEM!!! Thank You & Best Regards

I'm just wondering what happens to the sub in the time between the old crew leaving & new crew boarding. Is there some kind of rejuvination that takes place, maintenance, mattresses replaced that sort of thing?
