      Women don't belong there.
      Women beIong nowhere near combat by design. Combat is hard enough on men but is utterly destructive of the kindness, compassion and generosity of women, of their femininity. Men having women fight for them is cowardly.
      That's not to say there's no place for women in the military. There's alI kinds of support roles for them.

      It’s not for me either. My oldest brother was a Chief as a Sonarman(STC) on fast attacks and my brother-in-law was the same on boomers. They both enlisted in 1962. Myself, I worked on the avionics used to find submarines from the air. I just did one enlistment 71-75. I met up with my brother at an overseas base and we had a 2am steak and eggs on the sub after drinking a few beers out on the town.
      I worked at EB right after I got out.

    Retired submariner here..... what the hell is a "submarine size steering wheel?" lol. Also, submarine replenishment at sea is NOT conducted on a regular basis. That type of operation is very dangerous and while it is conducted for important situations like emergency personnel transfer or equipment/supplies it is not routine conducted. That reading books aloud was a dolphin pinning ceremony and important time honored tradition and vital part of the Submariners world. The sailor was reading an section of a previous submariners experience that could have been from a battle during WWII or when a boat experienced some hardship or another notable event that was chosen by the sailor or for the sailor getting pinned. Submariners don't generally pass the time by sitting around and read out loud to each other. lol. Not a bad video just some unnecessary fluff and minor issues. Overall a decent view of the Silent Service ( was Silent Service even mentioned?) God Bless our military.

    • @jime7316
      @jime7316 Před 9 měsíci

      I have to disagree. The video was poorly researched and had many glaring inaccuracies. Steering wheel? What the actual F#@k. The best I could say is "mediocre".
      I was on a Boomer and we would NEVER come to the surface for anything short of an emergency.
      Also, I don't remember having to read anything when I got my dolphins.
      Yes the Silent Service was mentioned.

    • @nave9948
      @nave9948 Před 8 měsíci

      Better off watching the video without the sound and the part about max 10 hours on their feet or the nuclear torpedo loading and the ventilation valve being a steering wheel just made me laugh. But the surfacing part just depends on your mission and that also depends of the class of sub so some missions will have you surface daily for weeks and others you won’t surface for over a month. The video isn’t accurate by any means but it’s cool to see I guess.

    • @JackpineGandy
      @JackpineGandy Před 2 měsíci

      yeah, the steering wheel thing really set me off, but she said it really nicely ;-) No reading anything aloud when I got my dolphins, just a handshake fromthe old man and a polaroid camera snapshot Lafayette SSBN 616 Blue, was my qual boat. Also plankowner on Billfish SSN 676. Helicopter replenishment at sea had to have been a training exercise for the cameras...not practical or safe for anything more than one or two bundles of stuff, had to be extremely high value

    • @ChasWG
      @ChasWG Před rokem +1

      We have 4 SSGN's currently. USS Ohio, USS Micjigan, USS Florida and USS Georgia. They each carry 154 Tomahawk cruise missiles. The Tomahawk can also be loaded with a small nuclear warhead, but generally they are fitted with a conventual explosive warhead. While not the city and country destroyer of the Titan II SLBM, the shear amount of cruise missiles carried on a SSGN is also a big threat. And one that is more likely to be used first in the case of an armed conflict.
      But as was stated in the video, more than half of the US nuclear stockpile is on the remaining 16 SSBNs.
      I imagine that as the Columbia class SSBNs come on line that some Ohio class subs will get their Titan II's removed and be fitted with Tomahawks and turned into more SSGNs.
      As they call the SSGN, "The Admirals new toy!" Its a truly scary boat!

    • @VAMobMember
      @VAMobMember Před rokem +1

      @@ChasWG I don’t think the Tomahawk can be fitted with a nuke BECAUSE IT IS NOT ALLOWED UNDER THE INF TREATY but only due to the treaty. It was called a BGM-109A prior to the INF treaty. Also the GLCM launcher was trashed because of INF. My fav Tomahawk is the BGM-109D.
      What I want is not 4 SSGNs but DOZENS and about 6 to 12 SSBNs. Think about a dozen SSGNs off the coast of China all launching BGM-109C and BGM-109D all at the same time. Oh would the seas boil during that launch.

    China is hoarding shipping containers and anchoring them to the seabed at various depths. These act as "underwater mountains" to contain US subs in the South China Sea. You can expect many more collisions with "underwater mountains"

    From the design stage in the early 70's, to its launch in the early 80's, it was a very impressive machine but that was 50 years ago when computer technology was in its infancy. I'm not suggesting that up-grades were not periodically addressed but we've entered a totally new era. An era of global surveillance, satellite networks, robotics and most of all, artificial intelligence that will allow for un-manned, coordinated, swarm attacks and that's just the beginning.
    The carrier task force and the fighter jets it carries are obsolete as it the 50 year old SR-77. The Chinese already have their own JPS network giving them the ability to locate anything on the globe perhaps even underwater. The Big Boys in arms development are already showing up in Washington with plans to counter these threats but as with EV cars, we can't compete.
    Chinese graduates 6 million engineering degrees per year and the US 80k and half of them are Asian students studying in the US.

      On VIRGINIA Class, the sanitary system uses a vacuum system to pull waste and gray water to the san tanks located in the AMR (auxiliary machine room). When full, the san tanks can be pumped overboard. On older LOS ANGELES and OHIO Class boats, the sanitary system operated by gravity (similar to a typical home system) with multiple san tanks located throughout the vessel.
