- In this video, I'll explain how to create a neat pop-out sidebar within your Power BI reports.
This sidebar can be hidden or shown and is a great way to save real estate within your Power BI reports.
I'll cover adding:
1. Page navigation - a section that uses the Power BI 'Page Navigator' option to create a page navigation visualisation that automatically updates when you add or remove pages to your report.
2. Slicers - If you want to add slicers visulisation to filter specific columns but don't want to tie up page real estate.
3. One-click filter - A button that uses Power BI bookmarks to automatically applies a set of multiple filters to your report so you don't need to select multiple filters or slicers manually. This example is to filter on the critical maintenance work orders.
4. Filter reset button - This button will reset all your filters to their default value with a single click.
👍Tip: This is a longer video so why not try increasing the playback speed to save time. Research has shown that this can speed up your learning! You'd be surprised how well it works!

this is pretty neat! however, when I try this page navigation setup, whenever I go back to the previous tab, the pop up is still on. I want that to be off on every page nav click. otherwise, it looks messy when you pop it up, change tab, then return to previous tab with that pop up still open. any ways to fix that?
Thank you for the video, I'm a bit of a beginner to PowerBi so this has been really helpful. Does the Menu then work on every page or do you need to copy the functionality and menu to every page?
Hi Barry, thanks for your comment. You'd need to copy The elements to every page. I'm afraid.
Hi, great video! I have a question - for every tab that you have i.e. 'Work Order Details', 'Backlog Schedule' ..... 'Help' - let's say you had 25 of them, and you wanted each 5 of those bookmarks to be grouped into some group, how would you make a Page nav so that you have each Group as a dropdown menu, so once you click, you see the 5 bookmarks belonging to that group?
Is it possible to replace the ctrl+ click with just a click?
It will be a click when you publish it to the power bi service, its only ctl click in power bi desktop.
I've found an issue:
- Open the pop out navigation -> go to any other Page -> go back to previous page you came from -> you'll see the pop out navigation is still there
is there any tricks to close it automatically?
Hi Kevin, if you create your own navigation buttons linking them to bookmarks it should be possible set a bookmark to the page with the navigation hidden. However, if you navigate using the tabs I think it remembers the last view.
Sir, How we can do the function similar to Indirect function in Excel, in power BI. For Ex. I am having a slicer with the name of all Indian states, If I don't select any thing from slicer, then in the table for ROW value , name of state should come and their population. If I select any state from slicer , then in the table, respective district list should appear and there population.
