Creating a page navigation menu with a pane to navigate to different Power BI report pages is super easy when you know how to use the bookmarks and the Selection Pane well. I have used the latest buttons features released in September 2021 Power BI Desktop update in the above video to build a great page navigation experience. This is a Power BI desktop Tutorial video aimed at beginners and above.

This was a great and very helpful video for someone like myself getting more familiar with PowerBI, using buttons, and creating a nav menu. I hope to take all these tips and work to build a similar mobile layout. Just a tip if anyone needs them. The background image, and white/yellow menu icons can be pulled from the sample file if you change the file format to zip and open the zip archive.
Thank you for putting this simple yet comprehensive overview of how to create page navigators in Power BI. It was definitely inspirational and helpful!

Very much informative video. I was facing issue at navigation across Book Mark, but understanding of Group concepts made navigation very easy. Need more information if I select / filter using slicers and using navigation I can see relevant data on next page.
Amazing design.
Awesome design idea.
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, share with others, let them also get the benefit:)
Thanks for this, there is an issue if your end user want to export the report, the navigation pane remains open on the page you've just navigated from, so on the export pdf or powerpoint the nav pane is showing. I couldn't find a way to overcome this.
Really nicely explained - thank you
Thanks 🙏
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Great video, thanks for sharing
You are most welcome and appreciate it
Awesome Tutorial !!!!!
Glad you liked it!
Excellent info
Thanks for the wonderful video with detailed instructions on creating the popup page navigation panel. I also likes the background image you inserted. Do you have a video on how to create a Power Point background image? Also with the new page navigation feature in Power BI, can we just add a page navigation pane without creating separate buttons for each page? Thanks.
Amazing job!!
Glad you like it!
Hi, thank you for this video it is very informative for me. how do I go about adding an icon after clicking "custom" under shape list? my version does not give the option to add an image.
The BEST!

Thank you for the amazing explanation, it was really helpful, thanks.
Also, just wanted to check if you have any video on end to end power BI projects.
I am gonna surely work on the same, if there is. Thanks again!
Sorry, I haven't made any end-to-end projects in Power BI. This looks like a good idea for a future video.
great indeed
a lot of thks very helpfull
You're welcome!
Nice one
Thank you Sir for sharing !! If we use in a different size video, all png and charts will be automaticaly resized ?
Thanks so much for this video. Great tips. I am working on a program and would love to have pages and subpages. With pages representing a project and subpages their corresponding reports. As an example : sales, cost, profit overview could be subpages to each project within the same program.
This will require each page to have a summary scroll down which when click on list all of the subpages and reclicked shows only the page.
Any chance you share tips on this please please. Truly appreciate all you share for free over here.
Thanks for watching the video
I will try to crate a video on how to create such navigation
Awesome Video.
Thanks for the visit
Awesome 👍
Thanks 🤗
Great video. I am not sure if you covered this, but when I go back again to a page (I have already opened previously), the page navigation on the left remains open. How can we fix that so whenever we go back to a previously opened page to find it in a close format?
Thanks for your Lesson from Basics to Pro. Do A video on Bring Forward/Send Forward Tabs.
Noted!
You can watch this webinar that I did for the UK Power BI User Group.

Hey bro
Round of applause for this video. You made life simpler by this video.
I'm now a big fan of you.
Also requesting to create a video where we can do something totally different from the bottuns and navigation.
Thanks
Sure I will
Great and amazing
Thanks
tks!
Aweesome...
Great video
Thanks for the visit
Great Bro👌
Thanks for the visit
This video is just great. The panel is very useful, thanks for sharing it.
Do you know where I can get a home button that has a white outline? just like the ones you have. All the ones I look for have black outlines.
Appreciate it.
I use this website to make icons.
logomakr.com/
First of all excellent video cristal clear, I just want to know why I dont have the same formates that you have, for example when I create a button I dont have shape option, or the custom buttun in order to put and image instead the default images
Thanks!
Make sure you have the latest Power BI Desktop version downloaded
Thanks for this! Looks amazing! On top of opening different reports, I am also looking for an option where the opening report can be filtered based on button click by passing parameter. Do you know how we can achieve this?
Glad it was helpful!
I am not sure if it's possible pass parameters, if you could explain more, it will help me understand your question better.
@@ExcelFort In SSRS, you can open a report and pass parameters to it, filtering the report, so you get a subset of the data (I think you do it with a bookmark and the Data property).
Thanks for this! Looks amazing!
I use the app function to share my report with the users (because of the navigation).
But this means that 15% of the screen is always navigation. So this solution is extremely helpful.
Can you tell how to hide all the std navigation panes?
Appreciate it,
The Std navigation pane cannot be hidden,
Hi folks, really cool video. Assuming by standard navigation panel you mean the power bi service page navigation, you can simply hide the tabs except your primary tab(featuring the cool navigation featured in this video). You will still be able to navigate to the hidden tabs
Hi Fowmy, thanks for this. Is there a better solution now using the new navigation button panels in combination say with the collapsing panel but without the overhead of the navigation bookmarks?
Yes, I did a webinar for a User Group recently where I demonstrated a technique but using the Bookmark Navigator.
Here is the link: czcams.com/video/cTByAaXZjKw/video.html
so good! Can you explain the reason for selecting the menu objects before creating the bookmark? thank you
I wanted to apply the bookmarks only on selected objects so that later when we add visuals they won’t be affected. I selected the objects and set SELECTED VISUALS IN the bookmark property to accomplish that.
Is it possible to apply different filters as drop downs to the visuals in each page?
Thank you so much for this video which is so clear and helpful. Also, the way you have explained it step by step was appreciable. Keep it going. Good Job
Great video. When I go to update my bookmarks, however, they both update so I cannot get the button functionality to work. Any ideas on this?
Thanks
🙏
thanx for this tutorial, really helpfull and useful! .....but I have a trouble.....cause when I show or hide the right tabs (for example the visualization tab of power BI) the shapes and background move and the impagination doesn't remain locked adn/or it doesn't adapt itself......where am I wrong? thanks
Glad you like it!
It looks like an strange issue, I haven't faced it. Publish your file to Power BI service and check if the locations of the shapes change.
Excellent video. I did all the steps and it worked. all perfect. thanks for sharing. Only I have a doubt, when I created a bookmark, when I choose selected visualizations, did not work, I had to choose all visuals, and then it worked. Do you know why? thanks.
Thanks!
Before creating the bookmarks, make sure you open the Selection Pane, select the Visuals+Objects pressing CTRL then choose the option All Selected Visuals in the Bookmark
At 7:56 what type of button did you choose? And how you were able to disable the visualizations on that page.?
Thank you for this video. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this always defaulting to the Menu objects being open when moving from one page to the next (although admittedly it seems to be worse in Chrome). There is always an extra click required when going to the next page. It confuses the users. I've probably set something incorrectly. Greatly appreciate any advice on this. When using this, it would also be nice to remove the default navigation Pages menu that Power BI forces by default, otherwise there are always two navigation menus. The purpose of this for me was to give max screen size and width for those using smaller laptops. Appreciate any help on this. Thanks
Amazing video, thank you for sharing. One query, can we have the same bookmark for 2 different pages?
If it was possible, I would have saved a lot of work:).
Actually, bookmarks are specific to the objects that used at the time of creating them so you cannot dynamically change from page to page. Hope you got it
