How To Win More Races

- There’s an old saying that goes something like, “Success is when preparation meets opportunity.” In racing, it is commonly said that races are not won at the racetrack, but in the shop before the event.
In this jig-side chat, Tim gives you something to ponder about... What does it take to win? What are the common pitfalls that racers find themselves running into over and over again?
If you have a braindead or distracted driver and you are not prepared, you will not win unless it’s by accident.

That’s the message for everyday life!!!!”FOCUS AND PREPARATION “
I expect I won't race at the level he mentioned..... But his advice is the same regardless of level.
Arrive at the track ready to race and focus on the task at hand. When I started foot brake racing my street car, I started watching what people who go rounds do. From the front gate to the starting line.
It was an education you can't buy from a catalog.
Tim years ago I crew chiefed a pro4 dirt car. We had a set of prep and scheduled checks and maintenance. On Monday after the race, the driver washed the with a blow dry and a light mist of wd40. Wednesday the entire crew gathered, looked over the whiteboard and each of us had specific jobs after we all checked 1/4 of the chassis for cracks. Every bolt was checked for tightness, oil changed, fill diff, fill trans, fill radiator, check lash on cam followers, check brakes. Everyone worked on everything on different weeks, fresh eyes an different view point. We won 13/16 features we entered. All in the prep. Only on real bad thrash on race day fixing wreck damage from the heat race!! We had so much more fun just being prepared to win!
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity - Seneca. one of my favorite quotes. seemed fitting
I completely agree. Practice how you play. You have to take a systematic approach. We've emailed, aback and forth and you've motivated me with these videos. I also think preparing to win on race days includes being well rested and properly nourished and hydrated, too.
I don't run 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile, but I'm beyond glad my dad never stuck me in something like what I race today when we started racing 15 years ago. It took all that time working our way up to where we are and i never could believe how much I learned along away between how to drive and wrenching on the truck. 100% agree on preparation is everything, you have to go over your stuff or all the little stuff ends up biting you in the ass at the worst times. Great video Tim, enjoying all your content.
Have money, pretty much! Just get a nice chassis, a nive engine, put turbos on it, get someone to tune it. It's easy now. Im a pro stock kinda guy, I wish we still had some NA stuff, but we wanna go faster!
For me the years we have done better is when we are prepared and also get out there more. The more we go to the better we do. Not everyone is like Zizzo and can go out rarely and do well. But he does that because they are always working on that car
Tim you are so right with every thing you said but might I add that this attitude in life no matter if its racing a car or digging a ditch will get you further un life and faster to achieving your goals!

@@Timmcamisjust watched it. Thank you for sharing.
A lot of wisdom and experience in this 6 minute video. Thanks for sharing Tim.
That's why mechanics make the best drivers. That's why Kyle Bush can win in just about any situation. Being a mechanic and fabricator allows you to have a better sense of what is happening with the car and what needs attention.
Goes both ways. Kyle Larson can’t change his own oil.
@@Mikeyhoncho1 Kyle Bush 229 NASCAR wins in all top three series.. Good luck bud.
@@FrequencyOfThought166 of those came from going to xfinity and truck series and kicking puppies . Fantastic driver don’t think it has much to do with wether he can build his own car . Other guy was just saying there are super talented drivers that can’t do shit to a car but can drive the wheels off it and communicate to their team what they need and rely on team to give it to them . Which is there job .
@@FrequencyOfThought Look at the age difference between the 2 Before you go running off with the lip about how many races he's won🧁
@@dakotaautosales9673 Next thing you know this guy will be setting up a future telling business.. Dude be buying crystal balls by the truck load.
Smart man !! Well put , you have to be prepared mentally and physically . Thanks tim 😎👍👍
I build engines and work on race cars.
I love these videos. Tim is always dead nuts on point!
Very clever and knowledgable dude.
as we say in aviation "take offs are optional, landings are mandatory".
Spot-on, Tim, it would so, bug me, when I wasn't racing, go to the track with someone who did have a clue!!!!!!!
Tim your a great person and I’m so happy that you are so involved in this sport man what a guy what a great message - u know what they say too common sense ain’t too common anymore, you always break it down to the simple stuff man, and at the end of the day, that’s where everything gets determined, in the details
100% truth Tim.
He's been there!
If I ever work myself into a financial and available time position to build a race car, I know who I'm calling.
Tim, Thanks....You are exactly right
Thanks Tim.
💯 Tim!
If this gets in anyone's feels then they need to address themselves.
100% right prep is everything
and not be that guy with the lights on but nobody's home
There is a vast difference between those with $ that buy a car because they think racing is cool ( lasting only a year or two ) and those whom view racing as a process / business / problem to solve / goal to achieve. The year and out people do serve a function as this is where used cars come from.
words of wisdom right there
12👍's up Tim McAmis thank you for sharing 😅
Hey Tim,
Great video
However, it does apply to those “weekend bracket cars” as well.
Thank you you alwayes give very good advice and show howe to do thing the correct way and I like what you said if can't drive them in safe way stay home and do something else and this way you want some one out with you
Believe it or not everyone’s not out there to win some people do just wanna have fun racing their car
Sure is the truth 😊
A wise man.
100% Fact it’s a sport not like any other but you have to practice and have the same mind set as would in any other sport.
Great points. Was hoping for one of your funny videos though. I need a laugh today.
Now that's a thumbnail
Would you run with an open transmission tunnel in your promod?
Anthony HERNDS is a born winner record holder tuner driver mechanic and all around bad ass!
Ok Anthony , ooh volkstrokes
Both hands 🙌
There is a great need for frames for famous brands, can you do any of these frames?
How much lighter is a chromoly tube chassis compared to a factory steel chassis
Great advise right there. Wow Tim 6 minutes of video without a cus word you okay man?
I thought he was going to be like… go faster. 😂
A big part of winning is the maintenance done in the shop.
10-4!
truth
Shouldnt my ProMod Drone should have come preprogrammed to pay attention? Was that the last update i missed? I caint eat all these Cheetos and pay attention too
I've always said going fast is A Lot of work and that's why I'm slow LOL
I agree to a point because many people just have money and can afford the nice stuff but a guy like me has to do most of it by himself and if you don't have a name your not going to find a sponsor and that sucks because I've loved drag racing from the day I was born and I've gone after it but also with a family taking care of them first but a guy that has the Gift without the Money it's almost impossible but I'll tell you this if the Right One comes along I won't be beat believe that because I have every confidence in Myself and My Abilities and I Always have. People know me as EddieFast. I've seen Good Men Struggle and Never make it not because they couldn't because they didn't have the funding. I just wish we could go back to old school pro mod that would be the challenge and those with the money might as well sit home with that deal. I do like a TM car I just can't afford One. So I'm a do it yourself kinda guy but at 65 Year's Old it's getting a lot harder especially with a clutch car but at least I still got those adjustments. It's such a Shame a Gifted person can't Always show there Gifts but they All try and I support everyone of them
Love it. Keep it up
@@Gatf4 Thank You
Yup, when your run only last seconds, you better 100%.
If you are not expecting to win stay at home. Preparation preparation, execution. I would not load my car and go to the track if when I pull in the gate someone hopes I am their draw.
Sometimes you have to focus on just being better than yourself. Sometimes that's the "win" that's important.
Expecting to win only applies once the car and driver have reached a certain level. I ran local oval track for a while and saw too many that were ill prepared expecting to win and get frustrated ( the tool throwers ). Some moved up a class " in order to go faster " then they still performed poorly.
racing is always won at the shop..
Ya need a Tbox
If your drivers wife calls him every hour ragging on him: Bail
If your driver starts dating a Stripper: Bail.
If your driver shows up 2 minutes before 1st round: Bail
If your driver doesn't pay his bills: Bail.
If your driver.........: Bail.
Lol
They called that the sixties and the seventies part of the eighties
omg that first had a buddy who's wife would call every half hour, every time he came over to help me. She'd be like when you coming home and he'd answer, same as I told you last time.
Races won by accident=the other driver crashed.
this goes for all drag racers.
Some of us don't need the pep talk. You have any idea how hard it is to run a competitive small tire car in the southeast nowadays? We have to be on top of everything at all times. It's harder to set up a 275 radial stock suspension car than one of these rockets.
I run a 4 speed with a clutch. tell me how hard your setup is.@@damianlindsey6177
There's one way to win. Be .00s take .00s !
Won't following this advice curtail your sales of " driver starter kits " ? . Makers of Cheetos and those 44 oz. Mountain Dews gonna be sad .
