- The engine is the heaviest addition to a race car and its location plays a significant role in how the chassis works on the racetrack. In this video, Tim provides insight on how the position of an engine is determined while building a car as well as different variables that are considered in the process.

Tim’s the man. Knows his shit.
Always great information
I suggest you put a price on your web site for the service of any of the many questions you get , it would come with a model fill in the blanks with customer information for their particular need like engine placement
Just sayin-Keep it going you are helping a lot of people anyway
Makes sense, I'm just getting my feet wet on this going straight thing. Have been around circle track my whole life, wanting to learn all I can, Mr.Tim thanks for the geometry lesson. Maybe one day call some of these big dogs out if I hit the lottery lol

Thank you Sir!
Thank you so very much btw!
Well said tim
were do u put the level . I all ways put it front to back were the intake Seals go on the block . I seen others put it on the carb pad on the intake . but i all ways felt it should be put on the block . most intakes r raised higher in the rear . by putting the level on the block . the carbs are level under acceleration
What about on a cummins any help ??
Can you talk about suspension? I'd like to know how can NoPrep cars put so much power down to the track
Tim What's the smoke sign for motor placement?? Thanks for all the videos, your the best and give your knowledge away for free, all we gotta do is put the work in.. Jesus thank you!
What hemi is that?
Manufacturer of factory cars always installed the engine into the engine bay so the front of the engine was higher than the back of the engine block. The engine block needs to slope from front to back. The reason for this was so that the coolant, being water based, when the water portion turned to steam, was able to migrate to the thermostat housing and into the radiator.
As long as the fill cap is the highest point the cooling system will work just fine. The real reason OEM cars have the block higher at the front is the same reason these drag cars are mounted higher at the rear, to get the output shaft pointed at the pinion CL. OEM cars = high crankshaft CL (12"-15") and small diameter tires, 27"-30" vs drag cars with low crankshaft CL (8"-12") and large diameter tires = 33"-36".
Although I know it would be almost impossible. Be nice to be able to adjust the engines 3 axis’ position, like you can the rear suspension set-up
Ok gota ask whats with the " steel block " reference.? Is this another case of calling a flex plate a flywheel?
I learned more on this topic in this short video than anything else.
What’s the car in the back with the cover on it?
Black a secret
How about a front to rear weight percentage number to shoot for?
There are too many combinations, intended racing type, set-ups, etc. to give a general range in a single video. We can possibly do one that is typical on a standard NHRA Pro Mod set-up, but if people are interested. However, that information won't be useful for 98% of racers out there.
@@Timmcamis Thanks
every observable thing in this video is eye candy
Him: We have to move this hemi to the rear of the chassis..
Me: How come?
Him: Because PROCHARGER..
😲Do you see the size of that thing??? Daaayaaam.
