  • Mount Kilimanjaro is the world’s tallest free standing mountain and the highest mountain in Africa, making it one of the Seven Summits. Kilimanjaro's peak, named Uhuru Point, is 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level.
Climbing Kilimanjaro is unique for many reasons. From the trailhead to the summit, climbers find themselves weaving through several distinct climate zones, starting in the rain forest and ending in the arctic zone. It is said that the journey from the gate to the peak is like traveling from the equator to Antarctica in a matter of days.
Ultimate Kilimanjaro® specializes in guiding climbers on the Lemosho route. The Lemosho route is considered the most scenic trail on Kilimanjaro, granting panoramic vistas on various sides of the mountain. The 8 day variation is our preferred route due to its ideal balance of low crowds, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate.
The route approaches from the west, beginning with a long drive from the village of Moshi to Londorossi Gate. From there, the first two days are spent trekking through the rain forest to Shira Ridge. Then the path crosses the Shira Plateau in a pleasant, relatively flat hike before traversing underneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field. Finally, the route ascends to the summit from Barafu. Descent is made via the Mweka route.
Kilimanjaro is very popular with both experienced hikers and first time adventurers. Scaling the mountain requires no technical skills or equipment, such as rope, harness, crampons or ice axe. Therefore, it is a hiking or “walk up” peak, not a mountaineering or climbing peak.

In July 2022, a videographer accompanied our group on the Roof of Africa. This 27-minute video is the culmination of five months of work. But we think it was worth the wait. The group ascended the 8-day Lemosho route, which is considered the most scenic trail on Kilimanjaro. It is our preferred route due to its ideal balance of low crowds, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate. Read more here: www.ultimatekilimanjaro.com/lemosho-route/

My wife and I did this same route with UK in Dec 2021 and it was amazing. UK is a great company and their guides and staff are amazing. They are professional, sincereand always positive. The porters worked very hard in very rough conditions but always have a warm greeting and smile. I highly recommend UK. From booking to pickup at the airport to the hotel stay they were on it. If people got sick or were tired they would carry your bag. They met every request made and put the needs of the hikers first. We never had any concerns. It was worth every penny for a once in a lifetime adventure. My only regret is we didn't have time to do a safari afterwards.

I did the Lemosho route in Dec. 2012 (albeit with a different company) - this brings back amazing memories of the climb! Thanks for posting.

What symptoms of altitude sickness did you get ? How do they determine if you need to go down ?

Nausea was the worst. I threw up all my food upon getting to camp and eating after the third day. The next morning I had more projectile vomiting. I was even taking the altitude sickness pills. I rarely vomit, so this was uncommon to me. My oxygen was fine, just the nausea. Of course, this made me feel weak. However, I was nursing a fibula that I had broken 3 weeks before the hike. I felt I was fortunate to have made it the 16 miles up. With the broken foot, I knew I did not need to take on the next 3 days heights, boulders and cliffs and more nausea. Ultimate Kilimanjaro guides left it up to me. I made the decision along with 2 others who were feeling poorly. This is a trip I will treasure forever. Go for it! They will take care of you, regardless of anything that may happen. Such an experienced, compassionate group. I just love them all.

Currently short listing companies to climb with but the fact that you serve guests stew, ugali and sukuma wiki has probably put Ultimate Kilimanjaro as the top pick (among other reasons ofc)! I hope this is on all your routes :)

Great video, I just completed it myself. My mistake was it took me 2 days to climb and 1 day back down. Head down arse up type of walk, could tell you the view until I seen your footage lol😂
