  • VISITING THE SCOTTISH HOLIDAY HOME OF THE ROYAL FAMILY: BALMORAL CASTLE// Hello lovely people, Today we're sharing our visit to Balmoral Castle, the Scottish holiday home of the royal family. After our visit we think it's the most incredible place for long walks and hikes - the gardens aren't that impressive but the landscape and Scottish Highlands are simply breathtaking. On our way back home to England, we had to visit at a Whisky distillery in Scotland of course so we went to the Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery because Jörg really loves whisky so we booked a tour and a little tasting (though I will never be converted as I don't like the taste of alcohol). By pure coincidence, we stumbled upon The Highland Chocolatier in Pitlochry when we drove to Aberfeldy which was so nice as the chocolate is absolutely divine and the people in there so nice. We hope you enjoy this video. Kirsten & Jörg xx

I agree with you Kirsten, alcohol is blah. Being almost 60, I remember when cough meds had small amounts of alcohol in them, enough to burn the hooties out of your throat going down. Never could abide the smell or taste after that. It reminds me of medicine and being sick. You were very fun to watch while tasting it, though! You made me chuckle out loud. Great video, fun and entertaining as usual. Cheers, Mary

Oh wow, I thought are they really at Balmoral?! How wonderful! It’s so beautiful and peaceful. I am always in a good mood within moments of clicking on your video ms. I didn’t know about the cairns. But I do know that it’s the law that if you leave your umbrella in the car, it will rain.
I am strange. I actually love the rain. I always feel at home 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
And I‘m also a Jemima Worrybee! But now it’s a cute thing to be, instead of a pain, thanks for that!

Kirsten, you and I are a lot alike. My husband calls me a Worry-Wart as I worry about everything 😆. I think you two should get V.I.P. Treatment when visiting Castles and Stately Homes, because you both are such lovely people who respect the rules and the places wherever you visit. You enjoy the history, lands and buildings and share your love of Historical places with viewers who are unable to visit themselves but who dream of visiting too and can do so while watching your videos. …Wow, Albert’s memorial Cairn is amazing!
How was your Gluten Free Orange Cake? Whiskey is not my thing, but my husband loves It. Especially if it’s from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

What another lovely treat of a vlog! The hike around the castle looks very doable for all levels of walkers! I loved seeing the cottage and greenhouse.
I would gladly join you in the gluten free cake and hot chocolate but skip the whiskey. I don’t understand how anyone can drink it although I do put bourbon in my trifle at Christmas! 🤷🏼‍♀️
Have to tell you your last video of that incredible hotel inspired a redo of our stairway and upstairs hallway. The painting is currently being finished on the walls in a lovely stone taupe (greige colour)we have painted our railings black and we are beginning to choose artwork (black and white prints, B/W photographs etc from our (extensive) collection) to get them framed in black and cover the walls floor to ceiling! It is a wide staircase and hallway for our city house and will add a lovely bit of drama plus allow us to see our collection every single day! I do hope we will be able to go and stay there one day but for now I will watch and rewatch your lovely video! Thank you!

The estate is absolutely huge so you can so on very long hikes so there's definitely something for all levels. Wow, how great to hear that the hotel inspired you. I must say we found it extremely inspirational as well. I'm sure your redo will turn out beautifully.

What a beautiful and atmospheric place. It's no wonder the Queen loved this as her favourite place. If she was going to pass away it would be here which makes it so sad. It will always be special.

Very nice! I was watching the tv and they showed a picture of Balmoral. I had never really paid attention to how it looked, but I liked all the turrets! So, in honour of the Queen, I saw you had a video of Balmoral. Alberts’ cairn is a highlight!❤️🇨🇦

This was a favourite of Queen Victoria, even after she was widowed. The depiction of her with John Brown, in the film Mrs Brown was lovely. The film about her and Abdul was also lovely. Though sad in the way that he was treated by the new King after her death.

You will probably need a good stiff slug of Whiskey after your hike. The woods look like a lovely property. I was just reading about the visit of Nicholas and Alexandra to Balmoral around 1895....Olga, their first daughter was just 1. They arrived in OPEN carriages from the train station in spitting rain, with torchlight procession near the castle. Can you imagine? Nicholas was obliged to go tramping around the property trying to shoot a stag or some grouse. He got a few grouse but no stag. He was not pleased. In addition he had a toothache that made a few days miserable. The weather in their 11 day visit was very changeable but mostly foggy, dreary and cold. Alexandra loved visiting her granny there because she had great childhood memories of summer at Balmoral. Queen Victoria kept the castle at 60 degrees, which means you would have been chilled to the bone without heavy woolen sweaters, jackets, voluminous woolen skirts and flannel petticoats, or for men, tweed or woolen plaid trews. That is a pyramid to Albert, the "great and the good"! Wow, those chocolates look very high end. Lovely. When we visited the Highlands several years ago we had never been in weather so completely changeable -- every 15 minutes a change, from spitting rain, to sleet in the higher elevations, to brilliant blue sky, sunshine, and then back to rain again. We wore waterproof rainwear with fleece underneath and were very comfortable all day long in May, I believe. Daffodils were in bloom, so springtime, yet the trees seemed to be more in leaf than in your video. I was most impressed with Glen Coe where a great battle took place. I could see in my mind's eye kilted warriors on those rocky hilltops. Wow. I love history. thanks for this tour. I didn't know you could only see one room, and then, no photos. I guess the royals have reason to protect their privacy.

That was a fun trip. What a beautiful castle. You two are silly, in a very good way. You always seem to have lots of fun together. So glad it didn't rain. Kirsten, your expressions were priceless when you tasted the alcohol. I completely understand. Glad Joerg found some treasures to take home. Thanks for another great adventure. See you next time.
