Reliance was purchased in 2003 from the University of London’s marine laboratory division which operated her off the coast of Scotland. The owner, experienced both as a licensed commercial deck officer and yachtsman, was seeking a “Little Ship” and having inspected many potential vessels he selected Reliance as offering the best fit for conversion to pleasure cruising to satisfy the objective of safety and reliability when cruising wilderness waters.
Reliance is an amazing safe vessel with a focus on ease of operation. This vessel can be easily handled which makes the learning curve quick and gets you out sooner to enjoy this incredible coastline. Refit designed in England, she comes with a surprisingly comforting interior space, which is so important while cruising. At 50 feet and 50 tons, Reliance is a true “little ship” with legendary sea keeping capability attested to by her sisters who fish offshore in the Western Approaches waters of the UK 12 months of the year.
The opportunity to satisfy an extensive specification of experience-based preferences in respect of performance, reliability and ease of maintenance was realized consequent to a total gutting, replacement of all systems and equipment coupled with a complete interior refit resulting in a virtually new vessel excepting the hull and running gear which had been built originally to a commercial vessel specification and standard.
A refit team was established comprised of naval architect, specialized yards, and skilled craftsmen. A new aluminum super structure was added and the existing spaces totally gutted and reconfigured. Both totally new electric and plumbing systems and components were installed with emphasis on ease of access for maintenance.
Reliance has been upgraded into an amazing vessel which opens the doors to embark on longer journeys. A perfect design for exploring this gorgeous coastline!

I don't agree. He gets lost in the minutia and will go on and on about some minor detail of decoration, while completely skipping over important facts about many of the boats he gives walk throughs on. I had to listen to him go on for two minutes about a $5 window treatment, hoping to here more about the galley one time. He blew right past that, and went on to talk endlessly about the color of a door. Stop getting bogged down in the trivia. Yes, the wood is nice. Give more details about the freaking boat. Not the interior design or throw pillows.

Wheelhouse is spectacular, the analog gauges and engine telegraph are just what this vessel calls for. Dutch doors to the bridge wings would be nice and I think I'd paint all that cabin woodwork white as well, to give it more of a classic yacht feel. Also could use grab rails on the deckhead. Gorgeous vessel for sure, this is one for people who like ships and being at sea, no surprise she sold as quickly as she did.
Also, Richard, it's clear that you research and go over the boats you sell in advance of turning on the camera so your presentation and delivery is clear and well thought out, no "uhms" or fumbling with details. Your videos are always highly watchable.

Why would I wanna sync the engines? Wouldn’t that mean that most of the critical machinery would get wet? Totally ungood !!! The purpose of a ship’s hull is to weigh less than the water it displaces. I’m assuming the weight of the added water required to sync the engines would certainly raze the water line a bit. The wooden Finnish interior might help keep her afloat for long enough to tarp & batten the back square doors to keep the outside water out and the machinery space water in. She’s a beautiful build. Storm Warnings be damned, the New Owner is a prudent Skipper/Spie.
P.S. It’s not a shower, it’s called the rain locker.
