    Anyone else feel bad for the other old man that was clashing with Boris? I was too young to grasp what he was saying then but now I realize he basically admitted he was jealous of Boris's family because he never had kids and now continuously regrets it in his old age. Man I forgot how deep this show could get.

    • @abc1118
      @abc1118 Před 7 měsíci +4

      Exactly. As a kid, you miss that level, but that is sort of the moral of the story for the adults - Boris envied Shlomo's business, and Shlomo envied Boris's family, and both assumed the other had a better life. Also, I appreciate the fact that they imply that Shlomo's "fancy pants business" is in fact a business that makes fancy pants.

    I can say, without hesitation, that I learned so much about Judaism when I was a little kid watching Rugrats. I was raised in a baptist household, and there were no Jewish people around where I lived growing up. So watching this show was my first and most detailed exposure to the Jewish religion (as well as Ashkenazi culture). Even years later, I still remember the Passover episode and Stu half-heartedly reciting the Four Questions.

    My all time favourite Rugrats special, it was how I got know about Hanukkah and Jewish religion in the first place. Every time the Rugrats all referred Shlomo as “The Meanie of Hanukkah” gets me every time 😄 but it turns out Shlomo wasn’t actually “The Meanie of Hanukkah” after all, he was just playing the evil Greek king Antiochus for the Hanukkah play with Boris and the two had a long time rivalry.
    My favourite parts of the Rugrats Hanukkah special was when the Rugrats were doing the story of Hanukkah in their imagination and the ending where both Shlomo and Boris finished the reading the Hanukkah storybook to the Rugrats backstage and putting their differences aside by singing a Hebrew song together as reformed friends to the audience, that was a such a heartwarming moment ❤️

    While I had Jewish friends growing up, as a Christian child, this special really is what introduced me to Judaism and the story of Hanukkah. I haven't watched it in years, but I have very fond memories of watching it as a kid. Also, the whole "I broke a 'shin' because of you!" line cracks me up to this day. I didn't get why it was funny when I was a kid, but now that I'm older, it's hilarious. :)

    Rugrats did such a great job at exploring different holidays. Also great was the kwanza special. They did such a great job at exploring the holidays and explaining them to children in a way that isn’t necessarily dumbed down but rather in a way that if in class teachers asked if they knew what Hanukkah or kwanza was kids had a frame of reference.

    Only as an adult do I spot puns like the
    "Maccababies". Only rugrats would throw the name of an somewhat obscure Israelite group that most Jews and Christians probably don't know much about. I think only some Bibles even mention the Maccabees

      As a jew, we do know who the Maccabees were. We celebrate their victory over the Greek Seleucid Empire during the 8 days of Hanukah every year. Ironically, the books of Maccabees isn't a part of our Tanakh or Jewish biblical canon. From what I've read, Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and Georgian Orthodox Christians have these books a part of their biblical canon.

    Im having the hard time telling the difference from Jewish religion and jewish ethnicity. Judaism originates in Israel. And the Israelites were often called hebrews or Jews. So if someone is ethnically jewish does that mean there ethnical Israeli (Hebrew/Israelite)? Im NOT against jews or anything. Im just curious.
