- What makes the "Rugrats" Passover episode so special, more than 20 years later? InsideEdition.com spoke to Paul Germain, one of the creators of the hit Nickelodeon series, about the episode, one of the rare TV or movie events dedicated to the Jewish holiday. To this day, he's surprised it still resonates with so many. "It's kind of embedded in pop culture," Germain said. "We were really proud of it. We never thought of it as a bit deal." InsideEdition.com's Leigh Scheps has more. #InsideEdition
*_Let's give a shout out of Paul Germaine for such a great show he created in my childhood._*
Damn you graduated from Rugrats to A Clockwork Orange. Impressive
Recess
Will get used to it, Caused they won't show this in modern cartoon
Will get used to it, Caused they won't show this in modern cartoon
Man, I miss Rugrats. The good old days, we had Danny Phantom, Hey Arnold, CatDog, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Cat Scratch, and many others
@Xiao Trash only good episode of it for me was the iCarly crossover
@Big Ol Internet Troll an old animated show on Nick, 3 cats in a mansion
@Big Ol Internet Troll It's actually a 2000s cartoon about three cats doing some weird adventures. I kinda forgot about the names until I remember the names now: Mr. Blik, Gordon, and Waffles.
You can still watch it on teennick.
Rockos modern life, ren and stimpy
Rugrats was the cartoon that taught me about Passover, Hanukkah, AND Kwanzaa as a child!
Same!
Its crazy too cause as a black man growin up in an all black household.....aint nobody celebratin kwanzaa....just bein real
Rugrats did a Good Job kicking a Serious Topic about Moses in 1995
Yeah.
They sure did.
@@martinmoore2468 SpongeBob also did the Topic of How it feels losing a Pet
Oscar jimenez it was 1996
Back in 1998, DreamWorks gave us The Prince of Egypt.
The best cartoon adaptations to the biblical Passover story:
1. Rugrats Passover.
2. The Prince of Egypt.
You gotta reverse the order boi
@@patrickphilip777 oops!
I LOVE The Prince of Egypt! 💖
@@MaggieCandy999 me too!
I still wonder if 'A Rugrats Passover' inspired DreamWorks to make 'The Prince of Egypt', which was released only 3 years after the special in 1998.
Thank you for the wonderful memories 🌹RIP Christine Cavanaugh (Chuckie), Jack Riley (Stu), Joe Alaskey+David Doyle(Grandpa Lou)🌹
rip tony jay(dr lipschitz) rip ron glass(randy Carmichael) rip cheryl carmichael(lucy Carmichael)
They're all gone 😭😭😭 noooo
it really sucks that half the cast is dead, and yet this show was only 30 years old when the reboot came out.
I loved that this episode was made in a way that children could understand Passover, with its the plot and analogies.
Big Kids=The Egyptians
Babies= The Hebrews
After seeing DreamWorks' The Prince of Egypt, this episode is pretty close to accurate.
That's my Childhood Show!
Rugrats was always ahead of its time
After seeing DreamWorks' The Prince of Egypt, I got to say, the Rugrats Passover episode is pretty close to accurate.
@@joshmontemayor6098 what do you mean?
@@collgoff, the Rugrats Passover episode is almost identical to Prince of Egypt.
My mom wouldn’t let me watch ‘Rugrats’ because she thought that I would end up acting like Angelica. But I was sneaky and watched the show when she wasn’t home 😁
This is why Rugrats was one of the best 90's cartoons.
I love this episode shout out to Rugrats and the creators it taught me about the Jewish heritage.
I don't think I ever saw the Passover episode, but I watch the Hanukkah episode ever year and it always makes me cry.
This show had the absolute best depiction of my people's culture.
Rugrats always resonated greatly with me because I have a Jewish mother and non-Jewish Father, like Tommy. In fact, my dad has quite a few similarities with Stu. Stu's attempts to lead the Seder would totally happen in my house if my Mom was stupid enough to tell my dad to lead the Seder
Chag sameach!
i remember watching the rugrats hanukkah and passover specials during the respective holidays with my cousins when we were little and was so incredibly happy to see my culture in cartoons i loved, especially since my great grandparents were russian jews like the ones in tommy’s family.
When I first watched this years ago, I thought it was a parody of the Price of Egypt movie, mainly due to how similarly it was portrayed. It wasn't until years later that I learned that the move was made two years after this tv special!!!
I mean, they're just telling the same story.
I remember the evening this episode first aired! I'm Jewish, and growing up we used to go to temple every week, but growing up on a ranch in a very tiny _tiny_ rural town-we had a non-chain grocery store, a gas station, a feed store, and one traffic light, and all grades K-12 went to the same school-so being literally the only Jewish family/kids in a mostly hispanic, catholic town was kinda strange and difficult at times. I remember when this episode aired, I thought it was the coolest thing bc I've never seen anything on TV that portrayed the origins of Chanukah the way The Rugrats did. My dad really liked that episode too, and I remember him saying that this show was gonna be big one of these days, and sure enough a couple two three years later, the first movie came out and they just got bigger and bigger.
I’m Jewish, and when I was little around the time of Passover, I would watch things like these a lot, especially the Prince of Egypt movie. I miss all the old cartoons because they were much better than these modern kid shows
Same i still have A Rugrats Passover on VHS.
I love Rugrats since I can remember and I now watch this my 6 year old son. Rugrats is truly a classic.
The Rugrats was one of the best shows ever.
My childhood
As much as I just found about this holiday special, it’s interesting how the episode has effectively (sometimes lightheartedly) explained the holidays in not only simple-to-grasp terms, but also redefined “holiday special” in a more diverse light. And that’s the more you know.
Oh, Yes! I remember having the VHS Tape for this!
*Im reading exactly what the book says*
19 and still watching rugrats
I pull all nighters cause of this show amd hey Arnold
*Rugrats
Love this episode!!!! I read the rugrats Passover book to my son. 🤗
“DONT CLOSE THE (closes the door) door”
I get so exited whenever rugrats comes on still to this day
I always enjoyed that episode!
It would be cool to see a couple of Rugrats episodes about Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah and Sukkot too ❤✡
I remember watching this when I was really young
I love rugrats and dexter's laboratory
I still watch it
It's interesting that this episode is the Rugrats version of DreamWorks' The Prince of Egypt.
Why that ONE episode? Why not the whole show?!?!
Most shows never really showed stuff like this
Cherub Oh! I wish more shows did this! It seems like a great idea for other shows!
@@bubbleguppy4892 agree, they wouldn't do this these days
Courage tackled abusive Relationships nowadays They Can't do it
Because its not a religious show
The Prince of Egypt before Prince of egypt
I remember watching this when I was a kid as well to i also remember watching tiny toons and muppet babies and a few other shows.

God is Good✝️🙏🏻💛
I love Rugrats and I remember my mother got me some Rugrats collectibles since I was a kid.
Correction from the video title:
'A Rugrats Passover' was aired in 1995, not 1996.
'A Rugrats Chanukah' was aired in 1996.
This actually aired in 1995 for the first time. I got a laugh out of when Chuckie somehow built a pyramid UPSIDE DOWN.
I loved this episode, DONT CLOSE THE door
LOVE RUGRATS!!!!!!!! #90SNICK4EVER!!!!!!!
Omg I miss this show... so much. Used to watch it a lot. Then forgot the name, and now I’m way to old to have any interest in it.

Man I miss Rugrats😩😩😩😩
I’m so glad I grew up with Rugrats.
This was a fabulous episode because it taught the young viewers the significance of Passover in a way where children of all religious and spiritual backgrounds will understand. Frankly, it also taught a few adult viewers as well.
My sister was born in 1996
For me it came on yesterday
We bought the episode on iTunes to teach our daughter about Passover.
I didnt even know about this episode hhH
RIP Jack Riley.
Ahhh, I love Rugrats!!! Hey Arnold, Recess, Demon Headmaster, Older eps of The Simpsons, Dexter's Lab.... I LOVE RUGRATS SO MUCH!!!!! Each ep was like an adventure

I remember watching that episode.
Actually, this Passover special was released in '95. You've got it mixed up with the Hanukkah special.
That episode actually aired in 1995
Rugrats was so good
Growing up I hated matzah. Nowadays I eat it with dark chocolate.
I loved that episode and I'm not Jewish.
AIRED ON NICKELODEON ON FRIDAY APRIL 14, 1995.
BORIS?!?! AHHH huh huh huhh hooo!
WRONG DATE OP. The Passover Episode aired in 1994. The "Hanukkah" Episode aired in 1996.
'A Rugrats Passover' aired in 1995.
@@TheJPSouza 1994. It was the Last Episode of the Original Rugrats before its production went on Hiatus. Rugrats Passover aired March 27,1994.
A lot of my Jewish education as a cild came from Rugrats.
I learned about Passover and Hanukkah from Rugrats
This is great. But honestly if this was aired today, there would be a big problem. Sad really
ok boomer
Kevin Garcia boomer? I was born in 99 you fool. What’s with your hostility?
It was just a 1995 'Rugrats' Passover✡ episode.
0:45 it looks like he’s talking like a grown man lol
I wish they did a rugrats purim special.
I thought this was from 1995
"Thus Saith The Lord!"
The reason why I prefer the Passover story over the Easter one is because no one got framed for crimes and got executed.
I learned about Jewish holidays from Rugrats
We need to bring God back into our life
That’s how I learned about Moses
Tommy pickles is the king lol
This episode was definitely the first exposure of any kind that I had to Jewish people and their religion
Happy early Passover to my fellow Jews.
But still they didn’t answer the question on the title
ohhhhh it was aired in 1996? 996? makes sense
As a kid, I knew more about Jewish traditions and holidays than my own because of Rugrats.
Rugrats was the first non religious show to feature a family of Jewish people.
My mind when I watched this vid:*not to be racist or anything but Asians HUHUFHFHFU*
You saw my name u know what to do
My teacher who is Jewish should this Rugrats Passover today
I know
Hello
1:15 IM READING WHAT THE BOOK SAYS
This was actually 1995 not 1996
Aww why can’t cartoons still incorporate religion like this anymore?
i very love whets the creators do because i whant the Jewish holidays know more in America and other countries
