    This is really, really, BAD. If XBOX becomes completely third party, there will be no reason for PlayStation to compete. When no competition arrives, historically, companies create anti- consumer moves. Expect prices to skyrocket on Sony’s platforms, because without competition, these large companies will do whatever they want. That still includes not owning your media and likely a continued shift to just copy Microsoft’s games as a service strategy.

      @reflectionself5595 Před 7 měsíci

      @@yanacip678 They don’t need an unbearable policy. It’s common economics for any company that practices capitalism. The demand for a console that plays Microsoft exclusive developer titles is removed. Therefore, without competition, the demand for their competition skyrockets. Also, we’re headed for an all digital future. So, we’ll just pivot from console wars to digital platform wars, sadly.

Sega went down due to trying to hard to push gaming to the next level with expensive, experimental bets like Sega Modem for online play, Sega actuator for motion controls, Sega CD for CD-ROM use or Sega Channel for subscription game services IN THE 80's & 90's.
      Whereas Xbox had the benefit of a "Mammon Machine" like Microsoft corp behind it and they lazily underachieved for 15 years now, either copying others ideas (Sega NET / Sega Channel via Peter Moore) or leveraging resources they already have lazily (Server farms for Xcloud). Xbox taking the Sega route, moving from competitor to developer. Easier for them moving into the all-digital path becoming a subscription service playable anywhere (including rival consoles). They laid off 10k of the physical media dept, outdone 3-1 again facing Playstation, so why not cut their losses in the hardware and move on to becoming a publisher. All exclusives become 3rd party while forcing say Nintendo to release a truly next-gen handheld to run these games.

  • @russellmania5349

    I disagree when you say exclusives are anti consumer and bad for everyone. Exclusives encourage competition and when there is competition everyone wins. Tbh the price of everything is so high right now, video games are the least of my concerns. And also another tbh, this might be a hot take, but gaming is dying. It's not what it used to be 20 years ago. It's not even what it used to be 10 years ago. Sure, profits are probably up and that stats tell us otherwise. But we know that the heart and soul of a complete video game is not there anymore. It's all about micro transactions and milking the customer. They milk the customer so much that they can't even afford to play two video games anymore. If you play more than one video game then you are at a disadvantage when it comes to leveling up your items in one video game.
    It is exactly like the streaming wars right now. Every company has their own streaming service. If we, the consumer, pays for 5 different types of streaming services just to watch one TV show from each of them then it's basically no different than what cable TV was.
    Eventually, we will hit that same road block with video games. It is going to go down in value and then after a short period we will have good video games again. Rinse and repeat. We lived thru the golden age of video games during the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii days. The Xbox, PS2 and GameCube days were lit too. Especially because we also had the PSP and Nintendo DS to coincide with them.
    The last couple of video games I can think of that were actually REALLY complete up on release was god of war/Ragnarok, elden ring and street fighter 6. That's it. Everything else literally had like multiple micro transactions or were released incomplete

Why? because I don't feel like SONY has a gun to my head, forcing me to buy video games. If gamers will allow SONY to coerce them into buying something they don't feel is worth the price, then it's their fault for being spineless. These corporations will do what we let them get away with. We shouldn't have to rely on Microsoft to keep SONY in check, as if these corporations have unlimited access to our wallets. I've rarely seen any organic monopoly that lasted for too long before someone else looks up and decides they want a piece of the action. It happens all the time with companies, political parties, churches even. And if Sony really tries to push the envelope more to increase profits, it's only going to incentivize potential competitors that much more.

      @@FANTAVISION You could say the same thing for Steam though, could you not? Plenty of companies have their own gaming launcher, but none come anywhere close to offering the same number of features and services available on Steam, even though there is no real reason as to why they couldn't, other than that it would likely take a lot of time and be an expensive investment upfront.
      The closest we've seen is the Epic Games Launcher and it's obvious they clearly weren't putting much effort into that. EA & Ubisoft just made what they could get by with. GOG is great, it's just more niche and simplistic.
      I'd posit it is all for the same reason: most companies probably don't think building their own platform to try and take on another company's well established platform is worth their time or energy.

      hard to find a $350-500 pc that's as powerful as series x and comes with mouse and keyboard. you'd have to spend at least $1500 then buy keyboard, mouse and monitor. and if coming from console likely a desk and chair too. this is why most people do consoles and why most will never move over. oh and then spend $1500 every 3 years or become outdated. I have what was a killer pc in 2020 now it's outdated and can't play modern games that come out at same settings it could back then. I should have upgraded last year but since I play those games on console I haven't had to. That led to Xbone, and an example of how competition is good, since Sony (strongly rumored to have been adopting the same always online, no used games platform) was able to undercut Xbone's announcement by keeping offline, physical games the standard for PS4, forcing MS to retreat from the policy, but fatally wounding its marketshare. Now, there will be no one in the "high end" gaming space to be an alternative, except PC.

    I do agree that competition is good so no one has a monopoly but everyone is so focused on a competitor for Playstation but what about a competitor for Nintendo? As everyone keeps pointing out Nintendo is "doing their own thing" and isn't really competing with Playstation so then why is no one complaining that there's no Nintendo competitor? It's possible that soon we may start to get a Nintendo competitor after everyone saw the success of the Switch (there's rumours Playstation might jump back into the handheld market) but currently there isn't really a Nintendo competitor and no one seems to mind, maybe the Steam Deck and Rog Ally could be considered but those aren't really competitors either.

    Honestly, the way it appears is that Sony and the PlayStation brand (as well as Nintendo) have been fighting for a very long time and have gone through some turbulence in which they both came out ahead of where they were. They both have done their homework and figured out how to survive in the gaming landscape. Microsoft could not and have been struggling arguably since the beginning.
    I'm not really worried about PlayStation being the "only" company in the market, because it's far from that. Yes, they compete with Nintendo and yes they compete with PC & Steam. Both of these companies sell almost all of the same titles that PlayStation sells and each has their own exclusives. I honestly think people are blowing all of this way out of proportion, especially with Sony going buck wild on prices and no competition and I just don't think that's true at all.

    I absoultely agree with you! It will be terrifying for the consumer if it will be only PS or only XB in the market. Microsoft had already killed Windows Phone, which decreased competition on mobile OS market, and that’s bad. It would be awful if we won’t have new fully fledged xbox in the future, I love both my xbox series x and ps5 (and switch), I really appreciate the experience each of these systems brings, it would be awful if it will be monopoly on the market.

  • @johnwstruhar
    @johnwstruhar Před 7 měsíci +1

    "Exclusives are anti-consumer" next sentence, "why own an Xbox without exclusives?" You answered the question bud. I agree there needs to be competition. But, exclusives are not anti-consumer. They give a reason to buy that console. Nintendo is a much better example than Sony. Their IPs sell the Switch, mixed with price. Maybe Valve has an opportunity to come fill the void. Valve has their own IP, Half Life, Portal, Counter-Strike. They make a console that supports their Valve Index and Steam OS, there could be the check on Sony. I am a Playstation fan. But, I know every company needs competition. Valve could pounce.

    • @FANTAVISION
      @FANTAVISION  Před 7 měsíci +1

      They are anti-consumer because it requires you to buy a system just due to an exclusive instead of it being a better product. Because Sony has exclusives means Microsoft needs them too, but that has nothing to do with it not being anti consumer.

    • @johnwstruhar
      @johnwstruhar Před 7 měsíci +1

      @FANTAVISION Then there should be zero consoles. Why buy one if I can do the same on a different one? I didn't buy an Xbox One because Halo 5 sucked. And I didn't care about the rest. I have a PC, now I regret buying a Series X.
      It isn't anti-consumer. Exclusives have been a part of consoles since Atari. Again, why buy a Switch if I can play Mario on a Playstation? Consoles become like Blu-ray players then. Sure, they get cheaper, but so does the quality. Then comes the question of optimization. Unlike a movie, games need to be optimized for their platform. To make a decent console and make money off of it, they need the software. Their profit on a console is terrible compared to the software. Consoles are cheap compared to a decent gaming PC. To get the price down, they need software to make up the difference and turn a profit. So, consoles having exclusives make sense compared to movies and Blu-ray players. I have both Xbox and Playstation for their exclusives. Xbox's problem is that they don't have anything worth it anymore, while Sony does. If I were Valve, I'd be chomping at the bit.

    Xbox and all the other consoles made me open my eyes this week. I realized. That no matter what. There SHOULDN'T be consoles anymore. The limit in the market. The fight over who can own what on what console. How old the consoles grow to not keep up with PC. The only way forward IS PC. Literally games are made on PC. Even if you can't play that game on a console. Wait a couple of years. And emulate it. Most of these games that are on PS5, and Xbox. Are on PC. Literally its the SINGULARITY of gaming. All becomes one and available on one. PC can Emulate the past. And play the future. And its Garenteed ownership. If the publishers try to take the games off of the market. Just go pirate it.
    NOT a great solution. But nessecary if the art is lost.
    We cant control Physical media anymore. Believe me. I wish ownershio on Physical didn't die. But this is the only way forward. If they are gonna push us into a digital age. Then we need to think about Ownership digitally. Files. We need to have the file we buy.
    Literally the only way forward. Cause if one brand of consoles can die. Then so can the others. And eventually. We all be on PC anyways i think.

    I think Microsoft's new strategy will be something like this:
    1 - Gamepass will continue, because if the rumors are confirmed (and I think they are at this point), it will be the ONLY thing that keeps Xbox viable as a console, Gamepass would be the only feature to justify owning a Series X/S;
    2 - I believe Gamepass will change it's current business model to having different subscription options, something like a basic plan and a "Master Chief" plan, in the first one the user can access the normal Gamepass catalogue, but without AAA releases on day one. In the Master plan, which will be much more expensive, users receive AAA on Day One, but this plan will require a subscription for at least 12 months.
    3 - Perhaps basic Gamepass subscribers will have discounts for purchasing AAA games on day one.
    4 - In January, MS already disintegrated the physical media distribution division, so we can conclude that there will be Xbox discs no longer, only digital. Also games from MS studios will not be made available on PS5 discs, so everyone will have to buy them from PSN Store and this mean one copy per account at full price, no more used discs market;
    5 - Microsoft will never allow it's games on PSPlus, forcing PS5 users to pay for the games if they want to play;
    6 - Single player games will be released first for Xbox/PC and then for PS5/Nintendo, they will be temporary exclusives for 6 months to one year;
    7 - Games focused on Multi-Player, like COD for example, will be released at the same time, but of course PS5 players have to pay full price;
    I agree when you say Microsoft focus now is profit, that's it. And the simple idea of a world where only one company controls the console market is scary. One think is clear, the market will change.

    I don't think it will be a COMPLETE subscription model. I think they will take a more 'windows' approach. They make windows hardware but it's not the main place people buy windows machines.

    Don't care what u think of Nintendo & Steam, they still fighting for my dollar & time to play games. In fact Steam now have labels where game is tested to run smoothly for steam deck & don't mind plenty of the clone which might priced just a little bit more than a ps5. In fact Steam is more destructive since plenty more platform can exist in it even at the Os level not to mention bootlegging Nintendo's rom. Keep up with the times man.
