- It's the time of good will to all men but for a film critic it's also the season of recrimination and settling scores.
Here I list the 10 worst films of the year - see if you agree with my choices.

Never actually saw Lion King 3D so I'm still really confused by the concept of using 3D in a 2D animated film, surely it would just make everything look like cardboard cut-outs wouldn't it?
I totally agree with your opinion on the Hangover 2. The movie had the exact same plot and jokes from the original, nothing different about it except the setting. It is another example of how Hollywood can make such absolute shit and people will eat it right up.

The reason New years eve done quite well (or done as well as it did) is because lots of families go to see films during the christmas period.
"New Year's Eve" really is THAT bad. Transformers 3 at least had great CG effects and cool 3D - NYE had about 60 seconds worth of material that was actually acceptable.
To anyone mentioning Jack and Jill not being included, it has not been released in the UK yet
New years eve? Valentines day? I just read they are doing pancake day next. I, for one, can't wait.
I expected to see Jack and Jill here too, but according to IMDB it's not released in the UK before February 2012.
I guess we'll see it in the bottom 10 next year (unless those end-of-the-world predictions should be correct).
When I came out of Film Socialisme I walked into The Guard to cleanse myself. It wasn't even that good but it felt like a godsend after seeing Godard's ego on screen for 2 hours.

Jack And Jill hasn't been released in the UK yet and isn't until February 2012.
Bucky Larson is being released direct to DVD sometime next year.

I'm glad you agreed it wasn't just for Americans, because I absolutely hated the film. It was stupid humor, I may have laughed at some of the parts, but it had no real story line and had just too many plot holes. The second was just as bad, since it was the same kind of humor and the same exact scenario.
This is more a list of "things that annoy Kermode" with example films attached, rather than the actual worst films of the year.
I KNEW he would dog on Godard again, lol. The flick really does look awful.
Oh my God - New Year's Eve took in $142m Worldwide. From the trailers I saw it's unwatchable but millions went .

I like Mark Kermode, but he's not as entertaining a complainer as Charlie Brooker. It's that note of vehemence Brooker strikes which makes me enjoy his polemic. Here, Kermode is just whining through an oscillating grimace.
Disagree with The Hangover's high rating- it was bad, but there were worse films this year. MUCH worse.
@marlboroman1985 That's what I really admire about Kermode. He has a very distinctive voice (taste-wise), and is discerning enough see a shallow but pompous film for what it really is.
@gibbi8 Good observation. When he said that you really felt how sincerely he loathed that film.
Zak Snyder apologists always defend him by saying that "some really important stuff got cut out" well... if his films weren't about 60% slo-mo then there'd be enough time to include all those "really important" scenes!
@syafiig It was in the "worst of 2010" list as it came out just before the end of the year, I'd check the review if I were you and if it's still there, it's just hilarious :D
The Lion King pick is ridiculous. It was all about money, but it doesnt make the film any less great. I hate this 3D fad, but I know it will be gone in a few years. Hate Disney for making it 3D to grab more money.
I'm surprised that Pirates wasn't there, but then again so many terrible films to chose from.

@Jamesns You must be mad because his worst 10 wasn't what you expected, but you have to realize that Twilight wasn't on the worst list because there were never any high expectations for the movie..........
Only disagree with Suckerpunch. Should at least be replaced by Jack and Jill.
Don't look at Kermode's review of Sucker Punch if you disagree. Possibly his most heated review of the year. I'm surprised it's only at 7. Personally, it deserves to be lower on that list. 3 would be fine.
The home video release is the same thing with Green Lantern. You can tell why there were certain scenes deleted. It made bad films lower themselves to an even more embarrassing level. Studio on damage control.
@mistermatt1986 Against him personally: nothing. He just happens to be a director for commercials that was lucky enough to be involved with big box-office hits: "Dawn of the dead", the Watchmen", "300", nothing more than crowd-pleasing drivel that I don't give a toss about and no one else will in a few years time, mark my words for it.

Putting the Lion King in 3D on the worst of list JUST because it's in 3D is kind of pathetic in my humble opinion.

I think it's because it didn't come out in the UK in 2011. His review came up at the start of 2012.
I fucking despised Red Riding Hood. Also, Dark of the Moon was incredibly boring as far as I'm concerned. Not as bad as the second one, but still not worth any time.

How did "Battle: Los Angeles" not make this list? That was the worst disappointment of the year for me.

This guy doesn't love cinema, he just complains, having watched the majority of those movies, I believe that they are no where near the worst movies, some where actually what I'd classify as some of the best.
I agree Sucker Punch made absolutely no sense at all, something about a mental prison for girls where they try to escape through burlesque dancing which somehow turns into daydreams about fighting fictional wars in castles with machine guns and stuff? Pretty ridiculous right?
BUT remember that its the same director who did 300, so what do you expect? I bought the dvd for a laugh and some over the top stylised fight scenes (as if 300 didnt have enough) and that's what I got. To each his own :D

It was shite, hot girls in a loud, zero-context mess. Proof if ever there was that great CG cannot support the weight of a film, it needs heart!
There's nothing wrong with Hangover 2. The movie promised and delivered. The editing was fine, the plot made sense, the sets and dialogue were good. On what critical basis did he not like the film? Let's break it down. "It was more of the same." Can't wait for next year's list featuing "The Avengers, just like the Xmen. Who wants to see another superhero movie?" I mean, really, this guy didn't list Rubber?

And while I think Straw Dogs remake was unneeded and not very good, it wasn't much worse than the original.

I agree about The Lion King. It was already massively overrated film and the 3D didn't add anything to the film. I think it was also the first time I have ever fell asleep in a movie theater.
I disagree about The Dilemma and Hangover Part 2, because I think both of them were easily at least watchable films. I can understand for people having bigger expectations about The Dilemma but those who are complaining about the plot of Hangover 2... What the hell did you expect?
New Year's Eve. aka 'Celeb Cameo: The Movie'. How the hell are we supposed to watch a film where every scene has an 'oh I didn't know he/she was in this' moment? It was exactly the same with that Tony Curtis turd 'Love Actually'.

Sucker punch wasn't too bad, maybe in the top 20 worst films of the year but it's a bit harsh to pop it in the top ten.
@yeoldsid first of all calling me a moron is also childish! I mean I tell my kids not to call each other names. second yes I know he's a critic but to tell people what they will or will not like is not part of his job! and for him to say if someone says they did like new years eve to spend 5 mins in a room with him and he will TELL them why they didn't like it is bullying!

Woah... Sucker Punch should not be on the list. It was totally one of the years Best Films. I dubbed it a "sleeper hit" when i first saw it. I guess people didn't see it how i did.
