IMO this really sucks because I think Secrets of Dumbledore was a huge improvement over Crimes of Grindelwald. It was more coherent and fleshed out and I loved seeing the world building of the franchise in a different setting. In plus, I think telling Dumbledore's story through the lens of Newt's own adventure makes the story more interesting. We HAVE to at least see the final showdown between Dumbledore and Grindelwald before they end it!

If they want this franchise to continue then for the love of god bring in a new director. David Yates style has gotten worse and worse with these movies. He has no visual flare which is essential for these stories. They need a real visionary to come in and make these movies magical again. Do a Marauders movie from when they were kids and see them grow up like we did with the original Potter cast. Get some legendary British actors to play the teachers and grown up roles. Stick to what works.

Its false that fans want potter. Warner knows well that what they want is to expand the universe, which is precisely why FB was made. However, fans want a coherent story, with logic, without unnecessary and misplaced fan services. With characters that have a good development, do not add new ones and remove them as if nothing had happened in the narrative. Not to use JK Rowling as a screenwriter but as a book writer! Create a good story beforehand and have it published. Fantastic Beast was a mess both in its production and its release, it is similar to the sequels to Star Wars (which although they made a lot of money) you can almost feel the improvisation, the fact that they had no direction or idea of the story they wanted to tell and how to define characters.
There are many stories, and it is known that the hottest issues due to fan pressure are the 4 founders, the marauders, or the development of Tom Riddle as Voldemort, so we can talk about a sequel story to the original trio working like this Adults as a 4th or 5th topic. In parallel, we have an HBO series that has been rumored for years but has not yet been defined.
For any future project I propose two main things.
    1. Story maybe based on JKR but with Gloves as a screenwriter.
    2. If is done a series, make it well defined from start to finish. (know where you GO!)
    3. Change of direction, although David Yates has done a great job in general with the franchise people we want to see a new and fresh vision, that was clearly seen when going from Chris Columbus to Alfonso Cuaron or from Newell to Yates. I would like Guillermo del Toro to do it, it would be very interesting or maybe Burton.

The first movie was fine until the end. This is a clear case of a studio wanting another franchise and hijacking what was supposed to be frankly a one off cute side story set in the Potter verse to try to turn it into a new Harry Potter. If it stuck to the cute little movie it was supposed to be about magical beasts, it would have been fondly remembered. But it dumped a basically "new voldemort" plot on it that did not fit at all, tried to milk nonexistent nostalgia for Dumbledore, who did not fit in this story at all, and the sequels were just terrible. Plus, to even have sequels they had to destroy their own continuity about everyone having their memories erased. The original cast were cast for a cute side story that was comedic and trying to turn them into "heroes" did not fit them nor the actors. Redmayne is not that kind of actor who can be the heroic action lead. The whole three films were more of an incoherent mess than the star wars sequels.

The messed up in execution and all the controversies around Depp, Miller, and Rowling just hit the franchise are the wrong time. Firstly, I think they need to move away from David Yates. The guy did an excellent job with the HP movies he made, but he is creatively tapped out.
I really hope that they leave Harry, Ron, and Hermione alone. Those three got their happy endings and I want them to leave it at that. If they want to do stories about past or the future, have them be well separated from those three. I do not want Harry, Ron, and Hermione to end up like Han, Luke, and Leia in the ST. That's kind of my nightmare scenario for these characters. I think there is absolutely scope to do stories about the founders of Hogwarts or about the Marauder era. We know that a lot happens during the first war with Voldemort when he was arguably even more powerful.

It was mostly used as back drop in the first movie and then entirely forgotten in the 2nd and 3rd in favor of stories that are honestly not that engaging. It also does not help that the main character lacked the charm of those from the main series as Christian mentioned.

I think Rob and Christian hit the nail on the head. The thing that the Fantastic Beasts movies lacked compared to the original series is that they don't feel very magical. The very first Harry Potter film showed us a magical world that was both fascinating and engrossing. It was set in a magical school, itself a enchanted medieval castle full of mystery and wonder that we get to see throughout the film and its followups. But in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them, it was set in New York City of all places. Don't get me wrong NYC is a beautiful city and a great setting to tell just about any story, but to anyone who has grown up in the developed world who has access to a TV, we are already familiar with the place. Seeing a bunch of wizards wander around NYC (even with them using magic in the background) isn't as enchanting as going to a magical castle, and getting to explore this magical world that we can only get to experience though the films and through the lens of the protagonist.

The movies feel way more magical than literally next to all of the Harry Potter movies, especially ironically the David Yates Directed movies as they actually feel magical and with effort made to them, As if they actually want to be made instead of just being a quick easy cash Rob, which is what literally all the other David Yates directed Harry Potter movies are. One of the best things about Harry Potter/wizarding world is that magic takes place right alongside our own, Not to mention that even though it is a fairly common place like New York, it’s set in the past which gives it a much more magical and unique flair to it that still has it feel like it’s an all new place :-)

As a MASSIVE Harry Potter fan, I feel like the reason why the Fantastic Beasts movies failed was that no body asked for them. Sure, everyone did well with the tools they were given, but that can only do so much. As far as I can remember, the only mention of Newt in the books was when Harry had to read the book ‘Fantastic Beasts and where to find them’.
The beauty of the Harry Potter universe is that there are so many rich stories to explore. For example, as far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to see a Tom Riddle origin story where we see Merope feeding Tom Riddle sr a love potion, to Tom’s time in Hogwarts, and his eventual rise to power as Voldemort.
Besides a Tom Riddle origin movie, other stories and ideas would be able to work so well, whether it’s a Marauders movie, a Tale of the Three Brothers movie, a founders of Hogwarts movie, a Dumbledore and Grindelwald movie (a story that Fantastic Beasts severely glossed over), and more! Here’s hoping with Zaslav being in charge, we could potentially see these ideas come to life!

I’d probably be most interested in a movie about the founders first opening the school, though I’d also be interested in a Quidditch World Cup movie using a sports movie formula, following one player/team for the season all the way through the World Cup. I don’t want or need more with the core students from the books in the adult lives, I’m far more interested in the world itself than in their adult lives. I could also see a political thriller with the Ministry being overrun by dark wizards.

As a fan of Harry Potter, I don’t want the original cast to come back I just want better story telling. The problem with fantastic beasts was that it felt unfocused. Unlike Harry Potter, Newt never felt like he was the main character in the story so I couldn’t get invested in him in that role. Honestly, I’d rather JK Rowling focus on other wizarding schools in the world, create new characters and have a focused plot and well defined main character.

I feel like because the original movies were through the perspective of someone who has never seen magic before and was in awe/love with it once seen, and the purity of his natural wonder of it really never went away (and it especially helped when that someone was a child). The FB movies were from the perspective of an adult who uses magic in a very mundane and familiar way. It was bland and boring, and it didn't help that David Yates is a very lazy director and the wizards were pretty much using their wands like guns. Shooting off generic white light blasts at each other like they were bullets. The whole franchise felt like it had a "been there/ done that" attitude about it.

I mean look at dh2? They literally might as well have used guns during the battle of Hogwarts that’s all they ever do use, whereas go back and reevaluate fantastic beasts where they actually use a lot more unique spells and actually feel like they’re having a lot more fun with it instead of trying to get It’s over and done with in the most and non-best efficient way possible.
