This is why you get your headlights restored.... Hazy Headlights vs Clean Headlights Comparison

  • Hello everyone! I've been wanting to do this video for quite some time, and finally had my chance. I've always wanted to do a case study on the difference between hazy headlights and clean headlights when driving at night. The camera angles don't do the best of judgement, but enough to see a big difference. After restoring the lights, It felt like I had the high beams on.
    I started with a 320 to remove all the imperfections, scratches and severe oxidation. Once it was all removed, I moved onto the 400 to remove the scratches done by the 320, then finished up with a 600 before applying the clear coat. This one was super satisfying since it was my new crowd king of the worst headlights I've ever done.

    I did this to a Toyota Tundra, lasted about a year. I did it with a name brand kit like Turtle Wax or something, don’t remember. I’ve been watching a lot of videos about the best products for trim and headlights, Cerakote seems to have the best results. I may try their kit.

      @StartRestoringHeadlights  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Cerakote is great! However, clear coat application is best for headlights, since you can control the amount of coverage for each square inch. When using wipes, the area where you start is going to have more material/product on it, than where you finish.

    • @StartRestoringHeadlights
      @StartRestoringHeadlights  Před 7 měsíci

      Correct. For this method, 600 only. The clear coat has filling properties in it, which adds a much gives a thicker coat of protection.

      If it’s similar to the hard to find clear coat in the old “lightbrite” kits - I sorta had mixed results…. After one year it was clear but it always had sort of a satin texture….
      I have had great results with meguiars on 2 vehicles but have not really tested the whole year timeline…. I am told the Megs says one year only to be conservative - so in reality if someone actually washes their vehicle = they likely will get a longer time period out of it

      @@07wrxtr1 I haven't heard of the lightbrite ones, but after doing a Google search, they do look pretty old. But yes, I tell all my customers when they ask about maintenance. Lack of cleaning the headlight is one of the biggest factors in clearcoat deterioration. We get mixed times on our customers when it comes to callbacks.

    Hola ¿,Cuanto tiempo seca al aplicarlo? Y ¿cuanto tiempo dura el brilo para volver a pulir?

    • @b2clown
      @b2clown Před 7 měsíci +1

      Tarda como 10 minutos para secarse y como una hora para curarse pero tiene que ser en el sol. El manufacturero dice que puede durar asta 5 años o más la claridad si mantienes tu carro bien. Con este clear coat no se pule. Solo usas lija de 400 y 600

    those are some big ass headlights.

    • @StartRestoringHeadlights
      @StartRestoringHeadlights  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Haha agreed. Probably the biggest one out there. Headlights are usually either super wide, or tall. For example the newer F250s with Vertical lights, or the Nissan Pathfinder which are pretty long.

    Can your spray be applied in direct sunlight, or do you need to let the haze clear up before being exposed to the UV sunlight for curing?

    • @StartRestoringHeadlights
      @StartRestoringHeadlights  Před 7 měsíci

      Spraying in direct sunlight is preferred. Being in the sunlight speeds up the flash off time frame.
