Based on Tony's adoption being illegal, I'm guessing all of those kids were on the missing kids list.
It's possible that no one knew any were even missing.
Realistically, no. Otherwise she probably would have been caught sooner. These things start either with one legitimate adoption, or with an abandoned/orphaned child and a corrupt agency (usually in a developing country or a war zone). The paperwork is then legitimate enough to get the kid into the first home. Then if there's issues in the first home, the adoption forums come into play, and the child is "found a better home". This is when the trafficking starts, but the child is never listed as missing.

I highly doubt that they would be on a missing kids list. Especially if there was an adoption agency involved initially and the child came from an orphanage when they were adopted by their first family. Rehoming adopted children is an epidemic in the United States and Canada. It is vile. If parents can't deal with the needs and wants of a child, why the eff do they adopt in the first place?
The children of very poor people who quietly let the couple have them. It all makes me so sick those poor children!
I think it would be difficult to be a CPS employee. I knew one and she never mentioned names, but told me a story about four kids being taken from their parents who had sold them. I was young and naive and said, "But you can't sell people" and the lady said "It was more like renting, an hour or half an hour at a time"

I'm pregnant with my first baby, she's a girl and her father and I love her to bits and pieces already. I can't fathom ever thinking of "renting" our daughter for any amount of money or anything. She's ours, and she's going to be safe in our home until the day she's decided to leave the nest.
I'd sooner sell myself into slavery if we were desperate for money and couldn't find another way. But we both are busting our asses so she can have a good future.
Parents are supposed to protect and support their children, not use them for any kind of gain. Just her existence fills me with so much joy...I can't wait til she gets here, she's gonna be a daddy's girl, I can tell already ❤

Sadly the first story is pretty common with adoption. There are entire groups on the internet offering up kids they want to get rid of.
there was a youtube family who adopted an autistic child for clout - when things got difficult they "rehomed" the kid.
They had a huge followership, multiple channels and all what's left, is the car detailing channel.
Things like this happen.

The thing that makes me worry the most about this is the kind of people looking to take on a vulnerable child from some random person on facebook with absolutely no supervision.... "parent" isn't the first word that comes to mind
I'm ukrainian. Considering the assault on human rights that is happening in my home right at this moment, the first story is absolutely breaking my heart. Not only is it a tragic fate of one child, but it is a microcosm of how my nation is often used as a vanity and virtue signaling project. Hope the kids will be ok.

The adoption system is sooooooooo broken. How these crazy MOFOs get MULTIPLE kids let alone one is scary. The sad thing is that the ones usually looking for multiple kids are the exact ones with bad intentions. The lack of oversight on these adults taking in vulnerable children is astounding. Most never get a visit. Period. They just take the foster-parents word for it.

Yeah the thing is, as someone in the system, that barely any parents choose to adopt. And so many kids end up kicked out because no one wants them. The agency is usually pretty desperate that they’ll overlook minor red flags because having a bad home is apparently better than the streets. That’s atleast what it was like for me.
RSlash's laughter at the 'adoption' story is understandable. I took it as how he expresses incredulity. I wonder how many of those other adoptions were legal.
Our bosses are most like to work remotely from vacation spots. As long as the job gets done, no one cares what state or country you are in. Also, RSlash may not be in space, but he is out of this world.

Haven't finished the first story, however, the 'rehoming' bit happens frequently within adoption circles online. I follow someone who talks a lot of her experience as an adopted child and now she advocates for stricter regulations within private and religious adoption agencies, and seeing all of the screenshots of these 'good people' listing off the children in the same fashion one would an animal broke my heart.
Edit: Yes, the ad RSlash read off was just an example of what is posted on these adoption FB pages. They don't treat these children like humans. They use them for social gratification and moral superiority, treat them horribly and toss them out if the children are too difficult or aren't shiny and new like a baby would be.
It’s bad enough doing it to an animal. To a human? Jeez.

@@guitarbass22 i mean it depends on the intention of rehoming an animal. If the previous owner couldn't continue caring for said animal for a good reason it's understandable.
But if it's on the basis of trafficking? Yeah it's sucky and suspicious.
This. My husband and I looked in to adoption when I was struggling to get pregnant, but when we realized that, unless you work with a birth mother directly, it was very difficult to ensure that the child was truly orphaned and that it was ethical to adopt them, we backed off.
The whole adoption system needs serious overhauls. It’s not as simple as “there’s millions of children that need a home” like you always hear.
And religious adoption agencies are a serious problem because they see it as their mission to adopt children from outside the faith in to families that will raise them (usually) evangelical Christian as missionary work. They do it purely to convert more people and “win souls to Jesus”. And often they do it by adopting children from other nations (sometimes by tricking their parents in to giving them up) and then trying to “Americanize” the child and deny them every part of their birth culture.
Some of these adopters do it by literally beating “the devil” and their birth culture out of them.
And because there’s almost no oversight for these religious adoption agencies, children are abused and have died because of it.
All so the adoptive parents can brag about having saved these children from their “heathen” birthplace and saved their souls.

I didn't even finish the first story and was IMMEDIATELY reminded of "human trafficking!" That's exactly what it is. Selling a person. In the most literal sense. It's not just the black market. People try this stuff on FB too, and it is MAJORLY illegal.

Story 1: if this woman was willing to sell her child because she couldn't train him like a damn dog, then I am so glad all of her kid got taken away. The fact that she is not in prison by the end of this post says so much considering she was openly committing what has to fall under human trafficking. Then has the nerve to still play the victim, there is a special place in hell for people like this. I really hope all of those kids find good homes and better lives.

Last Story: Honestly, as much of a POS that Op’s ex is for leading her on and then ghosting her the day of the wedding, i will say it’s clear that he is trying to be better. He took responsibility for what he did and didn’t try to play the victim or shift blame or anything.
He admits that he was completely in the wrong and respects Op’s decision to have no more contact.
He’s still a POS for what he did but i give him some credit for trying to better himself

Well, I believe that his awful family is to blame for a lot of his actions a lot more than he is. Not only did he lie to OP, he has tried many times to lie to himself but him denying his homosexuality had led him to his addictions and him misleading himself and he couldn't keep doing that to himself. While it's wrong to use someone, I feel like he was in a difficult position where he felt like he didn't have a choice. I think it would really help for guys like this to feel that they can be more open about themselves and their sexuality because I feel that if they weren't in such a rigid postion, none of these problems would have happened in the first place. While a lot of these are his own fault, he's not the only one to blame for any of it.
Addiction is a terrible thing, and can be the hardest thing to overcome, but what’s even harder is accepting being gay when you are from a homophobic family. I truly feel bad for both of them and I feel op’s fiancé truly loved her, just not romantically. I have a good friend who, I am fairly certain, in the same situation. I feel bad for both.
I had an ex who went through a similar program. Difference being that my ex had the decency to break up with me during the relationship, rather than waiting until wedding day and ghosting me. So as you can imagine, even though I was pretty peeve from the infidelity, I had some years to stew on it until a chance encounter allowed her to apologize. I was far more forgiving than OP was, and she was the one who also made the decision to not contact me after the apology, which is fair.
Thankfully, we're both in better positions now. 🙂
Agreed, and I really appreciate how he didn’t try to push op into forgiving him. No one is entitled to forgiveness, and he showed how much he’s grown by saying his piece and then respecting op’s feelings and boundaries
Child ‘rehoming’ is INCREDIBLY common in certain adoption circles. Specifically parents who adopt not because they want to help a child, but for either the attention, their ego, or as help around the house. It’s really really common for kids to be adopted for reasons like above.
A few years ago there was a popular CZcamsr who adopted a toddler from China to help her channel grow and then when so had a lot of subscribers and money because of this child she “rehomed” him because his disabilities were too hard for them.
Edit: thank God this did not work for them. They became the most hated and vilified CZcamsrs for a while and haven’t been able to make a come back.
The authorities were confused because no one in their right mind would do something this brazenly stupid, incredibly illegal, and extremely cruel out in the open for everyone to see. This is so insane that someone would probably think it was a work of fiction.
Indeed. I can see why the police were so confused instead of taking it as seriously as they should have. That, or they're severely lacking training.

To think she thought trying g to pawn him off to coworkers was a reasonable thing how many times has this vile creature done this b4. There is a special place in hell for people like her. Why is it the most judgemental ones are always sitting in the front of the church. Sadly the adoption system is full of bending rules to legally buy kids. Especially babies, some people will go to great lenghts and throw money at pregnant teens and poor people to aquire babies to adopt. It's a lot less sunshine and rainbows that we think.
Not just that, but the war itself. I have a sneaky suspicion the poor kid lost his parents in the war. Possibly his siblings too, if any.
Sadly, there are Facebook groups for rehoming adoption kids. It does happen more than anyone thinks. It's hidden behind a lot of private facebook groups but it's starting to be talked more on TikTok. A few creators are diving into these areas and exposing them. It's so gross.
Because some people are sick and don't have good morals, that b being one of them, hopefully if his family is alive hopefully he'll get reunited with them, if not hopefully he gets a good family who will actually take care of him and treat him as one of their own.
I'm incredibly disappointed that Rslash isn't a nebulous omnipotent entity outside the galaxy reading reddit stories to us.
It's downright criminal to see what platforms like Twitter and FaceBook will allow to go on.
The only benefit to this is that it's taking things off the dark net and back into the mainstream, which is easier to trace/track down.

I remember reading r/AskReddit about parents who fostered/adopt a kid and rehomed them. It was mostly for their family's safety or the kid's safety due to them not being equipped to handle a kid with disabilities or something.
It's perfectly legal to surrender the adopted/ fostered kid to CPS again and it happens quite often apparently. It's heartbreaking for the kid but it's understandable because whatever bad thing brought the kid in the system in the first place won't dissapear overnight and if the parents genuinely can't handle the situation it's better for everyone in the long run. On the other hand, people who "rehome" kids like animals are just sick.
It's not that hard for foster families to call CPS or a judge to get a legal transfer to a better family. If they don't you know that something shadey is going on.

From story 1. I remember seeing in a cop show the topic of rehoming. In the episode I saw, cops discovered a shed with 2 dead kids and a panicking one. They found the panicking one was foreign and had been adopted by a couple. As they went to check on the couple they found that the MOM had sold him because he was troublesome and complicated (like any young foreign teen in an unknown land). The dad had no idea and thought he was missing.
Cops then find the people (another couple) the mom used as a medium to sell the kid in a "rehoming" business. Just as they were investigating them the dad comes and tries to kill said couple for taking his child.
I don't know what happened in the end but it was messy as f-word.

#2 I had something kind of similar happen in a Zoom meeting where someone had a background of this posh looking study, and someone complimented them on their "home office". I had a picture of a Star Wars X-Wing in a hangar as my background, so I piped up something like "Yeah he's lucky, they just stuck me down here with the Droids," and she instantly realized what she'd done lol
“Rehoming” kids in America is scarily common . There is a whole network of people to will relocate kids based on no more than the fact someone disagrees with someone’s parenting…. It’s a terrifying practice

I think there is a worse issue for story #2: Why the heck does it matter where you working from it is from home?
As long as you have a stable connection and are doing the assigned work/hours, why in the world would it matter where you are? This is extremely toxic workplace control over their employee's lives.
About the WFH video. My company hired me as a remote employee WHILE I WAS LIVING IN SE ASIA. They knew I was following my husband as he taught ESL in a couple of countries. Guess what? My life as a digital nomad did NOT affect the quality of my work? In fact it made me work more effectively and efficiently so I could get my days work done so I wouldn't be up all night locally.
Story 1: I doubt that Mary is fully aware of how criminal her actions are. I don't know if she did all that for money or not, but this behavior definitely would've landed her in prison
She definitely didn't. Just putting it on social media shows she lacked the cognitive thinking to understand how terrible her action are.
She probably saw this as “normal”. She probably didn’t see the children she cared for as entirely human, or as independent people with feelings, and she saw people in Facebook groups posting this kind of thing all the time.
She probably just wasn’t aware that those people kept those posts to the closed Facebook groups, and never mentioned it outside them. She didn’t know that for other people, when the child they got rid of left, they lied and told people that an aunt or cousin came forward and wanted the child.
She probably saw all these people in the FB groups and figured either it was fine or it was something everyone looks the other way on.
She was probably bewildered at the horrified reactions of the cops, CPS, and her boss.
This is yet another example on how common sense isn't common anymore

The story says that all this happened about two years ago but I'll bet that, to this very day, she still doesn't understand why her actions were wrong, or incorrect in any way, and that she's _still_ baffled and confused about what everyone else is getting so upset about.
So this happened to me and my sister in Seneca south Carolina. My caseworker, Linda Bostwick was in federal prison for years due to this. She would have the family pay her the "adoption fees" much higher than the actual fees so that the excess payment would go to her. Then when the family wanted to sell the same process would repeat so she kept getting money. My sister was sold for 4500 dollars and I was sold for 5,000. (Sorry removed a misspelled word) Only the higher ups at cps get involved because its a hush hush thing. If op goes to cps, they need to go as high as they can with as much evidence as they can. They will be silenced.

Years of mental and emotional abuse from parents using a little girl to help appearances. we met back up through a lot of struggle 5 years ago. Happy to say we are now both happy and safe. But I will never be silent about our story and what they did. This. Stuff. Is. Real.

My mother in law sold my sister in law to a pedo for 50$ so she could get drugs . It’s such a horrible situation and all the siblings have mental health problems obviously. We don’t talk to any of the family but his grandma who got my husband at 8 years old. It’s a mess

She got closure, which can be an essential part of the healing process. There is no obligation to keep having contact and could be detrimental to both of them. But I do think she did the right thing in meeting him. Now, she doesn't have to wonder.

I worked in child protection for years. Incredulous laughter is a really normal emotional reaction. And dark humour as a form of processing becomes the norm (rightly or wrongly).
I look at it this way, because I have the exact same reaction and completely understand how some of the most hilarious comedian often struggle with sadly depression or have other background in their lives that you wouldn’t expect, so I feel it is absolutely valid to laugh at the bewildering insanity and/or stupidity and/or escalating levels of an unimaginable tangential lack of any real attachment to the existence of the reality within which we all exist, of horrible people doing if it weren’t so evil sometimes making hilariously Bond villain level “lifestyle decisions” entirely and on an everyday basis- that woman in the OP’s post not obviously being one of that kind but still inexplicably comedically living as an normal appearing human without an entire cerebral cortex to explain that level of advanced biological functioning 🤷🏻♀️💕💕 Its the distinction that you aren’t in any way at all laughing at the VICTIMS OR MAKING LIGHT OF THAT EVKL SITUATION OR ITS OFTEN UNTHINKABLY NIGHTMARISH CONSEQUENCES, you’re laughing at the actual evil that is actually guilty of that entire cataclysm and therefore unconsciously kind of invalidating any superiority or even actual equivalency as a human being on their victims and the rest of the existence of life on this planet (and even universally lol if you want to get all existential about it too 🤷🏻♀️💕🌌🤣)
As a child in third grade we listened when our principal came into class and told us about the death of JFK. The kid in the dest to my left looked around and giggled, and I was shocked. Later I did learn about nervous laughter.
I wholeheartedly agree him stringing you along and making you think he's ready to marry you was about the worst thing he's done it would have been different if he had told you 2 years ago when you were being engaged telling you on the day of the wedding that is all kinds of messed up
All these stories were something else. The first one was so wild I couldn’t believe this actually happened. The last story was a bit different but I do get why J did what he did and I applaud him for making things right in the end and coming clean. That doesn’t absolve him of what he did, just makes it more understandable for why he did those things.
First story: Besides being terrifying, I'm also baffled by the sheer stupidity of these people. If you are going to do something illegal, don't do it in public forums like facebook or your job. I feel like Mary's other kids was also taken away because she can't be trusted with children. Even if she didn't abuse them, buying a child is absolutely a reason to be taken away by CPS.
Last story: Yeah I don't understand why J didn't tell her the truth. As OP said, she didn't like his family and would've helped him cut ties with the family dealing with the drugs and his sexuality. Plus they would have not spent all the money on the wedding and the honeymoon. Instead he cheated on her and left her heartbroken. If he considered her his best friend, he should've told her. I’m just happy he didn’t go through with the marriage, though he should have been honest with her sooner. But I also understand that he had his own issues that prevented him from doing so. Luckily, OP ended with who she’s with. And I hope they both find that happy ending.
I remember seeing a documentary once about adoption in the US, where they showed that many kids from outside the country were open for adoption against the mother's wishes and often really traumatized by being ripped out of their families. Then when they get to the US, they don't fulfill the impossible expectations of their new adoptive parents.
Re-Homing certainly is a thing, and it's disgusting.
I remember reading a story years ago about this child rehoming weirdness. And to no ones surprise, some kids were rehomed to molestors.

That re-homing story is the craziest story I've heard in this channel so far. I was in complete disbelief when I listen to it.
That first story is gut wrenching! Those poor kids. It’s vile and disgusting. Anyone involved should get an automatic life in prison sentence, no parole.
Story 1 my heart goes out to Tony and those children and I hope they are safe and in a loving home away from Mary and her husband. I hope this story ends with Mary and her husband spending the rest of the lives in jail cause God know how long they’ve been human trafficking and how many other kids would have been in or were in Tony’s situation if OP didn’t say anything.
What’s terrifying is that Tony probably has family in Ukraine that wants him, but because of the war it could be very difficult to find them.

A friend of mine has a software engineer position for a company in another country. The only thing she's obligated to do is inform them on her location when she needs some hardware for a project and attend meetings at certain times. So far she worked from every continent and aside from once when she was in rural China, she never had any problems with that. She meets her deadlines, she attends her meetings, and she always got the hardware she needed for testing and sent it back when she was done. I can't see why other companies are this restrictive about offsite working.

What I don't get about working from home controversies is why it matters?
If someone could do their job well remotely, get all their daily tasks done and sorted, and maintain confidentiality when it occurs, why would anyone give a damn about where an employee is working from. If I had a worker on a sunny beach still manage to do their work, excellent!
I can do my job from anywhere that has decent cell service and since I live about 900 miles from all my friends, working vacations are a couple times a year thing for me.

There was a big scandal several years ago about older children adopted from former USSR who had all kinds of disassociative disorders being fobbed off on unsuspecting US adopters. These children were traded, given away and sold when they became too much for their new parents to handle. It might even be how Mary got some or all of her kids. Always be wary of international adoptions and their legality. It costs more, but make sure you are working with agencies sanctioned by your government and with good reviews and referrals.
The fact she was so casual about illegally “rehoming” an illegally acquired child suggests these weren’t her first offences. Often when long-term criminals experience enough success, they gradually begin to think that, because they were never caught before, they never will; which can lead to carelessness.

ok for the child trafficking, i was born in nyc--when I was born my father jokingly asked the dr how much he thought he could get for me and the doctor quickly replied that they don't do that anymore. my dad was joking but he told me how dead serious the doctor was; i don't think that i'll ever get over this story due to the implications, namely that, within the doctor's lifetime, a well respected nyc hospital had a history of selling babies and that doctor knew that they no longer did that--not that they never did anything like that, but that they "no longer" could buy babies.

Being with someone OP trusted when meeting the ex was the safe option, but it was also the healthiest option to agree to the meeting so that now OP can process the entirety of what happened to her instead of always having unknowns involved. It doesn't make what the ex did OK, and it's good he recognizes that too, but OP needed to know to truly be able to heal. Sometimes we don't get answers like that, but when you can, even if it makes things worse, things will be better in the long run for knowing.

That work from home policy rings a bell. My boyfriend works remote tech support for a well known contracting company and they have a wfh policy that’s extremely strict. He had to ask for approval to be allowed to work from a different location when we were evacuated for a hurricane kind of strict. They have to see pictures of your workspace and approve it in order to work there. I’m not techy so I don’t know how it works, but they track their location and can get fired or disciplined if they log in from anywhere besides home without approval. They recently doubled down on this policy and had a zoom meeting that included the ceo and cto talking about why this policy exists and why it’s “so important to only log in from home!” While the ceo was sitting on the beach. Clearly visible and with no sense of the irony.
As an adopted child this disgusts me. My sister (also adopted) was a bit of a troublemaker and I had issues adapting to new situations. My parents loved us unconditionally and I've graduated university while my sister is going to be a teacher. It's repulsive. You don't rehome children. If you weren't ready for the stress and difficulty of raising a child, you shouldn't be a parent.

Last place I worked, one of the bosses basically went from site to site on a regular basis, and those sites weren't even in the same city, so obviously when she worked from "Home", it was often in a hotel, or second house.
As such, She didn't care if the employees were effectively working in the hotel room while on holiday, as long as they logged in and did work... Which, didn't actually happen, but people did often Work from home the day before a vacation, to give them more time to pack, or whatever.
I work remotely as does most of our company. When people want to go elsewhere, but still work, we work with them to adjust their schedule appropriately. As long as the work is getting done no one cares where you are at.

I have my own, "Honey, I'm Gay" moment. In my early 20's, I had only had gay relationships at that point, and for a while, tried to pretend to be heterosexual for my Mom's sake. She was a paradoxical liberal Irish Catholic, though I'd never heard her once say anything anti-gay or homophobic. I also wasn't out to my co-workers yet. Not 3 blocks from my work, was an aging, cringe-worthy strip club. Literally I think it was called The Wet Beaver Inn - note, it wasn't an Inn at all, but what kind of resembled what used to be one of those 50's style diners someone converted into a strip-joint. I went only so my co-workers would see me go there and assume I was just single and looking to mingle. It was there I met what I can say with complete honesty was my only serious girlfriend. Her story was virtually identical to mine. Working as a stripper, the girls backstage really hated lesbians. Not in a mainstream homophobic way, but in that way that Wrestlers don't like the idea of knowing a gay teammate is sharing a locker room. She said the girls loathed being in the dressing room with a lesbian, because they already got leered at all day as it was, and the dressing room was meant to feel like a sanctuary. They'd grown to suspect her of being a lesbian, and were about to go to the boss to have her fired for a bunch of trumped-up things if their suspicions were confirmed. When we met, she chose me as her "beard". I had chosen her as mine, with neither of us telling the other that this was what it was all about.
I collapsed on the couch, and just laughed the night away. We hugged it out, snuggled, and we agreed that both of us would be happier in the long run if we split. So we split. I met her girlfriend, and she was fantastic. It was like she was a female clone of me. I wished her well, and went to chase my new boyfriend. That boyfriend? We've been married 16 years now.
I follow a lot of adoptees rights Twitter accounts and "rehoming" is disgustingly too common. Not every parent, obviously, but more common than you'd home for. There are FB groups dedicated to it from what I've heard

The first story mom sounds like she adopted a ton of kids and became part of a strong faith so that she can appear nicer than she really is. She can't take responsibility but she's trying to make it look better to make herself look like a saint. It's status.
While what the guy in the last story did was heinous, I do give him props for manning up, apologizing, and behaving maturely in the end. I think she did the right thing because having that closure is important I think. An important thing to remember is that you can forgive without forgetting.

Admittedly, I don't value people more than animals, so when she said she wants to re-home him I figured it would be by putting him back up for adoption (through the proper means), not straight up trying to traffic him.
What she did was straight up trying to publicly traffic a kid, there was no way she would of gotten away with that one.
3 felonies.... 1 illegal adoption. 2 taking them across state lines. 3 trying to "rehome" Tony. Even with pets rehoming usually has a fee.
Story1: I bet the coworker adopts or fosters kids to get paid and found she wasn't getting paid for the newest kid. Or maybe he was genuinely unhappy with her. I bet she was abusive. I'm also getting the vibe that it wasn't a legal adoption. Most foreign children are not available within the US for adoption and parents usually have to go to another country to adopt them and deal with the US embassy. They also are not allowed to leave the country for weeks or even months before the adoption becomes official (my father used to help people with foreign adoptions and oversee to make sure people weren't kidnapping or buying children). I know someone who was adopted by a career foster parent. The foster parent was verbally, physically, and emotionally abusive to the kids. She's a narcissist who would pit them against each other in competition for her "love". She also was collecting social security for them & not spending it on them and refusing to take them to doctors even when they were still minors. When one of the girls (at 19yrs old) decided to leave to escape the abuse, she sent another older foster child (who was in her 20s) to go "find her, beat her ass, & drag her back home by her hair". Fortunately the foster sister didn't find her. The 19-yr old had a sister cousin (incest alert) who was 1 yr older. The adopted mom turned the kids against the older one when she moved out at 18. And even when the older sistercousin was in her 20s, she called up her employer and demanded the employer send the paychecks to her and threatened to forcibly drag the girl back to her trailer. She also demanded the social security checks. The only reason she was mad that the girl I know moved out was bc she couldn't get her social security anymore.
A child being exchanged across state lines is trafficking and is absolutely the FBI's jurisdiction! It is a federal crime! Mary used a work e-mail to advertise trafficking of a child-- pretty sure Ange was within her rights to fire her over that. I absolutely believe Mary tried to sell Tony. My dad dealt with human trafficking a LOT in his career. It's the reason why the child separation policy was originally made with INS-- it was only to separate children from abductors/traffickers and/or abusive guardians. Legally, children could only be separated if they were not accompanied by adult family members or legal guardians. The system used to separate immigrant children from their parents was breaking the law & they had to list the kids in the computer system as "unaccompanied" in order to get away with it and that is part of why they didn't have the connection to parents to put families back together. They also shipped a lot of the kids off to Betsy Devos' bs "adoption" agency which was just another front for human trafficking.
Story2: Wow, what a jerk that boss is! At least he acknowledges that work from home is still work. In line at the pharmacy I overheard a teacher complaining that she couldn't go into work bc of Covid quarantine-- she'd been exposed-- and was told she had to work from home-- do zoom meetings, make up itinerary, grade papers, etc but was considered to be "not working" and was expected to do all this off the clock and not get paid for it. That kind of bs enrages me. You're not in space? LIES! LOL.

The last story really hit home for me. Whereas I can definitely see wanting to cut him from your life, I have lived dang close to the same life as op's ex. I don't do drugs. But I was closeted gay/trans since I was a kid. I grew up in a highly Catholic family, was the only girl of 5 kids, and had a severely homophobic mother who is currently 68 years old (I'm 33, so you can see the generation gap). I was forced to date guys. When it came to the guys wanting to move forward, I'd come out and say the truth. I'm still great friends with a majority of my exes for that reason. I finally put my foot down 5 years ago and told my mom. She said it was just a phase and I'd grow out of it like I did my goth phase that hit when I was 15. Sorry mom, but I'm married to a wonderful woman and she is fully supportive of my transition, and yes I'm also still goth 🤣 my mom is finally coming around, but only because my youngest brother is also gay. I'm glad he won't have to go through what I went through. I do feel bad that my mom didn't get to have her daughters dream wedding. But we still had my dad walk me down the aisle as well, and I got TWO dances, one with my dad and one with my mom. I kept my given name, and my wife and I accept that I will always be she with my parents. Hiding who you are so you don't lose your family is sadly more common than people think. I really feel for op's ex because it is a very hard way to live. I had anger problems and depression for years until I was finally able to be myself. And yes, even my parents noticed this. So I can see why he turned to drugs and cheating to cope with it. I get that others can't. It's one of those things you really have to feel to understand. My mom is still trying to understand. I got lucky that I still have her and that we've worked hard to rebuild everything we lost. I get that op is hurt. I do. It really sucks. But if I were op, knowing what happened to me, I'd stay and support the ex to help them get clean and stay clean despite the pain. I'm not saying she should, just what I would have done.
Regarding that last story...I find that I can't be angry at that guy. Given the cards he was dealt, he had a lot to deal with. And, he definitely handled it wrong. He even hurt a lot of people and himself while getting it wrong.
But, given the world we live in and the troubles he faced, I have trouble blaming him. And, I can respect him for putting forth the effort to turn his life around and make things as right as possible.
Yeah... mental health can and do destroy people. Was the guy wrong? Sure. But is it understandable? Yes.
I actually think OP did the right thing in meeting with the ex. Just that once. It clearly allowed her to fully let go of the past. To understand why things turned out the way they did. People think forgiving someone is the same as giving them a pass for their actions. But that's not it. Forgiveness is about freeing yourself from those who have hurt you. They are still accountable, they just have no power over you anymore.
In this case, the ex did hurtful things but he wasn't an abuser. So, meeting him gave OP closure. Which _is_ important.
I sorta felt bad for the guy, even though he did something that i personally consider to be vile.

I really hope this poor boy gets back to his real family, if possible...or to a family that will care for and about him at very least...and that these sad excuses for human beings, that think it's actually okay to give away/sell a kid they "adopted" never get the other kids back and never have the chance to get their hands on any others. It's really bad when CPS immediately removes all the children in a home...lots of trauma all around.
