Hilarious when you were surprised when the disc was flat. The website had curved ones in the listing, and you actually got what you ordered.
Came here to say this...
yep, he should have bought the 3 piece set instead. would have been half as dissapointing, haha
Yeah, I was watching it back to be sure and put it in the comments, but I sure wasn't the only one who notest 😅
Came to say exactly same thing. I have these, works normal if you are lazy.
Apologies if someone else brought up this point already (didn't find it in the comments), but I think "Saker" is how some folks say "sucker".
Great video David.
i dont know if its related but ´´saker´´ in swedish means stuffs
David, I think you missed the option on the grinding wheel. They did have options that said "Bevel Wood Grinding Disc", "Arc Wood Carving Disc", and "3PCS/SET". I'm sure you would have loved the set and thrown the Turbo Plane away. 😁
These vids have suspense and are hilarious.
Thanks for taking the time and $$'s. JimE
Also, he completely missed that it was "Saker" branded too.
Believe it or not, I have A domed version and it works surprisingly well. I compared it to my Kutzall discs.
When you bought it their were three options, I chose the flat one, and that is what you got
Yeah. I agree. The bevel option was there. It would have been cooler to have a better comparison
I appreciate how the T-square works in three dimensions.
The cheese grater disc was also Saker in the description on that site, but you would need one of the spacers for an angle grinder and the low profile lock nut to get that thing close to working. It will make a nice anti slip coaster or a heavy duty washer for a bolt that acts as a lock washer 😂.
You bought the flat disc for the angle grinder. They had curved ones on there too. You'd also be just fine without the guard with that as well, there's pretty close to 0 chance of a catch, just with the way it cuts... I'd never use the turboplane without a guard though.
thanks for keeping the blade guard on. it always grinds my gears when people use angle grinders without them on video, someone bound to copy them and get seriously hurt.
Sometimes it's necessary to do so.
sure thing, but a for a majority of tasks it isnt. And what the instances I had in mind when writing the original comment were situations where you do not need to remove the guard to actually accomplish your task, yet people took them off anyway.@@RalphVB
I'm a CNC machinist at Woodpeckers, and I took the job because I love using their products, and I've developed a relationship with all of the engineers, and most of them buy the Chinese copies of their products just to see how bad they are. FYI, they're ALWAYS really bad
Does W/P make products at a limited number and then that’s it for that product?
@@Larry.Luciano what we do, is we make a couple of prototypes, then we make a video that advertises the product
@@Larry.Luciano sorry, I cut myself off. Once we advertise a product, it goes on sale, and we'll make about 15% more parts than we have orders for. There are a few products that don't sell particularly well, and they never get brought back whereas other tools we seem to make every 6 months, and some get turned into permanent products that we keep in stock at all times
Well hope you make about 1000000 dollars an hour to justify their pricing lol ...just sayin man....
Oh man this had me howling throughout. Listened to the podcast recently and so I knew this was coming and boy it didn’t disappoint 😂😂😂
Thank you so much for sharing- love this stuff every now and then in amongst your rebuilds of old games etc.
It wasn't a Facebook ad, but I was looking for a source for T-track. Clear Style's website was broken to the point where you couldn't buy the product, and trying to e-mail them went nowhere. So I found what appeared to be a clearance website (that's how I interpreted it), that was selling their products. So I dropped $130 on several 4' lengths as well as some accessories. A month later, I got this little jewel box with a $10 trinket. I was PISSSSED. Then I did a WHOIS look up on the domain (which was no longer up days later) and the domain had only been up for a month. Served me right for thinking I was getting a killer deal on T-track. At least my CC company reversed the charges..
I was so mad though, that instead of trying to buy T-track elsewhere, I created my own version using 1/8" by 3/4" flatbar steel. My project table actually kicks ass because of it. And it cost me about $50 to do a grid on a 3'x6' project table.
“THats what your mom wanted the most!”. Thats so awesomely mean and hilarious. Especially when you start squeezing. Too funny.
5:50 That Uiern ad shows a "loose" tape measure as an example of how you need their "super precise" measuring tool. Tape measures have a small amount of travel at the end to account for the thickness of the metal clip so that you can measure using the inner and outer edge correctly
And I watched ALL the way to end, just to see the magic thumbs.....but no magic thumbs 😐
😂🤣😂🤣
I love how excited you were with the 1 item, voice kept going higher & higher 🤣😂
The lighted thumbs are a modified "thumb tip" which magicians use. Once you learn how to use them and add some showmanship...they are a blast at Christmas time. If you were to get a pair, get the from a magic shop.
I wanted one of those protractor\t-square combos but I'm reeeeaaaaly glad I didn't take a chance. 😅 Thanks for doing it for us!
Same.
Just get one of the kreg miter gauges at that point and then you can use it on the table saw too
@@noodlelynoodle. I did actually end up buying a similar miter gauge for my table saw!
@@jamesromanchik nice we had one at the cabinet shop I worked at and seeing this I was like wait that's basically the exact same thing as the kreg miter fence but with without the usability in the slot in the table saw and crap quality lol
The Saker Facebook add I saw had Matt Estlea embedded into it. Also, Bounth is what Tigger from Winnie the pooh does... 😁
Thank you for your sacrifices :)
That grinding blade is super sketch!!
1st thing that came to mind was "Air Disasters" aka "Mayday" that explained the UA 232 accident- metallurgical defect of turbine disk.
Massive titanium alloy disc breaks apart and cuts hydraulic lines.
I'm just imagining that blade breaking apart as it's spinning and it goes right through the person's liver!
That "Magic Thumb" is a magic trick called D'Lite and it can blow people's minds if used correctly.
When you bought the grinder wheel, the title on the item listing also started off with Saker. Also the screengrab showing the knurled knob on the angle ruler is from woodpeckers product video.
Thanks for this David! I was thinking about the saker chamfer plane and the ruler that measures around corners! Not anymore thanks to you taking a hit for the team and saving me some cash and frustration!
I am quite disappointed that you did not receive the 'magic thumb'. I can just see you or Dangerous Dan wearing that around the shop. I agree with Dan. Measuring around corners is a feature that is purty unique. I always miss seeing project videos, because you create such interesting items, but I have to say that I have enjoyed watching these 'scam videos'.
Thanks for a fun video.
Thanks for taking one for the team! Cracked up at the T-square! :)
i'm a big... "fan" of this series
I was just noticing on the edge plane you got it was missing the brass knob on the side to keep the blade from moving around. That’s why it was loose.
I am overly sad that the magic thumb didn’t arrive. That is one of the most important woodworking tools out there! And the edge angle gauge, wow, that was some quality gadget. I think that the company would have been better off not shipping you anything. Thanks for the video.
These videos are great. Love the "calling out" on the barrage of adds that we all receive. Also makes me mad that so many people spend their time and energy just trying to "steal" from trusting people who may not be able to afford bigger brand name tools.
Your blue shirt and red hat are giving off some major Papa Smurf vibes! I dig it!
I love how Uiern showed a tape measure wiggle as a flaw in accuracy.. It's *supposed* to do that so you can use it pushed up against something or pulling from something 😂.
That grinding wheel in their ad was rounded like the turboplane.
Dude went full infomercial with the grinder blade 😂
Thanks for this. I was actually looking at getting the saker chisel sharpening guide. And this helped me
I chuckled the moment I saw the fan from the first video on the table, and then every time you went back to the table. I've really enjoyed these two scam videos.
Your humor makes the video so much better, and you have the knowledge to make junk use full if you don't like it neither do, we.
"That's a lit thumb!" I lost it there
I saw that lift table vid!
Could watch a whole series of these videos, please keep making them
David, I always enjoy your videos, even if they’re not entirely of woodworking, you are an awesome content creator 👍👍!!!
Thanks David as I needed a freaking good laugh today! So glad that you got SCAMMED! 😂😂😂
Hilarious angle gage! So the depth/finger jig (magic thumb), and the cart were 100% scams, and the rest except maybe the sharpening jog, were junk.
Thanks for the laughs man!
I haven't watched a woodworking video in ages so I don't know how this ended up on my recommended, but I'm sure glad it did. This is hilarious, thanks for the great content!
Crazy. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep Making. God bless.
I bought the sharing guide, the tracking number never worked. But in about 2 weeks it actually showed up. Not a bad tool! Small width chisels are not long enough but the larger ones worked well. Haven't tried a plane iron yet.
I've bought a contour gauge from Saker and I'm pretty convinced by it. It is the only contour gauge I could find that has a clamp to clutch the contour securely.
"Mad-Sus Shopping" I'm glad the previous one was successful so you could do more of this. It's great.
When you order hundreds dollars of stuff and looking forward to the magic thumb the most. 🤣
Have seen those "Saker" sites here in Sweden too. In swedish "saker" means "things" or "stuff", so that kind of makes sense, like "Smart things" and "Shop stuff". I was convinced they where just crappy translations, but now I'm confused!
Nice projects. The mallet being my favorite
I really enjoy this series! I hope you continue to make more of these videos! Thanks for wasting your money for our entertainment!
I’d love a gag where you keep putting on safety gear like that Key & Peele sketch with the dueling hats. Thanks for this video 🔥 🔥 🔥
My one experience with Temu was accidental. A video on FB offered an automatic version of a Buck 110 knife, supposedly made in the US. The thing turned out to ship from China to TEMU in California, to me. It was NOT automatic, even though the invoice said that's what I'd ordered. The knife seemed high quality, but I'd overpaid, expecting the automatic version. It doesn't have a mark for country of manufacture, nor for the type of steel, other than "stainless."
I reported the problem and they offered a shipping-label refund. I counter-offered to keep it if they refunded the difference. I could only get the same robotic boilerplate letter in reply, again offering the return/refund, minus $6 shipping, so I accepted that. We'll see how that goes.
I'm far from impressed with TEMU. I plan to avoid ever buying from them again.
Saker is the Swedish word for stuff or things.
My dad had one of those fake thumbs back in the late 90's. He would use it with the grandkids and they loved it! Would have been a great purchase!
I bet you could use the chamfer plane's cutter heads to make lathe chisels.
Put em into a steel shaft with a couple set screws with a handle and re-grind the tips into more lathe friendly shapes.
Facebook should be accountable for refunds on garbage products sold and non delivery of purchases!
So happy you purchased the ruler 😅😅 I was about to get it 😆😆😆
This was just as hilarious as the first video thanks for doing these videos and sharing your experience and showing people how to look for these scams
Im sure you have seen someone use the magic thumb :D the trick where you pour salt into your hand, make it 'vanish' and then catch it and pour it out of nowhere, thats done by pouring the sand into a fake thumb :P
Ok , I am going backwards on viewing these SCAM and internet tools , amazing stuff , but who , how do you yank the scammers out of the world of internet? love the show
Rockler's sharpening guide is 15.99...yours must be twice as good! Fun video...thanks!
The ads for this stuff are fairly well done. I guess we need to consider where these tools are made. Thanks for testing these out for us so that we don’t get scammed. 😉
Where they're made isn't what makes a difference cause china can make stuff the same quality as the us if they're paid to, but they're also willing to produce something for like 1/8th the price it's just going to be 1/8th the quality and most companies doing drop shipping like this are going to be getting the cheapest version of stuff they can typically to improve how much they're making on it
Now I know why I never joined facebooger . I had no idea that fb allowed that type of advertising.. Thanks for the info
I was struck by how the "grater" holes on the grinding wheel didn't go all the way through. Even if it was beveled, how would it not clog? Thanks for another entertaining "I got scammed" video.
The real name brand of the magic thumb is D'Lite... Just in case your mom wanted to know 😁
"we've all heard of Bounth. We trust Bounth, don't we?" 😂😂😂
With the chisel sharpening guide and planer, I'm betting it was a manufacturer's defect with the threads being cut the wrong way. I've seen similar products before. So, basically, the first batch was a full manufacturing run with the threads laid out backwards. When it was discovered, the designers shifted the merchandise off to a company like this so they can still get a return on the product, but the fact that the threads were cut backwards doesn't detract from the original product or company. I had a really funny experience when I bought a pack of cheap bits that were good quality, but, and this was the funniest thing ever, they were cut backwards. So, I had to drill in reverse.
I keep seeing these ads in Facebook for cordless tool sets, all sorts of brands and usually $49.00 for a 10 piece set of Dewalt and the like, I wonder who falls for these, the websites they link to look good but they can't be real
Great video! Very fun to watch!
The "high quality tools" ads are ALWAYS just Woodpeckers ads/videos, but they're selling a knock-off...if you even get it when you order it. I've seen the same with things like hair clippers. They'll show clippers that cost $250 in the video, but again, knock-off.
The Saker contour gauges are actually some of the best I’ve ever used.
From a Shopify owner here that is not the last day of them sales on the sites just a marketing strategy to get you to buy!
I've only ever bought one thing from a facebook add knowing full well to not trust them. It was for a jacket. The site seemed legit and they even tell you to order a size up from what you normally wear. Placed an order and got a jacket as advertised. Only complaint I have is I wish it was longer as I have a long torso. Other than that its cozy and keeps me dry. That protractor is straight out of a cereal box lol!
"We share the same mother" is a 'your mom' joke in and of itself.
🤣
Leaving this comment at 6:39. I own two of those T-squares and they're pretty good. I got them from a local pallet auction business, so they were ultra cheap, but they're accurate and pretty durable.
Now I'm really interested to see if that's what gets delivered later in the video.
23:16 EDIT: It's supposed to be in a nice cardboard box. That looks really fishy.
24:02: Yep, you got ripped off.
Not only Facebook, but CZcams is happy to provide ads that of you followed through with them, they are nothing but a scam.
😂that was so much fun. But the truth is, everyone on here has got played at least once by one of these scams. I’m still laughing… 😂
Hey Jeff Loose, happy belated birthday!
We absolutely need a follow-up video if the magic thumb Congress in LOL!
I bought one of those protector rulers and yeah absolute junk. The red part in mine was made of poorly cut plywood and of course the picture showed what looked like aluminum. None of the stops were accurate and the angles were off too.
I am a magician. The thumb is a knock off of a gimmick called D'Lite. If routine is right it is a good bit. Example would be a red laser light shines in an object and you reach over and it looks like you picked it up. Pick a light off a Christmas tree. Good stuff
Ahh! Had no idea. Thank you!
Saker is unterfargar for pouch, also its taragi for reverse threaded.
Man, David, Facebook tried to sell me that lift table so hard. I'm 250 episodes into Making It, listening from the beginning, so I'm 3 years behind on your video production. Your audio is always so good. In a video like this where you're talking to the camera what kind of mic are you using? Are you really good at hiding a lav? Is it a shotgun? (If you ever need something else to keep you busy, yeah right, you could add your video making tools to your website tools list. The content is the product, right?) Anyway, thanks for being great! Keep it up.
Thanks! I'm using a Rode Go II lav mic under my shirt.
If you look closely (although not THAT closely), you'll notice that the ad for the chisel sharpening guide shows clips of Matt Estlea. I'm pretty sure he hasn't endorsed it. I may be wrong, but I seriously doubt it.
I bought one of those magic thumb magic tricks back in highschool. I was flying back from Japan and thanks to a scheduling issue with planes I had a 10 hour overlay, so I bought some dumb things in the air port to entertain myself
The angle grinder disc was Saker, too.
Not sure if you planned it but, you look like Papa Smurf with the blue shirt and red hat! lol!
dude the last one robe you really good
Hey Dude, the threads are backwards because it came from the other side of the planet, kinda like a toilet when it's flushed from down under...it goes backwards and down it goes! Just a funny guess. Love the review😂
Very nice, i love these videos. Don't forget Jeff Loose's birthday today!
Thanks for telling us all what we already knew. Facebook sucks, don't buy anything off of Facebook. In fact just go ahead and cancel your account while you are at it.
Lol, the proper use of PPE... To clear chips, 😂
the grinder disc would've worked better if you used it correctly. being flat, its clearly not meant to be used on flat surfaces to gouge out wood. it worked quite well when you used it on the edge of the log
That different feeling from the grinding disc? It’s a gyroscope due to the weight it will resist moving
Righty tighty, lefty loosey. Great video, I hate those facebook ads.
Actually the "reverse thread" makes sense... turn it ccw and the blade goes up, because when the tool is on the piece of wood, turn up, blade goes up, turn down, blade goes down..
it goes the opposite way off all my planes.🤷♂️
Give it a few more weeks, I'm sure that magic thumb will show up eventually!!
How Facebook allows this to go on is beyond me. I will never order anything from their site. It's a shame because sometimes there's some pretty cool stuff.
Harbor freight has a grinding disc for ten or fifteen dollars that works really well.
You can use the one Saker thing to sharpen the other Saker thing... well, only one of them.
Just checked Alli they sell light up thumbs I am going to get 1 for my consultant check-up lol
