I'm taking on the challenge of hand crafting every piece of furniture for my house, starting with a pair of super modern floating nightstands for the bedroom. I delve into the complete process, from selecting materials like a sheet of plywood and beautiful walnut for edge banding, to overcoming stability issues and employing various woodworking techniques. I demonstrate cutting, gluing, and using a router for precise joinery, as well as integrating a French cleat system for wall mounting. Throughout the project, I share useful tips and tricks, such as creating clean cuts in plywood and using clamps effectively. The video also covers my design process and how I draw inspiration for my projects. In the end, I hope this video makes you want to try making your own nightstands, just like mine or with your own creative touch!

You link doesn't really work, I can sign up but you don't get the credit
Fixed. Thanks! @@tammybrazeau1213
Actually stumpy is the one who talked me into watching this channel. When I first saw Dave I hated him. I am a grumpy old man stuck in a 30 year old body and hipsters just irritate the hell out of me. I thought he was just a lame ass hipster . More CZcamsr than woodworker. But I am glad I gave him another chance he’s entertaining very smart with his projects n a good woodworker.
I would like to give you bonus points for giving Mr. James Hamilton (Stumpy Nubs) a shout out. He's good people!
Absolutely agree. 😊
Thought there was going to be a link to stumpy nubs video on using router table to make 45 degree cuts?
@@BradRemillard same. I came here looking for the link

Love that you had UHF playing in the shop!
UHF is such a great movie. Nice problem solving showing multiple outcomes. You get to drink from the fire hose!
You get to drink from the firehose!
@@KyleVeatch Michael Richards in this is basically a character study for his work on Seinfeld! Hilarious.
How do you know we are old? When you recognize that you are playing the Weird Al Yankovic masterpiece UHF on your TV in the background. As usual, great build video!
I admit i've never heard of UHF. I freaked out for a second thinking "hold on hold on, there's no way Fran Drescher was in temple of doom". imdb sleuthing ended me up at UHF
@@AlexanderElse UHF is a must see in my opinion
I absolutely love UHF! Such a fun movie. Remember watching this a bunch of times with my dad as a kid. Also love that Emo Phillips scene. Especially when he is mocking Weird a bit at the beginning.
My suggestion: Imbed angle brackets typically used to support extended counters. Route the back and bottom so it’s flush and can’t be seen.
One of my favorite movies, it’s dumb, but so many good one liners
Getting the screw started before drilling. That’s the handiest thing I’ve learned from this channel. 😅
"French Cletus"...from rural France, obviously😂. Another great walnut video! Thank You, sir!
What is Weird Al for the win, Alex! Great shelves David!
UHF - you're such a legend. Saw one of your older videos the other day which had tge Spatula City advert, love it.
Was that weird Al, love your vids bro they make me feel good and laugh and that's what I needed right now
I love this series. I love makers that actually make things. Too many makers have just moved on to making videos talking about tools or work benches, instead of actually making something. This channel is all about making something. CHEERS!
I'm so hyped for this series! Looking awesome!
Dave I am so excited for this series! Thanks for taking us along for the journey!
That’s my mop!! Nice design change to support the shelf!
PLEASE DO NOT STOP. I love the way how you keep these kind of videos until now. I love the short and long videos. Other youtuber/woodworker stopped doing videos like this and they ended-up with crappy videos. It shows that it is not their passion to teach and entertain. I remember that you mentioned that you are not really a woodworker but a video maker. I disagree on you with that. You are a woodworker, teacher, entertainer and a video maker. Hats-off and salute to you! I wish you more power, to your channel and to your other endeavors.
♥️♥️♥️
Omg. You at the table saw. Your shop looks so cool. The aesthetics screams fun!
The nightstands turned out amazing. Can’t wait to see everything else you build for the house
I love the house and look forward to your videos and you fill it with your creations!
Simply a great looking project. Love this channel.
Love this design and execution.
Amazing, the second video on floating night stands today in my subscription list. Fishers shop released a video of him making some modified from design his wife sent of some made by DIYHuntress.
Not complaining I like the different takes on them. And the different host styles.
Nice job David, love how you matched the grain, sweet.
Love the nightstands they look great. Nice job David.
Beautiful design, David! Great adaptation to your original design!
I’m loving this new house series
Looks amazing 😍😍😍
Great looking Lt Dan shelf
I love what you are doing, David. Great project and vid. The house as a saeries and art gallery is a fantastic idea!
Funnest projects ever!!!
Great video on a fun project
I am a huge fan of mid-century modern so I am super glad you are doing this series. I look forward to all the episodes and furniture designs you come up with. What a great idea you had, I think it will be a big success. Maybe I'll be able to stay in that house after it is finished.
Nice work
I love your night hangs.
It's beautiful.
Really cool idea! We will be visiting for sure.
I really like the handle design, it brings it all together.
Thank you @makesomething for including other was to do stuff, it is always helpful but this time, you saved my butt. I was about to crosscut panels to final length and found out my cheap track saw is cutting way off the line/splinter guard. The tip about using miter gauge in reverse was what I needed. It was such a coincidence to watch your video just before heading to the shop.
Nice design and build
I like the added arc shelf supports,l. I think they help bring the two parts together nicely. Also excellent movie choice. Red snapper, good fish. Thanks for sharing!
Scoring the plywood before the through cut; that's a great tip👍👍
This is great
I am really glad to hear that you are still liking the crosscut sled extension you made. It looks so awesome.
Very nice they look great and a great idea
Night Hangs look great.
Very cool! This is a fun video series - I'm looking forward to more!!
Excellent movie on in the background!
Amazing work, those really look great. This series is going to be 🔥🔥!
How awesome 💖💖
What a nice idea! I just finished my own floating nightstands and saw your video immediately after that. Very very cool idea 😎👏
French cleats can make wiring tricky. It can be a good idea to leave a gap.
That was beautiful, and I want to thank you for Milanote. I just took a quick peek at it and it looks like the way my brain works ❤😅
Well, now I have to dig out my UHF dvd. After the video of course!
Excellent design David! Looking forward to what you come up with next. I hope that you and your family have a very nice Turkey Day! 👍👍🦃🦃
Awesome to see how you problem solved this floating nightstand. It would be interesting to see, knowing the end result now, how you would do all the joinery and glue ups if you were to make one again.
Stunning work, Dave! Amazing looking nightstands! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Bonjour, c'est tres beau !
Nice! The whole house thing is a good idea too. It would be cool making a project together too as you talked about
I legit forgot that "window" was not a real window. That's a really cool effect!
Great!
Excellent project, and love the series. Can't wait to see what comes next. Cool to see you also watching UHF on the shop TV! 😆 Emo Phillips is a genius.
Agreed!
dude. loving the overkill 🫡
"Drill some holes; pound some pegs" is my favourite.
These turned out great. Love floating furniture. Definitely the best one night stand I’ve ever seen lol. Also whale nuts haha! Keep up the good stuff!
Night floats!!
Huh. That Milanote looks pretty awesome actually. Oh, and your design is awesome too! 😁
Nice night-hang :)
(Yes I listen to the podcast)
I see beef coming between Clamp Champ Bob and Tape it Dave :D
As I sit here in front of the warm woodstove, pregaming for Turkey Day festivities, my wife peeped over and noticed your new nightstand. Now this stand has moved to the top of my honey dew list. Thanks Dave!
😁
I’m cursing myself for never thinking of that trick for miters. That makes so much more sense
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Thanks for another awesome video!
Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving!
I built some drawers on the weekend and reinforced them with dowels. The whole time i chanted "drill some holes, pound some pegs" my kids looked at me like I'd been sniffing varnish
i indeed as a woodworker love the band overkill. 🙂
UHF FTW!
Emo Phillips - comedic genius.
Love the front drawer (draw) pulls! Yes miter+fence+through cut =bad. I’d hate to have it go through my TV, ahem, I mean window too 😂
oh shit, I love UHF! I completely forgot that movie existed
Can't wait to get a new length of whale nuts to make some Christmas gifts. Great project David!!
Remember when you were afraid of routers.
You've come so far.
I am so proud of you.
still afraid!!
I was just about to comment about UHF, and then you beat me to it😅
Once again -- beautiful job, sir! I've gotta find a place in Northern VA that sells reasonably priced walnut ply.... Gotta go drill some holes & pound some pegs... Cheers!
They came up ripper ,if you’re doing more 45s on the router table, may I suggest a 45 degree lock mitre bit, plenty of gluing surface and a really strong joint ! 🙂
Wish I had your workshop instead of the front path of my house tiny house in Oxford England 🏴
Dave I want to come to the shop and work with you and Dan and learn stuff. I also really want you to teach me your resawing skills.
Love the nightstand. I actually am finishing up mine right now. It's my first bigger project. Used curly cherry and it looks beautiful.
congrats on your first bigger project! enjoy every moment of it. Thanks!
@makesomething me gustaría un curso de parte tuya trabajas muuuuy bonitos felicitaciones...
It would be cool if the loch ness monster appeared in your lake occasionally.
Love your channel! Been a fan for many years. Do you think that someday we can get a video about your sliding wall panel system in the back?
Thank you for the vid btw what finish did you use
You could totally buy a lock cutter router bit. This way the two pieces will lock together like a jigsaw piece, instead of having to use a piece of wood to reinforce the mitre. We Axcaliber make the bit I'm referring to, if they sell in the US
Funny, 30 minutes before watching this video, I was talking to someone about the movie "UHF." A real plate of shrimp moment. IYKYK.... Also, great project/video.
The number of times I forgot to get the screw started first. Good reminder.
Sure the side tables are nice. But UHF on the TV is even nicer
Came here for the wood project, stayed for UHF in tge background.
I love this series
@4:03 David! Really! Man letting it all hang out there! Many the things you will see in the internet 😅😅😅😅😂
When adding a spline to a long miter joint it would be stronger if you make the saw kerf closer to the inner side than in the center of the miter. Nice project though and I am sure will be inspiring to your viewers.
Really like the build, did I miss where you have posted a cut list?
spatula city! SPATULA CITY! SPATULA CITY!!!!
