      Great job I’d love to hear about the guys that have been acccused and even conflicted of murder or aggravated assault I.e. aqib talib guys like that. I heard Alvin Lamar’s had almost killed a man prior to NFL way before his pro bowl incident.. things like that are for me. • @codfishbricker
    @codfishbricker Před rokem +56

    The Chris Henry having no known concussions thing is scary in 2 different ways.
    1. As mentioned in the video, the notion that you don't need to receive these big concussions to end up with CTE
    2. He very well could have had numerous & they were just simply never caught or never reported (potentially to keep him in the game).
    As for the latter I know 0 diagnosed concussions doesn't always mean anywhere close to the truth. My folks never took head trauma seriously when I was growing up. It wasn't until I got a devastating concussion playing club rugby in college that I finally saw a doctor for a blow to the head. I told the club sports doctor prior hits to the head I had experienced including 3 KOs. He determined this had been my 7th concussion & I was medically retired immediately from all collision sports.

    • @flyingcapsicum
      @flyingcapsicum Před rokem +1

      That's a lot of incidents, I hope you're doing well. Yeah, the fact he had no diagnosed concussions doesn't mean he was never symptomatic, given how much head trauma has been ignored in sports codes. However, the really scary thing about CTE is the accumulation of subconcussive blows over time. We're talking countless smaller impacts that might not present any noticeable symptoms. Those are just as dangerous when they start to add up.

    • @seanboyize
      @seanboyize Před 4 měsíci

      I’m sorry you went through that. That’s brutal and I hope you’re well. The head trauma aspect of football is incredibly concerning. I had one in 9th grade playing the Oklahoma drill and it was because my coaches wouldn’t let me exit the drill until I stopped someone. The hit that caused it was applauded by my coaches. “That’s how you hit someone!” That planted the seed I didn’t know if I wanted to keep playing. Then, in tenth grade, I started at safety and this kid who ended up playing TE at an SEC school (6’4 250) was coming downhill at me (6’ 150) and I was bringing this guy down as he put his shoulder down when I started to feel something I never felt in my knee… it felt like I was popping my finger but it was my knee and I just let go. I was really close to tearing ligaments in my knee and I was lucky I only hyper extended it. I quit a few weeks later after that. I played from 3rd to 10th grade and had zero regret. I am now a basketball fan.😂

    How Awful & sad !! I remember Chuck Hughes passing, & Chris Henry, but never heard of the Jeff Alm story. Did he have CTE & they didn’t know it at the time? I Love football, but it’s not worth your life! No matter how much $$ you make! I did see a quick clip of the Steelers offensive lineman Jeff Strelszak (spelling) & remember his car accident on the 90 between Rochester & Buffalo. Another sad story!! 💔😔

    I quit football after playing from 3rd grade to 10th grade. I knew in 10th grade that was a great decision. I only had one serious concussion (that I know of) and I remember how it happened because of my friends looking out for me. 9th grade, Oklahoma drill. I kept getting beat by the running backs because I was a safety and they were some big guys. The coaches were roasting me, saying I was not leaving that drill until I actually tackled someone. After like 5 guys got past me and the coaches were going in on me I got so mad I just snapped and blew up our first string once it was his turn again and then BAM head starts ringing and I’m seeing tv static with tunnel vision. I get up and the coaches were like “NOW THATS HOW YOU HIT SOMEONE”. My friends were hyped up I finally got a big hit but they said I looked like I had 1000 yard stare when I got back in line.

    As much as I like football people don't really understand that magnitude of the brutal hits and what it does to a player who both hits and suffers the hit. I found out just how damaging a concussion can be. My son played middle School football and suffered from a concussion due to a hit to the head. I picked him up back at the middle school he went to after the team came back there after the game. The coach told me he had a concussion. My son laid down in the backseat, and I took him to the hospital where they confirmed a concussion. For a whole year he could not stop having migraine headaches so I told him I don't want you playing football anymore. As a parent who saw the consequences of suffering a concussion playing football, I really pray that they stop kids from playing tackle football due to the dangers it can cause in brain injury.

    I remember the game in which Chuck Hughes died. It filled the sports pages at the time. The one thing I didn't remember was the opposing team ( Chicago ), and the fact that although Dick Butkus was present, he had nothing to do with Hughes' collapse. According to the video, Butkus never touched him.
