  • Chassis work out in the Montana Garage! This time I focus on installing a shock bar on the rear of the '55 Chevy chassis. This upgrade solves the issue of the stock shocks being mounted directly to the trunk floor, which was a poor design and most often resulted in damage to the trunk floor.

    Going to order me a shock bar relocation kit soon. Like the idea of the bar being a little long and drilling holes as I feel it will give a better weld instead of a butt weld. Doing the Spring Pocket Kit right now. Your video helped me do a better job, especially with cutting the rear leaf spring relief in the frame. Didn't think about leaving a little extra meat to close the gap where the brace fans out. Needed a little extra to roll in to fill the void.

      Thanks Terry. Glad it helped. I've been following along with your progress on the Mob page. Looking good! I can never seem to be one for your live videos, but I'll catch one sooner or later.

    I think I would have put that shock bar in the same way you did . It just looks stronger than a flush weld . Great video , I'll never get tired watching that 57 tearing down the road .

      Thanks Ronnie. Hopefully more of the '57 tearing down the road to come!

    Going thru your videos slowly Brad, enjoying the channel (just watched you putting coil springs in the 57). I think the height looks fine (gives it a little gasser stance). You seem alright for a Chevy guy (😎)! Thanks for the content!

      Yeah you never know about us damn Chevy guys. Thanks for the input on the ride height. I still can't quite get used to it sitting taller in the front. It's growing on me, but think I'll take the time to try cutting a coil soon to drop it back down a bit. Stay tuned and we'll see how it works out!

    Nice job! Great car. Watching this frame stuff got methinking, that any hole in the frame [particularly around the wheels and rear kick up on the frame... are rust encouraging crap that one could weld shut pretty easy to save future rust probs. Just a future plan I guess. Thanks for the content! Nice!

      Probably not a bad idea, but I think the frame will out live me at this point as is, plus I am to lazy to go through and weld anything else up!

      You might not be quite as fast as DD but you are more of a perfectionist. Not a bad trait. Liking your channel. 👍👉🇺🇸👈

    Are you considering a frame strengthening X brace of some sort?

    • @MontanaGarage
      @MontanaGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      Sorry man. Just now saw this message. I'm probably not going to brace the frame at all . Just trying to get this thing back together and driving! It's just gonna have and old school small block and four speed, probably 300-400 horsepower so nothing crazy. If someday add more power I my consider it. Thanks again for watching. Just subbed to your channel, too. Gonna watch the '55 gasser video now.

    • @MontanaGarage
      @MontanaGarage  Před 3 lety

      Yep, I know there are a few that make made to fit ones. Mine will need to be customized a bit to work with the injection. I need to get off my but and get one coming from somewhere though... Thanks for watching!

      @@MontanaGarage yeah back in the 90's when I did the 57 had a guy recore the original radiator but still ran hot ,so I changed the core support for v 8 ,you have to have short water pump . I cut the welds and turned the horse shoe around then put disk breaks from my Monte Carlo on it , oh gee yeah completely restored Monte that he dropped off a culvert great time's , oh well spare parts I guess
