- Hey everybody in this video I go over how to cut duct board using (1 1/2")Amcraft V-Groove tools. I am using the centerline method, the paper with the instructions for how to use tools come in the box with the tool. In the video i kept saying center mark method, i apologize if anybody got confused. I'll provide the links to were you can find the Amcraft tools down below, buy them separately they are about $50 each. Also when cutting your duct make sure to find a smooth surface to work on. I was using an old piece of plywood that was not smooth, which caused me to struggle while pushing the tools.Thank you all for watching please like & subscribe

Yea no problem man👍
Question for you how would you cut for a 1ft x 10 ft 1ft all the way around
1st cut TRUE,all the rest minus half inch.
Thanks
Quick question, how long are the staples you would recommend? Also, are the measurements the same for 1" duct board? Thanks! great video.
I used 1/2” staples by bostitch and they seem to work good for me, and no the measurements are not the same for 1” duct Board. When you buy the amcraft duct cutting tools it gives u instructions for 1”, 1-1/2”,and 2” duct. The 1” duct instructions are down below.
Example: 10” x 6” duct
1st cut: 10” + 1-3/8”= 11-3/8”
2nd cut: 6” + 1-3/4”= 7-3/4”
3rd cut: 10” + 1-3/4”= 11-3/4”
4th cut: 6” + 2-1/8”= 8-1/8”
So say for example I want to make a box that’s 17x17 outer dimensions, how do I get my inner dimensions based off that for 1.5 duct board
Just subtract 3” from both your outside dimensions, so (17x17 outside dimension) should be (14x14 inside dimension)
@@AZSolutions92 ok sweet thanks man
Nice job, if you had 1" thick board would the same tools and measurements be used?
Thanks man, and no you will need to buy the 1” duct tools for that, also the measurements are different.
Really awesome instructional video. Thank you Alex. I am trying to find the best place to buy duct board so I can redo some a section. Any recommendations? I live in Tampa, Florida. I found the following at Grainger from JOHNS MANVILLE. Thoughts?
Srry for replying so late, but yes the johns manville duct board is perfect.
Can we put mastic inside at the corner for a better seal?
Yes you can 👍
@@AZSolutions92 but I heard it eventually catches mold?
Can you do inch board too man iv gotten so many formulas over the years for 1nch and 1 n1/2 , I just need 1 dominant formula
I have 10 years experience in duct board pebrication
Do you have measurements for one in board thanks.
Yes for the 1” Duct Board the First cut is (ID + 1-3/8”) Second cut is (ID + 1-3/4”) Third cut (ID + 1-3/4”) Fourth cut (ID + 2-1/8”) Make sure you have 1” v-groove tools to perform the cuts.
Hey Alex where did you get that case?! It looks great! I want to buy or make one. Let me know please!
I bought it from amazon, it’s currently unavailable at this time but i provided the link down below maybe u can find something similar.
SRA Cases Aluminum Hard Case with Foam Insert, Black, 18.1 x 13 x 6 Inches www.amazon.com/dp/B00NPYDF8W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_FJ19M9W7DQYQRBJKJA2Z
Thanks brother! great content keep them coming!
How do I size the ductwork to a air handler? For example a air handler is 20x20 do I use those to do the cuts or do I have to subtract or add something ?
20x20 is going to be ur outside dimension, so u need to use the inside dimensions to make ur cuts. If the duct board is 1.5” thick then u need to subtract 3” from each outside dimension to get a inside dimension of 17x17.
@@AZSolutions92 so it’ll be 17+2 17+2 5/8 17 + 2 5/8 17+2 3/4
@@AngelFlores-jx1pf Yes that is correct 👍
@@AZSolutions92 what about for pre existing duct, do I get the outside dimension of it and do the same ?
Yes if the duct is 1.5” then get ur outside dimension and subtract 3” off each side
Example: pre existing duct measures 17”x21”out side dimension, if its 1.5” duct then subtract 3” from each side u will get 14”x18” inside dimension this would be ur cutting dimensions that u plug into the cutting formula
So how do I get dimensions for plenum to sit flush with unit
Just measure outside dimension of unit and subtract 3” to get ur inside dimensions
(Example: unit measurement 21x21 then subtract 3” from each dimension which will give you 18x18) hope that answers your question
Yes sir youu the man
What type of staples are you using?
This is a link to the staples used in video

Is it Knauf rigid fiberglass?
No I used (Johns Manville Mat-Faced Micro-Aire® 120 x 1-1/2 in. Duct Board) but I believe knauf rigid fiberglass is similar jus make sure its for air conditioning application
@@AZSolutions92 I want to use it to make acoustic panel. I requires minimum 2 inches thickness.
Here is a link were u can find up to 2 inch thick duct board and info of product, says it has good acoustic characteristics.

How are you not wearing gloves?
I don’t like wearing gloves, I’m just used to not wearing them, but it is good practice to use them
