    🇷🇺Sometimes Russia throws up some crazy experiences and yesterday was such a day when I discovered an ancient church located somewhere on the edge of Europe. The building was beautiful but the inside was just weird... Oh and I had to escape from a Russian village.

    My Canadian passport says I was born in Ust-Kulom😄 You can see cows walking home on roads and log houses everywhere. I lived there when I was little but then we moved near the capital of Komi-Syktyvkar, where majority speaks Russian. So I don't speak Komi language but I understand some. My mom and brother are fluent in Komi. It's a very difficult language with 17 cases. In English there are only three. It's a lot different from Russian and related to Finnish language.

This was no exception. It was just weird to see him squirrel away like that, but as others have said, on an empty stomach (of food or vodka) it does change you, plus he's probably still got some kind of virus going on too.     When the guy ran over to help the babushka up it reminded me of my trip to Russia with my wife and my two sons (age one and half and three year old) I had a double stroller and anytime I came up to steps or stuck in a door way the closests man to me would run up and help me. Many people there are consideret of old people, parents with small kids , and children. What a beautiful people.

    it is not potatoe, its called Keramzit, thats a commonly used spongy and baked clay stone, used as an aggregate and filler before laying grout. very good material for acoustics and enhances rigidity of floors. that material is also used in plant beds as water holder, where they trap water within in its spongy structure for a long time, elongating soil humidity.

    Red star on private homes or gates means that someone who lives/lived there was a participant of WWII.
    After the war each school had a group of children who were responsible for their area. They would attend to any houses with red star and provide help. Anything from bringing groceries, painting fences and homes, helping with the garden, etc.
    It continued for quite a while, all the way into late 80th, as that generation became older.

    Okay, suggestions.....not your usual style but.....
    1) Lena River descent on some kind of commercial vessel(s). Stop a lot along the Verkhoyansk. Explore a bit.
    2) Indigirka in a rubber boat. Watch out for bears. And don't fall in.
    3) Go to Seymchan, visit gulags (very hard to reach unsurprisingly but I could put you in touch with someone), hear/learn Even (as in the language the Evenskii speak).
    4) All of Yakutia.
    5) Sakhalin - lost indigenous languages shared with Japan!
    You will need serious mosquito protection. Unless you go in winter. When you will need a serious snow mobile. And very warm clothes.
    You will see "real" Russian roads.
