  • I bought this custom Xbox Series S from eBay... was it worth $500?? It has a custom cutout on top with plexiglass, RGB lights inside of the console, a fan mod, and even the controller is slightly modified. Let me know if you've ever customized a console!

    • @skinpixel.customs
      @skinpixel.customs Před 2 lety +2

      Not sure what you mean by didn't use enough drying agent? They if anything would have used too much clear coat(used to protect the painted layers) or not let it dry long enough before sending it out. The paint also needs to breath, wrapping it in that much bubble wrap with it being sent through the parcel system with drastically changing unregulated temps does not help either. I can undertstand the need that they want to protect it as much as possible in shipping, just using the consoles own protective wrap would have been enough as it's not bubble wrap.
      I've learnt this my self when I started modding using paints, luckily not on customers' order. It wouldn't be sticky or even feel too noticeable on a blind touch test. Hopefully the guy who's modded this xbox is reading these comments / seen this video. It would be good for him to learn from this and helps him only to improve :) as otherwise yeah it looks pretty awesome beyond a few rough edges. As the purchaser it's what you pay for, that money goes into helping the guy afford better tools and the ability to learn.

      @@MrMemo0325 It'd be the lacquer clearcoat you have used either a little too thick or the brand is of poor quality.
      With as much bubble wrap, and the temperature conditions going from hot and cold in transit can cause the bubble wrap to sweat, that can have an effect on it, even with a perfect coating of lacquer. Wrap it in something flat like wrapping paper or the same softwrap that it comes with in side the box new. I wouln't bother with bubble wrap either if it's inside the box. Bubble wrap is evil.
      I made a similar mistake on my first controller paint job, clear coat was maybe a little thick and I thought as I store it bubble wrap would keep it safe. It made an indent after a couple of weeks. I don't mearly put on as much clear coat now, and also don't wrap the finished items in bubble wrap. It’s physically altered the surface of the paint. Have used the gear gun solution. Have also just have an extra coat of semi gloss clear coat, which does pretty much the same thing. Way simpler than dealing with RC cars. All the surfaces are flat!!! Your guess as to how the fan switch works is 100% correct! Fan speed is controlled via pulse width modulation, which is a signal typically between 0-1024. That signal adjusts the fan speed, so with that signal absent, which is what the switch is breaking in the circuit, the fan runs full blast

    The fan switch is just delivering more power to the fan making it spin faster. The fan is controlled by heat sensors on the mother board when this sensors send a signal to the fan controller it increases the power and speeds up the fan. The guy probably just taped into the power supply mains and just giving the fan full 12 volts when you hit the switch making it spin faster

      But when you look closer, and you notice all the imperfections, its terrible, double that if someone charges so much for those "mods". unlike the series x mod, this one was well done indeed. definitely more attention paid to detail, though I probably would have dremeled a hole for the ir sensor, it's likely he wanted to keep any cutting to a minimum though. the fan mod was interesting to say the least, likely the switch just bypasses straight to 12v, I probably would be one to use this mod as replacing the fan would be cheaper than having to replace the console. too many times these things are prone to running much hotter than they should in the name of "Quietness"

    And yes i know they also got it with the One S and above, and i believe thats where he started to custom mod those consoles
    Also i dont get why ppl are modding console just to put in some glass to look into the consoles, there isnt even anything special to look at in the first place, thats not a PC with a custom designed GPU or a fancy CPU fan or something just a huge PSU. Or in the X360 Phat times, all you see is the CD Drive or the huge heat shroud.

    Im a bit late, but i can explain the fan wiring.
    The pinout is +12v, ground, pwm and rpm sensor.
    The rpm sensor goes to the Xbox to see if everything is okay
    The +12 and ground are always the same, while the pwm pin controls the fan.
    He made the pwm pin pass through the switch, so when the switch is on the signal passes and regulate the fan, when the switch is of it blocks the signal and the fan goes to the full speed mode. It also explains why the switch works the opposite.
