- You can smell it before you taste it. Chunks of gray, pickled herring, floating in a vinegary, sweet and spiced clear liquid.
And in the Midwest, it's a delicacy. www.cbs58.com/news/a-special-...
I just ate some for the first time. This stuff is tasty. It was not overly strong. And the ingredients are all natural, no chemicals. It’s the kiss of health.
Idk about the “dating back to 1932”
But if you’re of Scandinavian or Jewish origin, this is a delicious treat all year around ✋🏻
I’m a 2nd generation Swede living in MA, I’ve been eating pickled herring all my life. Then I worked in a deli in a majority Jewish town (Easton/Sharon MA) who also ate the same thing. I loved being able to relate to a community of jews I previously had no comnection to, solely through our love of raw fish
Wow really like chews
Scan and jew here ....we always had it each holiday...
My grandparents had us take a pinch at midnight...for good luck, we lived in Missouri.....I wondered where this came from but in Norway they bute the head off! I knew it was from ancestry somehow ...it dates back farther though like in our ancestry....
Eating that fish in a jar does not bring you luck. 😖
But it's fun tradition ...dates way back ...farther than 1930s. Overseas...
I’m not a big fan of the taste . You might like it if you eat cat food…😻
