Thank you for this Shin-Shin. Audiologist from New Zealand here. Could i ask how the dynamic noise cancellation works in relation to the noise block feature in the speech in loud noise program? Lets say the user is in a one to one conversation in a loud noisy restaurant and they want to focus on the speech in front. My understanding is that when the noise levels get too loud, autosense 5.0 switches the hearing aids into the speech in loud noise program and depending on how narrow you have the beam former (under stereozoom 2.0), lets say its on ultra focus, the dynamic noise cancellation will also kick in to reduce noise outside of that beam former (rear and side) and the stronger you set it, the more noise it cancels out and the better the speech intelligibility for the speaker infront? On the other hand, how does this all work with the noise block feature? My understanding is that it reduces ‘uncomfortable environmental noise while maintaining speech audibility’ and so does the noise block feature work differently to how the dynamic noise cancellation feature work?

Good question! Thanks for reaching out to us. Both, the Dynamic Noise Cancellation and the NoiseBlock feature are active in the Speech in Loud Noise and Speech in Noise program. One does not exclude the other. Dynamic Noise Cancellation, a spatial noise canceller, applies early in the signal processing, after beamforming and before adapting gain. It applies cancellation to the noise from behind and the sides so that speech in front is enhanced. The NoiseBlock algorithm, a static noise canceller, analyzes the fluctuations of sounds over time and can reduce noise in specific frequencies. Depending on the sound environment and type of noise, the feature NoiseBlock provides more hearing comfort to the hearing aid wearer, even if Dynamic Noise Cancellation improves already the signal-to-noise ratio in challenging situations. DNC improves speech intelligibility in challenging situations and NoiseBlock improves comfort in noise.

@@phonak thank you! This clarifies it! Could i also ask. Does the ‘Speech Focus’ in the myPhonak APP relate to the Stereozoom setting (i.e. beamformer setting) or is it adjusting Dynamic Noise chancellor (strength of noise cancellation)?

Great new technology. When will the Lumity features be available in the Virto half shell?
