Yes, the 3-4-3 is the proper formation for total football! It's just a shame you can no longer set your middle CB to a sweeper like you could in old FIFA games. My high school team used a similar formation and tactic, and we were fairly successful with it. The key player was the forward sitting CM (which coach called a "rover") who was a free roamer. Defensively we had the stay at home sweeper, two hybrid fullbacks/wide center backs as you do here, and a "stopper" (my position) which was a forward sitting CB/CDM hybrid that sat between the midfield and defence. I was the guy who played it out from the back and cut passing lanes, and our SW was the muscle who man marked the opposition's number 9 and tried to put him off the ball. Our forward wingers stayed well forward and our wide midfielders dropped back to help on defence and off the ball served almost as a modern wing back. I love what you have done here and will have been wanting to replicate as best as possible our old tactics and style in the game and this is pretty close!

I'm SO glad I watched this video. The inability to get the CDM to play back at CB and moving your outside CBs forward unless you do it manually is tough, but my outside MFs were stacked on my Wingers and making it nearly impossible to play this way.
Brilliant video, you seemed to have, as you often do btw, understood how Cruyff's Dream Team played. I saw you were having problems with the wide centre-backs. Now, it depends on how you want to play. I'd actually recommend having those staying back, from a tactical point of view, but you're right: Cruyff's Dream Team had full-backs that joined the attack at times. Now, because "Join the attack" and "Overlap" doesn't really work with centre-backs, you need to change their positions. I've often changed to full-backs and had them on stay back and overlap (to offer width in the build up), but if you want them to attack, you may put them on balanced attack or on join the attack. Always when full-backs join the attack, they do so on the outside, so if you want them more so sort of tuck into the midfield, you will have to move them forwards slightly, so that they become "LDM" and "RDM". I've not experimented with attacking defensive midfielders, but I suppose that works just fine. If you want them staying there however, that gives your central/wide midfielders (Pedri and Gavi in this video) the license to go further forwards, whilst absolutely stacking the midfield. Just some tips. Great video as I said. Thanks :)
Love these tactics videos! Don’t know if you’ve covered this before, but you can change the shape your team defends in with the “Defensive support” player instruction, which seems to actually change the whole team’s formation in defense. For example, I play a 3-4-2-1 and by setting the LM to come back (becomes LB), and the LF to come back (becomes LM), the shape becomes a 4-4-2 (i.e. replicating Bayern’s 3-4-2-1 in attack and high pressing 4-4-2 in defense). You can even achieve crazy effects with these instructions, for example if the LM is set to come back (becomes LB) and the LF is set to stay forward (becomes LS), the RF set to come back (becomes RM), then the original RM actually becomes an LM in defense, crossing the whole pitch to cover the empty LM position which opens up a whole new avenue for custom tactics. Test it out! Would be cool if you incorporate this in these vids!
From what I can tell so far, it seems like the instruction changes the game’s coding for the team’s formation to most closely match the number of defenders, midfielders, and attackers. It can be frustrating, because it will often have unexpected results. Last example, in a 3-4-2-1, with the LM on come back (LB), the RM on stay forward (RW/RF), and the RF on come back, the game makes the defensive formation a 4-3-3. In this setup, the RF actually becomes the most central midfielder (maybe even CDM) in the 4-3-3, which is just weird.

@@Broma18 Tried my hand at creating the 4-3-3 variant the Dutch team used and Barcelona/Ajax sometimes used, building from this. Formation's a 4-3-3 false 9 with the fullbacks changed to wingbacks and mostly kept the defensive tactics and changed the offensive length to be wider than 10 and have the wingbacks join the attack and overlap. Do I need to change anything else or is this good?

Since I don't remember which system I'm using I know the question is vague but I use 1 of your 352 recreations from last year. Was the 1st time I ever played 3 at the back and ever since I pretty much always use it in my saves (unless I'm really doing a team/manager specific save) anyways I know the tactics and instructions by heart I use it that much lol...how much did you enjoy this vs in general 352s? I don't mean specific breakdowns (I still need to do the patreon like I told you before lol) just in general?
It looks fun and would be a new challenge to master. The 352 system I've used for most of the last yr and I've really kind of mastered it. I know where my players will be in almost any situation. Which is fun BUT it also feels almost overpowered for me now since I've played hundreds of matches with it. So while I'm not necessarily looking for a new system this 1 really intrigues me!

This system definitely requires a different approach because it’s just so unique. No other systems have wingers with a narrow diamond in midfield. I think it’s a really good one to try out.

hey broma quick question. In regards to previous tactics videos and setups with bombing wingbacks... I know you have wingbacks positioned as LM/RM to better suit the playstyle but in career mode can I still do this without gameplay penalty because on the team sheet it will say something like -18 if I have Emerson royal in that role. Is it still viable to play or will he play like garbage??

Well it’s really just about getting players who are suited to the role. Most CB’s can’t really perform in a role that’s meant for a CB. I personally found that the wide CB’s didn’t need to be overly physical or tall.
