    • @CanyonTuned
      @CanyonTuned  Před 3 lety

      Dual vanos you're doing the same thing, just tuning Intake first, then exhaust. One at a time, on/off

    • @XabiIglesias
      @XabiIglesias Před 3 lety

      @@CanyonTuned that makes sense. Elegant and easy. Perhaps pin your answer for the dumbasses like me that couldn't figure it out hahahah.
      Thank you and keep on the good work, this series rules!!

    • @carloschip
      @carloschip Před rokem

      Actually for future reference, it seems that dual VANOS (M54 and later) is not on/off like VTEC or single VANOS, but adjustable by angle. First intake, then exhaust is a good approach for tuning it, but it's not going to be setting an engagement point like is shown in the video, but actually setting cam offset angle by RPM/load in a 3D table.
      Also, this means that it's much more important for the seals to be in good condition as much more control over small changes in hydraulic pressure is required for dual VANOS.

    • @XabiIglesias
      @XabiIglesias Před rokem

      @@carloschip Hey. To my knowledge this doesn't really make sense on a mechanical level. Vanos is actuated by a solenoid that lets oil pressure build. This solenoid doesn't seem to work by duty cycling or anything like that (you can actually hear it click when you cross the rpm threshold). So, if the solenoid is an on/off switch. How could you adjust it by angle?
      This is just my intuition and of course I could be wrong. As such I'm absolutely open to get corrected here! :D

    • @carloschip
      @carloschip Před rokem

      @@XabiIglesias it has a helical screw i think? But all I know is that you can tune 3d vanos tables (exhaust and intake) for the e46 with angle offsets per rpm and load. They don't quite look like the 2D table he presents in this vid.

  • @Treeees
    @Treeees Před rokem

    Thanks for all the great tuning videos! I'm always coming back to them as I slowly buy parts. I saw a similar video from Crank about VANOS tuning and he said it takes about 1200 RPM to switch VANOS on and off, but this video you say it only takes 2-300. I couldn't find any other info on it so I was hoping you had some extra input!

    • @CanyonTuned
      @CanyonTuned  Před rokem

      Honestly it depends on the condition of your vanos. If your internal seals are good it will hold oil pressure and switch the cam angle faster. If you have a worn out unit, or old parts it could take that long sure. There's some programs out there to manually engage vanos like INPA you could trigger it, and look at your cam angle/vanos angle real time and observe how long the move takes

    The ignition tuning method mentioned at 25:35 is NOT how you tune any engine. You have at that point made no logical reasoning to why adding 5deg makes any sense. More ignition advance is not always going to give positive benefits.

    • @CanyonTuned
      @CanyonTuned  Před rokem +2

      This is literally what every other "tuner" does on these cars. I've looked at RK Tunes, kasle performance, etc. They all just add 3-5 degrees across the board. I agree for proper ignition timing you need a dyno. Torque will fall off if you're too far advanced but these cars really do like a few extra degrees of timing. Also, if you're adding an m50 manifold you want to pull timing up top and add timing down low. Also move the vanos engagement point lower too. I'm not an idiot 🙃
