This tutorial is for anyone looking to make their own performance tuning chips for Early Model BMWs that have removable DME chips!
How to create your own BMW Performance Chips! | Works With E30, E36, E28, E34 that have Motronic DME - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Best video on EPROM I've seen so far, hope to see more, I was almost gonna go standalone just because resources were so scare on tuning OBD1 e30 and e36
Yeah I was surprised there wasn't any videos out there covering the process, it's really not difficult
@@CanyonTuned im really dumb in this part or car. I have intstalled a turbo on a 318is class 2. Watching this video couple of time but still hard to understand. ( english not my first leangue). So can i tune the bosch ecu or not ?
@@alentohida3718 For a turbo car I would suggest going standalone, it's going to be difficult to dial in a tune when you have to reflash a chip possibly hundreds of times to get the tune right. Plus a standalone you can run speed density instead of a maf. Much easier
@@CanyonTuned chek ur insta
@@CanyonTuned what if you used MotronicRT r6?
I’m definitely trying this
I confirmed with a friend that you can go to 0 degrees of timing, this should give a nice burble on decel
your a G making this content, good shit! by the way anything special to look out for when getting a eprom programer or will any cheap one do?
this is great!
good stuff
I know you're the dme tuning goto guy. You should give me some pointers so I can do a intermediate and advanced tuning video 😎
Please do help the community grow; this content is fantastic!
Thanks a lot for this video men! Trully helpfull. But i have one question about It, i have an E36 325i with the famous motronic and obd1, do you think i could install an eeprom (instead of the original eprom) and then flash It via obd 1 as you did on your siemens e36?
No the eeprom chip need to be flashed seperate using the device mentioned in the video
Awesome info, needed this for my 1994 e36 325is. Are u on ig ? I’m in Jamaica and support for my car is hard to get.

Is there some forum or website that explains the tables in detail, you mentioned it in the video but I don't see the link? Also I was able to read my stock eprom, guess I was lucky.
Romraider forums I believe or possibly the tuner pro forums
Can you make another video on E30 tuning, My m20 is NA and I've don't a lot of research and theres nothing i can find on stock m20 tunes. its straight piped with headers so i really just want to make some pops, any suggestions?
Just find the part of your timing table for deceleration. Higher rpm/low air flow, then set it to 0 or even negative timing if you can. Add a bunch of fuel in those areas too. It doesn't work well because e30s don't have any kind of deceleration detection or logic like the newer cars do
Hello,
thank you very much for the detailed video. Is there any way to lower the operating speed of the thrust cutoff? If so, in which map?
No idea what you mean by that. Probably a bad translation
@@CanyonTuned Sorry, your right. Let me try it with on words instead of google translate. Above ~1800 rpm and closed throttle valve the motronic stops injecting fuel. Below ~1200 rpm it starts again with fueling. I would like to change it this way, that the motronic stops injecting above 1400 rpm and starts injecting at 1000 rpm. My E24 is working this way and it saves quite a lot of petrol and is a pleasure to drive in citys. Is that possible? Where can I change this setting?
@@honyracing5960 It doesn't look like this DME has any decel or closed throttle fueling tables. You might be able to manipulate the idle tables, but I doubt you'll be able to get what you need. I'm assuming you want burbles/pops? You can just pull negative timing in your ignition table in the decel areas
@@CanyonTuned No, i only want to save fuel at low rpms due stoping fueling at closed throttle. I'm living in the alps and I drive quite a lot down but to stop injecting fuel i shortly have to Speed Up above 1800 RPM that the Motronic does what I want and my E24 does that already above 1300 RPM.
Is there a guide on an E30 forum for tuning the M40 with a MAF? I have an E36 318i from 93 with an M40 so it feels like I'm in a deadzone
You would need to find a conversion table that maps voltage vs airflow for both the original AFM vs MAF then just apply that to your fueling tables. Or just buy an odb1 chip from a company that already figured it out
can confirm you can do this with a m40 e30 ecu Im gonna try take out the stock tune on my 316i and try do what another comment said set timing to 0
The problem is finding the definitions for those dmes, I haven't seen any. Maybe in some European forums
@@CanyonTuned yeah im looking around damn some people are asking money for these definition files. do i have to get the exact definition file ?
At 4:20 you have said to load in our stock dme tune, but how do we do that ? I dont know how can i read the ecu from my e36 obd1. If you could explain how we can get the "stock dme tune" from our car, it would be great. I'm just getting into this and trying stuff out with my e36.
Thanks
Sorry I totally forget to post the link to all the stock bins! I'll do that now
Just added all the links, sorry about that!
@@CanyonTuned Thank You so much m8 . I really appreciate You and Your content , I’m slowly building my e36 the content You provide is just great .
How can we get tuner pro to connect live with an obd1 car to make real time changes say on a dyno ?
Lol...that's not going to happen. You need a standalone to do that, not even newer BMWs are capable of doing live flashing
when you say they take 3-5% fuel out of the map are you saying just subtract 3-5 from each value or actually calculating what 3-5% would be for the biggest number and deduct that from acrross the board?
First of all, I wouldn't touch fueling unless you have a wideband and some way to log it against rpm (aka a dyno) but if you were to do that just select the entire table and multiply by the percentage. I'd get familiar with the basic data manipulation tools in tuner pro first
i cant find a XDF file for e36 M40 316i. is there a way round this? i can find them for m42 but that doesnt have distributor and im guessing the values may be different on th tables
I would check some of the euro forums, we don't have those engines in the states and most people swap them to bigger engines anyway
You can get tune chips on ebay for those: www.ebay.com/itm/252592368130
@@CanyonTuned appreciate it man but i want to tune it myself, yeah they are arbage engines,i want to use them to learn for that reason, they are cheap, dont mind bricking a ecu or damaging engine and i have them lying around and running at the moment. i have a m50b20,m52b28 and m42 i want to experiment on after but dont want to damage them and 2 arent even in the cars at the moment. maybe il try on the m50b20 but the only files i can find are for b25, i think that will work tho, not much changes sensor wise.
nice video hope i dont blow up my motor 😅😅
Can we reuse the stock chip to write a new map??
I have 93 316i it has m40b16 how can I tune it
Yes sir, you can clear the memory with a strong uv light
Sorry...misread your comment. STOCK chips cannot be reflashed.
@@CanyonTuned and every car has a different chip number or its universal
@@taimurrj6687 Your car would have the same chip as described in the video
@@CanyonTuned can’t find the xdf file for my car. Can you help please
Hello. I built an engine. M52b31 3100cc. Ms41.0 ecu. 85.5mm pistons m54b30 crank and arms. M54b30 47.7 camshaft and m54b30 purple injectors and m50b25 intake manifold. Compression's a little high. But no hits. gas from 95 octane. The city I'm in is 850m high from the sea. So the altitude is 850m. I need the right software for this engine. We have the M52b28 ecu now. Can you help me? Thank you very much
Capture some logs first. Especially fuel trims
@@CanyonTuned It's been 1,000km. I don't know what to do. Forgive me.
