  • I travel between 35-45 miles each trip and keep speeds to 60-62 on the highway. 95% of the commute is highway. I seen a loss in efficiency from 4.4miles/kwh to 4.1 vs the Ecopia 422
Your mileage will vary, but should be similar.

Those Ecopias are the worst ties I have ever dealt with. I had a BMW i3 and it would burn through those Ecopias within a year. I got the i3 for a steal... off-lease with 12k miles on it... I got it for $21k several years ago. We bought a Tesla Model 3 Long Range Dual Motor for the other vehicle. I started running the numbers and it would have been a wash to get rid of the BMW i3 and buy a new Model 3 Standard Range+ with the amount of cost savings from not buying new tires every year. The Ecopias were the only tires readily available for the i3... there were some Nokians available for winter tires. My daughter totaled the car (and was uninjured), so I never ended up pursuing that. We ended up getting a Model Y and swapped the Model 3 in as a replacement for the i3.

They aren't bad, of course, I'm not heavy on the pedal either, they are just less efficient from what I found.

Thanks for making this video, I'll be in the market for a 2017 Chevy Bolt in 2024, and might have to replace the tires, so this video was helpful, I'm wondering what the best tires
for maxium range efficiency would be? (I don't do a lot of agressive driving anymore, but I do want to be prepared for hanging on to this car for the next 5 to 10 years and
that means only keeping the battery charged to 70% capacity and not letting it go below 20% capacity whenever possible) so for me range anxiety will still be an issue, as I'll be making deliverys with the Bolt part time to supplement my lousy SSI retirement income.

I'd would keep what the car came with. The leaft had ecopias, bolt had Michelen energy savers. I was able to get 4.3 miles/kwh on the bolt. Thanks for the feedback, consider subscribing.

ANY new tire is going to reduce your range or MPG compared to a old worn out tire. A new tire has thicker tread and grips the road better than an old tire thus increasing rolling resistance. A new set of Ecopias would have also reduced your range. Not a good comparison. I think 99% of people are wondering how the tire affects handling / ride quality when they click on a tire review. I've seen other people complain their MPGs went down with new tires. Not smart. Not helpful.

Well being my miles per kwh we locked in dead solid for the ecopias at the beginning of their life, id argue its an apples to apples comparison. Both tires experienced the same path day after day. After 9k miles, the tire is broken in and should have similar results or better than the original tire. It didn't. Thicker tread does not always imply more grip. Grip is dependent on the many things like the coefficient of fiction of the surface and surface area of the tire. In EVs the weight as well as rolling resistance also comes into play. It's not just about tread. Point being at 9k miles ecopias were 4.4 and entyres were 4.1.
