Behringer SL 85S Budget Dynamic Microphone Review / Test (Is it better than the XM8500?)

- Today we have yet another budget Behringer dynamic mic in the Audio Hotline Studio for review. This inexpensive mic is the Behringer SL 85s. The SL 85s is an XLR, cardioid, dynamic microphone. It seems like a lot of mics are sold out right now, but I did notice this one was still available in some places currently, so I wanted to get a review out to help you decide whether it would work for you or not! I am always excited to try out Behringer mics, because I feel like they do a really good job making a product that has great quality for a great price. You may know this, if you have been subbed for a while, but I am a BIG FAN of the Behringer XM8500 and I was very curious whether this mic may be able to give the XM8500 a run for its money.
In this review I go through the basics, specs, testing and I also give you my opinion of this microphone… but don’t let MY OPINION sway you one way or another.
DISCLAIMER: I am one person, with one voice, one set of ears and a lot of audio experience that has determined my own audio preferences… whether I like this mic, or not, does not mean it is either right or wrong for you. Your reviews are spot on. I actually just bought some XM8500s for some extra livestream mics based on a previous vid of yours. You've got a great screen presence, a good sense of humor, and explain things well. Keep it up and you'll have more subs soon for sure. *Edit - After this, still glad I got the XM8500s. The frequency response actually looks very good, and the microphone sounds amazing for the price- it's smooth. Most of those nulls are inaudible.
XM8500 is still King of the budget, at least to my ear it's much clearer
I'd love to see you do a review of Behringer's SL 75c mic (their Shure SM75 copy). It's sold out everywhere! The reviews are universally positive and it sounds WAY better than a $20 copycat mic should
A lot of people shit on Behringer products but I think they make some terrific affordable gear. And I gotta respect their level of trolling
I'd like to see this compared with the iSK ICDM. I have a feeling the latter would be noticeably better just because it has that really clean sound.
A lot of Behringer stuff is sold out specifically. The $75 Behringer B5 is now listing for like $125 on eBay.
Sl85 S, it sounds perfect, with reference to the Shure SM58, you cannot demand more for a payment of 45 dollars cost in Ecuador. In addition, each microphone according to its brand will give its own tone or color... Behringer offers quality in its microphones at a low cost, in my opinion, each microphone will be used for the purpose that each person has.
4:28 you can even unscrew the bottom part, and turn around the clip for it to be "always on".

Is the grille on this interchangeable with the XM8500 or the SM58? (I don’t like the black grille of the XM8500 and can’t find replacements.) If it is, I’d buy this just for the grille and the case.

Its terrible at plosives and handling noise, but for the price, its fine! Would i buy it? NO. I would still anyday chose the 58 for pretty much everything!

@@Von_D I didnt get it, I have the AT2020 and I love it. I mainly use it for streaming, gamechat, and occasional covers of my favorite songs.
I would like this a lot more if the XM8500 didn't exist. Much better mic for a couple extra dollars, at least IMO.
I guess if you need a mic RIGHT NOW and you can't get the XM8500 it would be a solid choice.
Now all that said, I think Behringer is cannibalizing its own sales by putting out so many similar mics. Make the 8500, maaaaybe the supercardioid, cancel all the other handheld dynamics and give us a broadcast dynamic instead. Call it the MS-B7.
