Joey, as a concrete worker I have a few points for you. hope this reaches you before you pour!
    1. Please add walers to the exterior of your forms! Add one or two rows all the way around. Over lap them on the corners because these are weak spots.
    2. When you pour be sure to vibrate the concrete. This will actually make the concrete stronger and look much nicer.
    3. Please tell me you put some kind of form release oil on the plywood before you built it. if not those sheets will come off very hard and the concrete will not look as nice.
    4. Assuming the building is warm enough (I'm guessing so since you only have a t-shirt on) it only needs to set 24 hours before you pull the sheets off. you will be able to tell if the top is hard enough before you try but at the very least you can take apart all your braces in 24 hours.
    5. make sure to add a way to adjust the forms to keep the whole thing square and plumb after you pour.
Over all the inside looks braced very nice but the outside deffinatly needs walers wrapped around.

Hey Joey, HVAC tech here and thought i should chime in. Noticed you plan
on heating the structure with an air source heat pump. Now i do know
you said that the heat pump can run up to -30c, but from my experience
most of them will only operate to between -15c and -25c (-25 being the
coldest operating one i have ever seen before shutting down for cold
    weather protection).
The other major issue with a heat pump as primary
heating source is that the heat output it directly dependent on the
exterior temperature. The colder it is outside, the lower btu output of
the heat pump. The capacity of the heat pump at lets say -20c will be
60-75% lower than what the heat pump is generally rated for. Especially
if you plan on using the HRV/ERV to ventilate the structure in the
winter, then this will also add extra heating load as well.
Hopefully you plan on getting some sort of backup or auxiliary heating system installed
with the heat pump. One option that you could possibly do is a separate
infloor heating zone for the rest of the building where the big tank
isnt, or a heatpump that has backup electric heating built in. You could
also look into a through wall self contained electric heat cool unit.
Hope this helps and you planned around this since your going with a heat
pump. Id hate to see you spend all that money for something that is not
adequate for your needs. Goodluck with the build!

Mitch Castellano I commented the exact same thing back when he first mentioned using a heat pump... mind you I didn't explain the issue quite as well as you did but I thought the same thing. Having a backup source for heating this building will be a necessity IMO.

    • @paulwhite959
      @paulwhite959 Před 7 lety +1

Mitch Castellano I tried going with a heat pump for my outbuilding, wound up having to supplement with oil filled radiant heaters because it doesn't work well enough when it gets really cold

    • @Mitch-no8ui
      @Mitch-no8ui Před 7 lety +2

paulwhite959 I see that same problem all the time. people are sold heat pumps from companies and contractors as a primary source of heating, when in actuality the heat pump should only be and is only capable of supplying auxiliary heat in shoulder seasons. Hopefully he finally sees my comment and gets it all sorted out before they run all the electrical

You have literally saved me hundreds of dollars, I grew up without parents or any type of support system. With getting myself into college and raising two siblings I never was really able to chase any of my dreams. When I found this hobby my dreams went nuts but so many things were so unattainable to me. But seeing all of the content you produce made so many things possible. I am now starting my own 400 gallon PLYWOOD tank because of you and without you that never ever ever would have been a thing and I would never be keeping an arowana or a stingray. I would be more than happy to donate whatever I can come up with to make this possible because without you, most of my dreams would not be possible.

I realize how hard it is to ask for help. A little perspective. You have nearly 384,000 subs, average 100,000 + views per video twice a week. The number of people you've helped with motivation, inspiration, education through your passion and knowledge is incredible. Folks on a budget using your DIY's and being able to get into or expand their hobby without dropping a lot of cash. Dude you have nothing to be ashamed about in asking for help. We all need help sometimes and we all know this is going to pay off for us as well. If one third of your subs dropped a buck in the tip jar, one measly dollar, (I'm not sure what that would be in Canuckistani pesos lol) you would hit your goal, no problem. If your weekly viewers were to do that, again you would hit your goal. It's not like you're asking anyone to take out an equity loan on their home to pitch in. Although, looking at the gofundme, some mighty nice donations have already come in, over $3k in an hour.
Relax, go hug the Queen, the kids, have a nice Sunday dinner and enjoy your popularity.

My name is Gavin, I live in California, and I've been watching your videos for the last 4 months and I'm hooked!
I just wanted to say that your videos are absolutely inspiring! I'm not a fish keeper at all, in fact I have a passion for reptiles. However, your videos always keep me coming back. The way you carry yourself and the inspiration you emit for education has kept me entertained and begging to see more! The passion you have for the animals brings me so much joy! I'm currently in school to become a veterinary technician, and animals are a huge part of my life. I'm extremely excited to see what your future holds for you and I wish I had something to contribute. Your videos have inspired me to think about starting a similar channel for reptile keepers (who knows if I'll get around to it).
All in all, I really appreciate what you do and thank you! From one animal lover to another, keep up the awesome work, and I hope that one day I can shake your hand!
    Sincerely,
    Gavin Bagley

First time ever that I comment on a video but I really want to say that one.
Thanks Joey for all the work you put into your channel and all the inspiration you gave and will be giving us in the future!
I think it was the right decision to let us fund you a bit for this huge project. We all enjoy your videos and we will enjoy the gallery. You educated and helped us all a lot and you should not need to put yourself and your family in huge dept for that. Ofc. the gallery is a dream of yours that you make come true not only something you do for us but you drag us along you take the time to make the videos and with that you make a part of our dreams come true as well, for a lot of us.
I am sure it was hard for you to ask but don’t think just because we helped you out that you owe us anything. You already repaid us and we help you because we enjoy what you already gave us!

As I am watching this I admire you for asking help, I have had some rough times and was too proud to do so and regret it till this day. Also means I don't have the money to help you out but seeing you already raised 45k in about 15 hours, the ones that can spare the cash are doing it and I am sure you will be fine with the amazing community you have.
Keep it up, and never be too proud to ask for help because you will never regret it.

You're a content creator. By yourself, you create really well produced, educational and entertaining content. As time goes by, your content gets better.
Watching this gallery come together is great content and it isn't overloaded with ads. You probably don't feel bad getting help from sponsors because you will give their brands exposure. So don't feel bad about soliciting money from viewers because your brand has value too.
There is no reason to fret over asking your viewers for money. Providing free content and asking for value in return isn't something to be ashamed for, it's a business model.

The slower the concrete curing time is the stronger it will be. After 28 days the concrete will be fully hardened. Make sure when they pour it its done in lifts, letting the concrete flow will create voids. Also make sure it is vibrated or agitated in some way, tapping the sides will help a lot especially around the window openings. Drilling air holes in the bottom sill board will prevent voids as well. You could strip the outside after a couple days since that side wont be needing acid etched. It will give you a chance to rub a slurry coat on if you so desire.

I really appreciate what you do to communicate towards your fish keeping community. I was always a big fan of fish keeping and had my first 10 G aquarium. I became more passionate about my aquarium keeping over the years and even had 4 aquariums in my room.
People always ask me why I waste so much of my money on the fish tank but knowing that you put your effort in the hobby helps me see why I do it in the first place. I really enjoy the fish keeping as a passion and I truly love my fish as if they are my children. What you do and see in the community in the comments helps me to know there are others who have the same passion as me.
I really hope you keep up the fish hobby in the upcoming years and I will gladly support you in any way I can!
