  • Really, my favourite piece of gear! Definitely the piece of gear I use the most. My mountain hardwear ghost whisperer! I have the hooded version. Hands down, the best piece of gear I've bought. Quite possibly the best lightweight down jacket! More than a few repair patches have been added over the last few years, but thats what happens when you have fires at camp, and take gear on trail. I love this thing!!

    Loving the down babushka look. You're the one who convinced me of the ghost whisperer and it definitely is the best ultralight, full zip, and hooded down jacket!

    I carry an Enlightened Equipment Torrid Apex Jacket all year long in my pack. It is a synthetic jacket and I got mine for $150 on sale which is $25 off normal price. It is my favorite piece of gear that I have in my pack. I would not trade it for any other jacket on the market. It is around 7ounces and is very warm. I wear it everywhere in all seasons. Happy Hiking

    Great jacket, no question! I have a Patagonia Ultralight Down Jacket that is somewhat similar. Use it all the time in for 3 seasons. I wish I got a hood for it, like you did. Nice benefit. The black color you chose also hides any tape usage when tears occur, so that was a good choice. I enjoy your videos and common sense approach. 👍🏻

      @MattyOutdoors  Před 5 lety

      The hood is a huge game changer for sure, and you're totally right on the black colour masking the patches :)
      Those Patagonia jackets are amazing as well. The nano puff was on my short list as well as the ghost whisperer. Great jacket!

    Love the color black on this jacket. The new Ghosts Whisperer 2 only has a "Void" color instead of black.... which does not look totally black from what I can tell. Thanks!

    I believe a puffy jacket is a must in the Canadian Rockies! I decided to just bring a fleece on our North Coast hike a few years ago and regretted that decision too. Now I always bring one. Two weeks ago coming off Brazeau Loop it was -3 our last morning. That’s the middle of August!That’s puffy jacket weather. Lol.

    • @MattyOutdoors
      @MattyOutdoors  Před 5 lety

      Yea, those cool alpine mornings will get ya if you're not prepared for them! How was your trip through the Braz? I was just through that area a month ago when I came over Cataract Pass and out Nigel Creek. Had some cool evenings and mornings that definitely made me happy I had my puffy with me

    • @randyhermann1
      @randyhermann1 Před 5 lety

      The hike thru Brazeau Loop was amazing! Jonas shoulder was crazy. We hiked out of the fog to that valley dappled in sunlight shining through low hanging cloud. Got to meet Marty and Eric at Brazeau Lake and have good conversation around the fire. I’ve been a subscriber of Marty’s for a few years. I’ve known one of the guys you hike with for a bit too. I watched your Skyline video yesterday and was surprised to see Buddy M on the video. Lol. I’m curious about Wanda’s blanket and food/water bowls. What brand are they and does she carry it all?

      You really can't go wrong with either! Both companies make exceptional gear! I'm not sure how well the hydrophobic down works, as I've never had wet down gear. Maybe I should try that sometime. Just soak myself with the hose and see what happens with the ghost whisperer

      Not as light as GW, but may also want to check TNF Summit Series L3 (I believe it is the correct lettering). 800 down, pretty light, packs in its own pocket and a more generous cut on shoulders. A friend of mine is 6'3", 265lbs very broad shoulder and he wears a 2xl for a comfortable fit.
