    What an incredible review and detailed comparison! Keep it up, and you’ll be one of the go-to channels around! You blow 90% of the other “reviews” out of the water, as you actually talk about details and potential scenarios, vs many just list the technical spec differences from the manufacturers website. Thank you!

    I have three ghost whisperer jackets. A non hooded, a hooded and now the UL version. The only reason for grabbing a UL one is because of the price MHW is running them at. $150 was a good deal and I really wanted a super compressible lightweight jacket for travel and climbing while also traveling. I used my hooded ghost whisperer all over the Alps and it was super awesome. My wife and I like to travel during the winter and spring months throughout Europe, having a jacket that I can throw into my daypack for if the temps drop is something I really want. I didn't get the UL for a general day to day jacket, it is a purpose built jacket for bringing something along for when you need it.
    I am also waiting on the clone from Decathlon in their Trek 100 jacket, that is going to be my daily knock around jacket, my other ones I keep with my climbing gear that I don't use for anything but when I climb.

    I like you keeping the voice down outdoors, respect! 60% off sale on both 12/15/22. You made my mind up…thanks. UL. Yep, only the colors that didn’t do well are left and if you hate the color it will sit on a hanger, UL in gold and a Smartwool under and a rain jacket over, perfect.

    Great review, first was on the grams advantage of the UL, But I can only agree with you on the details you uncovered for me, they are such that only at a foodbar of difference you have so much better features available. Thanks a lot

    I never understood the purpose of these low fill weight jackets. They're barely warmer than fleece and lack any kind of durability. Might as well just wear an r1 air. Rab Cubit or the stretchdown all the way, the weight penalty is well worth the additional fill weight and the significantly better material. Most people who are worried about a pound have more than 1 to lose in the gym.

    Just wanna say thanks for doing these reviews. I'm new to the technical jackets/gear scene. This helps a lot, especially considering how pricey it is try different ones.
    Any plans on doing softshells? Namely the Arcteryx Gamma lt?

    Awesome review. Is this jacket as shiny on the surface as it appears in the video? I want to grab the Hardwear Ghost Whisperer 2 Vest. It only comes in black which is fine, but it does appear to have shiny surface on it.

      @@BackcountryRenegade Got it. I’ll probably pull the trigger. It is a very nice vest. Mountain Hardware offers the Mt Eyak 2 vest. It is more matte and a lower price point. Not as high performance per se (600-fill down and heavier weight vest overall).

    There's not more down in the new whisperer. I don't care what the company claims. The Whisperer 2 doesn't have quite the fill the original had. I own both. There's not much difference at all, but there IS a difference. Just an FYI...
    With that being said, I had on my original Whisperer in Minnesota during the winter. It, a Monkey Man mid layer and a Merino base layer kept me warm in 10° weather with a pretty heavy wind. No hardshell required(for me) The Whisperer can be an extremely warm jacket when layered correctly.

    • @quenta3179
      @quenta3179 Před 2 lety +1

      In this comment, do you say the whisperer 2 has not the fill of the original, or that the UL whisperer has not the fill of the original ? Or that the UL has not the fill of the whisperer 2 ?

    • @dextermorgan1
      @dextermorgan1 Před 2 lety

      @@quenta3179 I don't own the UL. I have an original Whisperer and and Whisperer II. This video says the Whisperer II supposedly has more down(loft) than the original, but I'm telling you from experience, it doesn't. I love both jackets, and it's only a tiny, tiny difference between the two. I can't tell the difference by wearing them. They're equally warm. I can, however, look at them side by side, and see the original is slightly "puffier" than the new version. It's a negligible difference at best. Hope this helps!

    I prefer the straight lines on the baffles on UL, otherwise I think the 2 is a better product for less money.
    A few grams doesn't hold that much weight. Pun intended.
