I forgot how beautiful this show was, and if I remember correctly the ice skating community LOVES this show. At least they did when it came out. Pretty sure Johnny Weir gushed about it on Twitter.
yeah, the director for YOI, Sayo Yamamoto, is known for having a thing for ice skating. she also worked on the opening of Persona 5, which has its characters gliding and dancing over roads like ice skaters.
6:10 since I am a huge animation nerd I know this! Since it's 2D, the technique isn't really "motion capture" but rotoscoping. It's just another way to capture movement from filmed references tracing over the frames, Disney uses it a ton and it helps getting weight and realism to the animation (like YOI absolutely has, specially on the first episodes where - imo - the animation quality is tighter).

omg im so glad yt recommended ur reactions. your insights are spot on. i don't think other reactors talked abt the age thing. i 1st watched this show in 2016 being a 16 y.o., and when i rewatched it this year- it hit SO differently. yuuri's anxiety, victor's motivation stuff. a 16 yo me never elated to them this much.

I love that you have the general picture of YOI and haven´t watch it entirely before because im a fan of your reactions . I always watched it in Japanese because since 2004 to nowadays its how I watch anime, generally speaking whatever I watched Im doing it in V.O
Personally I can relate a lot with Yuri, all his struggle and panic attacks before competitions I used to have them before exams at university; and knowing that you have the knowledge/ability to do something but being enable to make it out uuufffff
