Security guard here. Couple of suggestions: 1) call the police before you go outside to investigate(get your back up coming) 2) keep a distance between you and the person you're engaging. You don't want the person to suddenly be able to grab or stab you. 3) carry either mace/pepper spray/bear spray with you
That way if the person charges you you can spray them and retreat into the house. Make sure whatever you decide to carry is legal in the U.K. 4) even if the person is a woman do not under estimate them treat them as if they were a man and keep your distance.
You forget that this is the UK....mace? BEAR spray?! Non of those are legal and bear spray...seriously....there are no bears in the UK.
Its also pretty normal to check what is happening before you call the police.
Could be a wild animal, a drunk neighbor or anything non threatening.
The police had more important things to do then make housevisits to anyone who heats or sees anything out of the ordinary.
Great advice! I got scared to see him go out to confront the creep with no self-defence gear. Men often think they “can handle it with bare hands” but what if the intruder had a knife/gun? Pepper spray is not just for women - it’s a brilliant, no-contact self-defence tactic.
Also, bring the dog on a leash just to look intimidating?
@@SquidandCatAdventures No. Absolutely don’t bring your dog to confront a criminal. You’re just putting your dog at risk.
I think all of mace/pepper spray/bear spray are NOT legal here in the UK. I do hope he got the van the man was driving number plate
Clown was up to no good, I think he was trying to get in that storage shed and had to fall back on his bs Emily story when he got caught 👮
Hmm you think?
@@SherpasDaydefinitely, bringing flowers adds a nice touch to the story if caught. Next time Sherpa Bear will be waiting for him 🐕👮
Another very plausible possibility...🤔
I was thinking the same, exact thing! He knew that wasn’t a house!
I think so too. And had his van parked outside to load the haul. The Emily story was the cover in case he got caught. Which he did. Because why should he jump over a fence to get access to the premises, especially since he parked on the driveway right near the entrance.
"Some guard dog you turned out to be"
Sharpa: I'm a Malamute not a Malinois 🐶
"I'm not asking if you're OK - I'm asking what you're doing." Love it.
That was good! 😂
Me too! What a great way to immediately take control of the situation!
I missed that, Jamie’s the man, but always a gentleman❣️☺️
If he was looking for “Emily” why not ring the bell on a property and ask instead of creeping around peoples gardens!
Had a beer can and roses sounds drunk or he is a good actor
Unless he was trying to stalk her or break into what he thought was her home.
@@BlackTigr Yes, I thought that, especially when I saw he was driving a van.
Because he was inebriated. Either he doesn't know where she lives, or he had no clue where he was: Ok Look! There is a little cottage! I think that's her place! How do I get to that? Where's the gate? Oh, just hop the fence.
When folks are drunk, they don't think properly, and don't make the best decisions.
Well said
I suspect "Emily" and the flowers (which looked like they were ripped out of someone elses garden) was just a ruse. His vague responses triggered red flags. He was, as we say in the US, 'casing the joint' to see if you had anything worth stealing.
Exactly
Rock on Emily if you exist which we don't believe, I mean does she live in a shed ho ho. The trouble with you jamie you are too nice a guy the intruder was casing your place with his big van to see what he could steal. So glad neither you or sherpa we hurt. Lol david and Carol ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What did he want from the shed? Doggy treats?
@@davidcrawley7441 You are absolutely right! 👍👍👍
"vague response" is also drunk people language.
Nah man, that’s not how most lost and disoriented folks act. He was surprised you had the guts to confront him, that’s why he was sheepish. Be safe! The world needs all the good dog lovers it can get.
What worried me was when he went back to his Van . He might NOT have been alone , could have been more men in it ! X ❤️🇬🇧
I really do hope you read this message. Next time there's an intruder on your property do not go outside! You are at a most vulnerable position and could be attacked for them to get into your house. I live in South Africa, where we do NOT go outside when there are intruders, so now what criminals do is intentionally make a noise or cause some kind of havoc forcing us to unlock our doors and go outside and we get ambushed. Next time, let the cops handle it please.
THIS
that's one opinion.
in america, a lot of homeowners are armed with guns of their own, so it's the criminals who get ambushed!!!!
Cops have been severely defunded though unfortunately
good advice, but on the other hand, Cornwall is hardly South Africa or America.
@peacewillow in South Africa, if you defend yourself and your property, you are the one in trouble.
There was no Emily. His whole story was a ruse. You did a good job Jamie. I work for the RCMP and he was definitely looking to steal from your shed or remove other items from your property. The transit van was close and out of sight so he could easily move items to it without being seen. Glad you had a camera system in place and got the police involved.
INDEED 👍
Agreed
Why was he carrying flowers?
Agreed.
@@penultimateh766 ❤ For Emily! ❤ ...or.. so he could SAY he was looking for Emily...in a shed 👀
Please Jamie, don't go out there unarmed again. Sherpa needs you, we need you! Stay safe my friend. Hello from America. 🇺🇸
dude its not America. we don't carry arms. And don't need them. you lot are crazy.
WOW Jamie THANK GOD YOU PUT THE LIGHTS & ALARMS UP! He was definitely up to NO GOOD & YOU COULD'VE REALLY GOTTEN HURT!
1. glad you are ok 2. you let him get too close
Yea we're all good 😊
He had a deadly weapon in his hand and he could have hit you with them. You may get a baseball bat.
@@SherpasDay You're being a good sport flagging all the criticisms....you truly are a nice guy Jamie. Thank God you and Sherp emerged unscathed. By the way young man, I've noticed...several times actually......the meals you serve for dinner look outstanding. I was wondering if you had some sort of culinary background?? I'm a single guy and none of my food looks anywhere near that appetizing......Thanks for sharing this adventure.
He climbed over the fence, so I believe he was up to no good to put it politely. I hope Jamie gave the Police his plate number...
Please be careful Jamie. You are a lovely soul, but call the cops next time first. You are both very precious. ❤❤❤
More security needed big time around all edges of your land. You were fortunate he didn't get violent. I certainly would never confront an intruder just dial 999 & keep safe.
He wasn't someone's date. A date would pull up to the house and knock on the door - only a predator would jump a fence of the neighboring house to lurk around a shed.
Be aware that now he's visitd he may return another time, could be casing the place to return
So glad you and sherp are safe Unfortunately I have had a few break-ins , lost an atv and trailer then a big street bike
I would not gave been anywhere near as friendly
Scary! There's no reason for him to be looking for someone or creeping around in someone else's garden at that hour of the night. He's making stuff up.
My guess is that there is no Emily and that was just BS to get you to sympathize. (And it's definitely not me, lol!)
Very odd isn't it
@@SherpasDay Jamie unless Emily is a mushroom living behind your new shed he was a thief creeping around guaranteed!!!!!! Why would he jump a fence and go behind a shed looking for Emily HHHHMMMMM MYSTERY!!!!!!

Ohhhh Jamie glad you're all right❤❤❤
At least you got the whole thing on camera and his plate number if he did have nefarious intentions. Glad you're both ok!
Jamie, any man, late at night, holding a beer can and a bunch of flowers, looking for an unknown address where he can find Emily is precisely the kind of man whom Emily would NOT want to see. My brother's immediate reaction was ''a stalker'' and I agree.
Looking for ‘Emily’ …. Yeah. Of course he was if Emily is the contents of your shed in a foreign language.
😂😂
Hopefully he wasn't looking for a place to "hide" Emily! Stalker much?
That was exactly what I thought. And then in the middle of the night
@@leese.23yeah that's what I think, he's a stalker...poor Emily...

Your comment made me laugh so much!!! Very aptly said.
😂😂😂😂
😂Good one!!
And SHERPA will help you dig the hole! For a steak Dinner!
LOL!!
No rubbish, Sherpa was looking after the house. Your a good boy Sherpa so adorable 🥰 😊
I love that your first instinct was to keep Sherpa safe.
OMG that guy was so wierd! Seemed like he wasn't going to leave there for a minute. "I'll see you out", like you were escorting a guest out the front door. You are so polite. Best line of the whole night -- "I didn't ask how you were, I asked what you were doing". So glad you and Sherpa are OK.
Did love how Jamie had sang- froid and corrected the intruder.
The glaring issue for me would be that he was in your backyard (garden) instead of at your front door, ringing the doorbell like people normally do when they are calling on someone. If it was me looking for 'Emily' I would expect her to be (inside) her house waiting for me, not in the backyard (garden) where it's dark and I couldn't even see her if she was standing there. I have visited friends at their home countless times and not once did any of them ever say, "Meet me in my backyard (garden) in the dark.
One further point, he was holding flowers that look like they were pulled out of the ground and still had the roots on them. Most people would have flowers in a vase or in wrapping paper to look presentable.
Too many issues with his 'story' that don't make sense. I can see going to the wrong house, that's possible. However, most people don't go to the wrong house and climb over a wall. They go to the front door.
Anyway, I'm glad that you are safe and nothing serious happened. I would certainly keep the plate number close by and watch things the next few days, and maybe share your experience with the neighbors in case he comes back.
@Lamya65 It still doesn't explain this 'person' being in someone's backyard. I've gone to visit a lot of people, nobody has ever said, "Meet me in the backyard where it's dark." I go to the front door of the house and ring the bell and ask if the person lives at this house, or do they know if she lives next door? I certainly wouldn't be climbing over fences in the dark. Nothing that person did or said made any sense.
Oh, this is priceless.....I love this reply......Thank you so much for making me laugh today, I needed it.
I'm absolutely going to start telling my friends to meet me in the backyard from now on. 😅

That was definitely scary & alarming! The guy's story of "Emily" and the flowers pulled from someone's garden are a little suspect. Also, jumping fences and creeping around your shed at midnight? I suppose anything is possible, but good to let the police handle it. Beefing up ur security too w/ motion sensor lights & locks at the summer house. Good thing for your camera & alarms! Be careful 🙏 Happy that you are both ok 😊🐾💕
"For Emily, wherever I may find her", is a song by Simon & Garfunkel, Jamie and Sherpa I pray God's blessings for you and your family, lots of love ❤
He was there to look around and either steal now or come back. That's horrible. I am so glad you two are ok. 🙂🐾💗

That's what I thought.
Very odd wasn't it
Agree, he was definitely doing a recce to see if there was anything worth taking from the shed.
I agree also
Only Jamie could turn a monologue about a trespassing incident into a soap opera about a girl named Emily. 😂
I think you did a great job getting him off your property. You were calm, recorded everything, checked on your neighbors and worked with the police.
I am thankful you and Shera are both safe. Please be careful and take care!
P.S. You did such an amazing job on the shed! Now you may have to work on a taller fence in hopes of keep these nuisances out.
You handled that well Jamie ... your security background put you in good stead. Glad all is well.
AGREED , had the exact same thought when I watched this 😊
I worked in security for several years and this dude was definitely trying to get in the shed. He parked the van in the driveway and was fully prepared to load it. You are brave and thank you for keeping sherpa safe.
You handled that so well! From your mannerism to checking on your neighbors. Well done.
Thankyou

Glad you both are unharmed. Please be careful Jamie.
No way I would have confronted anyone, I would have just called the police. Of course I am in the US!
Me too
Yea I suppose guns are used there arnt they
Contrary to popular belief, most of us would never shoot a person on purpose.
Sounds like bs to me! Walking around with dead flowers after midnight 😂 he must’ve been searching for days.

Jamie, please, you should have at least a small pepper spray dispenser with you before confronting intruders. Even if they have a weapon, pepper spray will give you a decent chance of escaping a crazy person. Please consider having this defense available to you. We all care about you and Sherpa.
Not every Country has access to "Pepper Spray" it might be illeagal in the UK, it is NOT allowed in Canada for example.
@@lorrainegunn4111 I live in Canada, so hairspray or a similar aerosol does the trick.

Jaime, reading your title my heart was in my mouth!!! Be careful going outside!!! Call the police first!!! You know what happened to me and Keith 2019 when moving here to Albuquerque NM. That was scary! I'm glad you are okay, Jamie. I think he made the story up, and probably grabbed flowers from a nearby garden in case he was discovered and he could pretend he was looking for a girl. I'm glad you got the police involved. Sherpa snoozed through the whole thing. I'm just glad you are both okay.

Stolen flowers and a can of beer! Yeah, I always walk around at midnight cutting my neighbor's roses out of her Garden while drinking a can of beer. I love how he tried to hide it too! Maybe the can of beer is named 'Emily' and he was empty?
Hi! A chunk of rose bush isn't a gift of roses. ....hee hee hee! Well, he tried. 😄

Too much excitement for Sherpa lol 😂 ❤️🐾❤️🐾
Sherpie handling the team’s division of labour:
« Ya, you go check outside dad, I’ll stay here and make sure all our stuff is safe »
Jamie you should add motion sensors up by the cars. And on that side of garden. Also solar powered motion sensor flood lights. On the summer house for sure. And up by your cars
Hope you gave the police a copy of video showing him and his van
Way to close for comfort
You were super nice to him. If it were me I probably would have stayed inside with my pup and just waited for the police.
He was looking for something to steal, he had a van.The flowers in his hand were just for show.
Its crossed my mind before that your house is very open to view from the road. Maybe some kind of hedging at the fences, to block the view of the sides and back of the house. Some 'No Trespass' signs and an audio of a big dog barking. Put some camera's and sensors in the driveway. IMO he was lurking with intent, checking out the summer house. He had already clocked the vehicles in the driveway, so he was seeing what else might be up for grabs (he was driving a van). He could have been watching you through the windows! The flowers looked like he ripped them out of someone's garden. He was sketchy and up to no good. Glad you and Sherpy are safe.
Cctv....
Jamie for the police to show up and have a dog with them, tells me this fellow was up to no good. Be careful and make sure all of your outbuildings and vehicles are secured.
It’s terrible to think someone is wondering around in your backyard at midnight. Please stay safe Jamie . You don’t know what intentions they have. Sherpa lying there so relaxed like I will protect you Dad no worries. 😅Sherpa is so adorable 🥰
Just glad your both okay. Stay Safe.
OMG Jamie, please don't go out there again, he could have had a knife or anything.... call the police and make Sherpa bark.... scary situation xxx
Jamie you need to be more careful. He got too close to you and you never know if someone is crazy or if they have a weapon. Even though I knew you were okay it was still scary. We all love Sherpa but we love you as well. And Sherpa and Sarah need their Daddy.
Scary! I'm so glad you and Sherpa are both safe!
This was so frightening and I'm damned glad you and Sherpa are alright!🥺💓 He had no right to trespass and creep around, not cool at all!! Please be careful Jamie.😳💕
Oh Jamie, that’s frightening. There was no Emily. He was planning to steal whatever he could find. Even more scary is he may have tried to break in your house. If this had happened where I live, this guy would have been looking down a gun barrel. Some people put up signs around their property that say Beware of Dog. I know Sherpa is harmless, but it might make someone think twice about coming onto your property. Please stay vigilant. You and Sherpa are so important to all of us. Love to you both from Tennessee USA. 💕🐾
Do The Golden Girls bit and get a real- life bark attached to the doorbell. Or get a Doberman Pinscher WOOF.
I was also thinking of a Beware of Dog sign for the main gate. Some people who don't even have dogs display them to discourage trespassers.
@@WilliamAndScout I've seen motion-detection dog statues that bark when activated by movement. Something like that might work with the right placement.

The fact that he had a van with him AND he appeared to be drunk, he was definitely trying to look for stuff to steal. Those flowers looked like they were pulled out of a neighbor's garden as an alibi.
I used to have drug dealers next door to me, and one night, some guy came to my house instead. I have several cameras and gave the sd card to the police. I would never in a million years have gone out and confronted anyone at night. The police finally raided the place, and 4 years later, I have good neighbors now. Stay safe. 🐞
I had a man creep up on my porch at midnight attempting to steal some stuff I had there. I did not think whatsoever. I grabbed the nearest object I could use as a weapon (a heavy salt candle holder 😂) and ran out the door after him. He leapt off the side of my porch which was quite the drop and took off with me in pursuit. I let him go when he jumped the fence because by then I realized I was a small woman chasing a big possibly armed man with a candle holder and he would realize that eventually😂

That was an excellent reply!
You should contact the police right away. The fact that they stopped by your property with a K-9 unit means they were looking for someone and your video footage could provide them with very valuable information.
More importantly, your dinner looked AMAZING! I need recipes please, please, please! The roasted potatoes and the Yorkshire puddings look to be do e to perfection!
I'm a Grandma with 40 years experience cooking roast dinners. Good roasties need the right sort of potato, a hot oven and regular basting with th oil/fat. I start them off raw, round the meat in a generous roasting tin, then transfer them to a separate pan later when the meat comes out. Save some of the meat fat for the gravy. Alternatively, you can pre-boil the potatoes the night before if you prefer, cover them in oil/fat when drained and still hot and add a light dusting of Bisto powder. This will save you a bit of time and energy next day.
As for the Yorkies, I actually find nowadays that I get good results with the Jamie Oliver recipe every time. I hope this helps!
So glad you and Sherpa are safe and yes, your dinner looks amazing! ❤
Jamie, I am just glad you and Sherpa are safe,
OMG!!! He was definitely up to no good, SO SCARY! 🧐😳So happy that it worked out ok!
Maybe because I'm American, but my first two thoughts were: stalking Emily or using excuse to rob place. Who has a midnight date & why didn't he just knock on the door if he thought it was legit. If he was there to rob he probably froze when the lights came on & the pulled flowers were an excuse. Where I live you never challenge someone since they can have a gun. We stay inside, call our 911 and let the cops deal with an intruder. But you are so good hearted you never thought bad of him. It's why we followers love you & Sherpa.
Now that's a scary evening! There's a scam going round of one person ringing the bell, asking the person who lives there to exit the house for whichever reason, and while the first person is being a distraction, a second will come round the back to sneak into the house and steal whatever they can. Glad this wasn't one of these, it did cross my mind when you went to talk to the guy, I'll be honest.
Might do good to be on the lookout for a while to see if this one comes back now that he has the lay of the land, too.
It's nice that you checked on your neighbors. I'm glad no one was hurt. It's kind of scary. It's good that you have alarms. Good wishes.
Thank God your all okay
The fact he was driving a RED van on your property at your shed.😮
I have also heard that people go around looking for empty sheds, and houses to "POACH"; stay forever; and it is nearly impossible to remove them from YOUR PROPERTY, in the UK.
California is having a terrible problem with this. ! Their laws do not allow the police to remove the squatters!
@@shalacarter6658 Sad. Honest people have to pay high rent but squatters live for free. The world is crazy.
Squatting on private property has been tightened up a lot on in the UK - commercial property however isn’t covered by the same laws and that can cause nightmares.
Yikes! That was quite suspicious! I agree, if you’re looking for someone you knock on the door, you just don’t Willy Nilly wandering around someone’s yard. Glad you called the police!
Coming back with Sherps sprawled out on the floor is the key moment in this whole episode😂

Your restraint is admirable. I would have told him the police had already been called and his face and plate number were recorded.
That’s a tool thief if ever I saw one. There are so many gangs doing this stuff in Norway, too. They go into construction sites and peoples back yards looking for power tools and other such equipment.
I've never had a 'beau' think it acceptable to turn up at midnight, or look for me in a garden summerhouse. He could have turned on you. Please be careful.
You handled that situation so beautifully. I was worried when I was watching the video but you had the situation in control. So glad you and Sherpie are safe.❤
Looks like he picked those flowers from someone's garden. Check your neighbours. A good decoy to say he is meeting a female after midnight. Yea, dream on. He didn't have a torch to see if he could see her. He didn't come out with her name straight away. Also he had a van. Great to take stolen goods away. Why didn't he knock on the door to ask for Emily. He allowed Emily to wait in the cold and wet for him to turn up when she could have waited in the warm. He was driving with the heater on staying dry. Address unknown of Emily. Lies. Lies. Lies.
You were shining a torch in his eyes (good) so you were blinding him. He couldn't see if you had a weapon or a huge burly chap.

This is amazing, as the same thing happened to me this past Wednesday, unfortunately this guy broke into my tool shed, by prying of half the side, went into my garage, and pried a screen off one of my windows in an attempt to break in the house! That I'm looking for X, Y, or Z's place is a very common 'rubbish' excuse caught in the act prowlers/thieves use here in the USA. Since Jamie filmed license plate & entire interaction, perhaps his local police could find such original & unblurred footage very helpful. Glad you and Sherpa are ok
Are you crazy Jamie!!!! Oh my gosh call the police and let them investigate! You let him get too close to you and didn't carry anything to protect yourself. You need some self defense classes... Holy cow. ❤❤❤ I am happy you are safe.
