The first John Wick film starring Keanu Reeves was a surprise hit in 2014. Wick’s no-nonsense “gun-fu” fighting style mixed with the mysterious world-building and the satisfaction of seeing someone get revenge for a puppy really struck a chord with audiences, making John Wick Keanu Reeves’ most popular movie since The Matrix trilogy. Naturally, they had to make some sequels. They had no choice in the matter.
John Wick: Chapter 2 definitely raises some questions though. Like why did John think leaving the life in exchange for something that could bring him back at any time was a good move? Why did Santino want to hire the boogeyman, when the job consisted of walking through a secret tunnel? And why hire him of all people if he knew he was going to double-cross him? Is anybody in this world NOT an assassin? What was with that whole seven bullets scene? Does the dog think they’re just going for a run?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to John Wick: Chapter 2! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

This was one of my favorite Pitch Meetings. It’s amazing to me that Ryan can keep making these every week and the quality never drops off.
Idk, I feel like he could've riffed on a lot more stuff in this movie. Like the fact that the assasin chick is deaf apparently and that doesn't hinder her or anything. A bunch of fun moments was skipped as well, like the gun sommelier scene.

"So then we're going to have this funny scene where they're shooting at each other with silencers and everyone around them's completely oblivious!"
"I mean, guns with silencers still make a decent amount of noise."
"This is New York, sir, they've seen everything. You could ride a horse down the street there and no one would bat an eye!"
yes the movie is much better if you decide that in its universe, New Yorkers are just so used to assassins running around everywhere that they can't be bothered to react
@@RoyWiggins So, New York is really just Chicago? Got it.
"why would they blow up the dogs house?" had me dying! LOL
3:50 I was so hopping you would get this correct when you started to say it. Guns with "silencers" still make a ton of noise, because silencers do NOT exist. Suppressors do, and they are capable of taking a gunshot sound from deafening, to eardrums have a chance of surviving loud. Seriously, a gunshot is about 180db, with a suppressor it is still at least 150db. For once I want a movie to get this correct.
The writers of John Wick took Michael Scott's advice to heart:
"Think about this: what is the most exciting thing that can happen on TV or in movies, or in real life? Somebody has a gun. That's why I always start with a gun, because you can't top it. You just can't"

You absolutely nailed it. I watched this movie thinking "Is everyone in New York an assassin?"
Actually the seven bullets does come into play. The eight bullet would have killed Santino in the museum but because John Wick did not have another shot to reload the fight went all they way to continental and John was excommunicated because of it.
Also it comes into play as the penance that Bowery King has to pay - 7 Cuts.
Stil don’t get it
@@BSOBN In hindsight, Bowery King should just have given John 2 bullets. Well, one bullet would be the second least painful, but that would be just bad story writing.
@@deaconstjohn4842 If he had one more bullet he wouldn't have killed Santino in the hotel thus he wouldn't have gotten excommunicated.
he shot so many times in between then though
"Barely an inconvenience" always lands a solid punch in your pitches I've seen, and serves as a great running gag that encapsulates what you're doing so well.
Ought to have included:
"He goes through this concert shooting guys who don't shoot at him UNTIL they're in frame."
"Why not?"
"Cuz then he'd be dead already if they shot at him while safely further away from him and the movie would be over."
"That works!"
Riding a horse was one of the most grounded things that happens in that movie!
The "There's Tilda Swinton on the turntable" caught me off guard.
2:33 just noticed Ryan's been standing this whole time
Best line: ”Is anyone NOT an assassin..?” 😂
That "debt seal deal" that Santino has on John Wick works this way: Santino helped John Wick to retire, so now he OWES Santino and if he comes out of retirement ever again (for what ever reason), Santino can claim Wick's debt in form of ordering him to kill someone and there is no way Wick could refuse that kill contract. It does make sense and it's not even that bad of a deal. Unfortunately for John, he came out of retirement by taking out this entire Russian mob clan in the first movie. So his debt came due.
Well, that was far from entire clan, as we see in second and third movies, but in everything else you are right. The main idea of all John Wick's franchise is how he desperately tries to leave that underworld and how it swamps him more and more with each John's move
I get more and more unnerved when I see the name Santino(mostly because that's also my name).
"It was a book this whole time"
That why he is a literally God in this movie
Simply brilliant.
3:22 - the "huh!"s are priceless
5:22 I love this face and the tone in it, it transmits perfectly the "poor thing didn't even have a chance"

Because she is Batwoman.
“The dog’s probably having a pretty good time.”
