But my calculations say 8k with 24 bit color at 120Hz is about 12GB/s - that's gigabytes per second - uncompressed. I'm sure they aren't plugging it into an HDMI cable but it is really not that out there in terms of bandwidth especially if you drive sections independently with losslessly compressed output

@@PhenomRom Most 3D tech is all about alternating frames. The screen syncs to your glasses and your left eye gets a frame, then the left eye goes black and your right eye gets a frame then goes black. This is what gives it the 3D effect, each eye is getting a frame from a slightly different angle, one at a time. Just very fast. Some people (me included) can be sensitive to the flickering and takes a minute for the brain to make the flickering go away.
This also worked with split screen games with some TV's. Where one user get's player 1 screen and the other user gets player 2 screen. Each pair of glasses is synced to alternating frames so you both get the full screen, and can't see each others.

The alternating frame technology has actually been around for a few years. Many 3d tvs implemented this. They are very rare nowadays but we still have one. It has 100hz, displays two slightly different images at 50hz each with alternating frames, and the 3d glasses are synced to it to show one image to one eye and the other image to the other eye. Your brain then turns that into a 3d image. The tech behind this is really fascinating.

This was done before with the PlayStation tv from when the ps3 was out. It was a 3d tv and with support 2 people could play local multiplayer on the whole screen without seeing the other’s. Not many games supported the feature if I remember and rarely anyone bought a PlayStation tv, so the idea never took off. Cool tech regardless.

That's essentially the same concept behind 3d TV's, but the shutters on the glasses alternate to give different images to each eye. I imagine with a small tweak, you could have two pairs of glasses give different images to two viewers. Everyone would need their own headphones too, of course.
It sounds really cool, but for the amount of cost and effort, it's probably easier for the second person to just watch their show on a phone/tablet/computer or a different TV.

@@EoRdE6 It had potential, but Sony was (as usual) terrible at execution and marketing. It was proprietary tech that required a display specifically for that, the display itself had subpar quality (24" screen was pretty bad even back in the days), the remote control had to be purchased separately, the SimulCast feature that they were so proud of wasn't usable out of the box because it contained only one pair of 3D glasses (so you need to buy another pair and they weren't cheap). Worst of all, most developers weren't on board and couldn't be bothered to make games with this feature, since 3D entertainment was dying, and local multiplayer was also dying out in favour of online multiplayer (fighting games being the only exception since it doesn't need split screens).

I am an unreal Engine artist and ive been wanting to get into Virtual Production, seeing with that they can altranate franes is a game changer. I visited a VP studio and i asked if they could use two cameras and they said that the tech wasn't quite there yat but they were experimenting with altranating frams! Happy to see that its an actual reality now!

Honestly one of the coolest things about virtual production isn't just having the environment visible to the actors, it's the lighting IMO. Like yes you lose a tonne of work and potential mistakes cutting down on compositing, tracking etc. but you get so much natural lighting, reflections and depth that's either impossible or crazy time consuming (ie not gonna fly with the studio) to replicate. I know they tend to need additional lights for some brighter stuff since the displays are only so bright but it's still huge to have glass or gloss surfaces reflecting the real environment in real time with no tricks

The tech for the virtual film screen is both crazy awesome and yet a retred. Some of the 3D TVs launched 10ish years ago would allow parties to watch two different inputs in the TV by fixing one color to input X and the other color to input Y, where the glasses had a way to set the desired color channel vs traditional Blue/Red at the same time.

I've had the Eight Sleep pod and topper since December last year and I will say that the set up is pretty hellish if you have a large/king size mattress. There were also some hiccups on the setup with WiFi and stuff, but eventually when I got it all settled, it's been great! I also have used and still have the BedJet which uses air to do the same thing. There are pros and cons to each. The Eight Sleep is definitely better at cooling the bed evenly since the whole thing is lined with the water channel, while the BedJet has a hose that you route into one spot of the edge of your bed. They have the "cloud sheet" that I have that'd designed to help disperse the air more evenly, and it does, but not completely to the extent the right sleep can. However, one big difference for me is the speed at which the two devices can cool/heat the bed. The BedJet can make the bed cold or warm very quickly, while the eight sleep takes some time to actually cool or heat the water and get it flowing through the entire topper. At this point I do rely on the Eight Sleep just doing it's thing on autopilot and it keeps me comfortable most nights. Once in a while I might be a little extra hot and I use the BedJet to cool down the bed more quickly when I get in. They're honestly both great systems. I like that the BedJet had a dedicated remote. The Eight Sleep doesn't, so if you wake up and feel like adjusting it, you have to turn on your phone screen and use the app to do so. This actually turned out to be less of a drawback than I expected since autopilot really does a good job - I don't have to adjust it much ever really. Though, for the price, I do wish they'd include a simple remote for quick adjustments. All in all though I can recommend it. It is pricey, but worth the luxury if you are a hot sleeper or someone like me who goes back and forth waking up hot or cold at times. The BedJet as well I can recommend highly if you're on a tighter budget. It costs a lot less but does a great job too.

I guess that's where all the PlayStation 3D display tech went!
For context, in 2011, this 1080p display was released and by using active shutter glasses (which basically are doing the same thing as the cameras here), two players could see entirely different content (imagine mario kart, but the entire screen for yourself). It's pretty similar to how some 3d tvs worked, but instead letting you see alternating images, each person would only focus on a specific half.

I did a short stint at a prototyping/rnd place and got the opportunity to play with those led walls using unreal engine. It was a pretty cool experience. I honestly would be working there if they paid better. It's going to be pretty crazy when these start becoming more accessible in terms of the production cost to shoot a great variety of videos and scenes. Things that used to take a lot of effort in post and would necessitate reshoots if the shot was just off enough now either take way less time due to being shot live or due to the director gaining the ability to see a glimpse into what the final shot will look like while shooting. Virtual production and LED walls as a killer accessory are making absolute waves right now.
It's really awesome tech and honestly, I really believe we'll be seeing some accessible solutions to this within the next 5-10 years for smaller content creators.
