    Well I’m 4 years late. But a cheap file will also do the job. If you’re going to use a pull through sharpener, use less pressure. You’ll feel a lot of resistance in the beginning and you want even pressure all the way across the blade. After the new edge has been made the felt resistance will decrease significantly and that’s your sign that you’re done sharpening

  • @curtisstewart9594
    @curtisstewart9594 Před 5 lety +3

    After you get the edge up, do 15 to 20 light passes. This will refine the edge and polish it. Most people put too much pressure on these type of sharpeners. More light passes will result in a better, longer lasting edge.

    May be the best thing for my Corona Loppers. Boeshield is a new one to me too. Good on joints. Been using Quick-Glo for rust removal and it is amazing(water based). When most people see rust they destroy the item cleaning it.

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  Před 5 lety

      Great for the loppers. Using that oil works great and it leaves a tiny thin coating to stop rust. Its sold for bikes because it's thin and resists water. The little bottle lasts a long time. Thanks for watching

    Instead of oil as a hinge lubricant, I've been using garage door lubricant. Unlike oil and wd-40, it doesn't attract dirt, so the smooth result lasts longer. Anyways, awesome product! I'll have to check it out.

      If the mower blade edge is round it will need a new edge put on with a grinder. With this type of tool, dress the blade every time you mow. You dont need to remove the blade. Just take off the spark plug cable, tilt the mower up and give the blade 15 to 20 pulls. Have your blade profesionsly sharpened at the beginning og the season or twice a year.

    I always love your videos so I bought this based on your recommendation. But then I watched another video where the guy said that we should not use sharpeners that just work on the tips of blades on single beveled blades. The flat side should be sharpened in its entirety on a flat sharpening surface like a whetstone, then the beveled edge on an angle. Now I worry that I might have ruined my pruners. Do you have any experience with this? Thanks!

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  Před 3 lety

      The one I showed here is designed and sold for use on pruners so I wouldn't worry. You can see in the video the difference it made instantly and I have continued to sharpen them this with great results. You can certainly use a whetstone, etc That's a lot of work and this tool revived many old pruners for me. Keep in mind its sold for this purposes and even a couple of yeas later continues to get awesome reviews.

    • @curtisstewart9594

      You have to start with a decent blade. If you have one that has been used for two seasons, or you you mow twice a week and level gophet mounds with your mower this sharpener, or any of the x crossed carbide sharpeners will not be satisfactory. Get new blades or your existing one sharpened. Should cost $7-10. Then use this sharpener before you mow each time to dress the edge. It should take 15 to 20 passes on each edge to keep the edge nice and bright. If you do a lot of mowing have the blade sharpened and ballanced profesionaly twice a year. Have two blades so one being at the sharpener does not interfere with your mowing.
