Tried putting my heels on a plate exactly once because every banal fitness influencer suggested it. Felt like I was gonna keel over, bought a pair of squat shoes and never looked back
Plates under the heel are a good option for beginners, when the weights are light and it seems silly to invest in a pair of weightlifting shoes. It helped me practice hitting depth- But I can’t imagine doing really heavy weights like that, for the reasons mentioned in the short
@@BGeezy4sheezy yea even for me I have been high bar squatting in deadlift slippers for well over a year before my coach convinced me to buy a pair lol (I am 6 feet tall)
Heel elevated squats can be a great way to place more focus on the knee extensors/ the quads but it's important to have a stable and safe surface underneath. A single plate in soft converse won't allow the best balance and force transfer while also being not the safest option.
I did it even simpler. Just took a piece of mdf and screwed a 2x3 against it. So one side of the mdf is resting on the ground, the other side has the 2x3 in between the mdf and the ground. Maybe not strong enough for 6 plate squats but good enough for what I use it for.

completely disagree. what he’s doing is totally fine. I squat the same way and have had no issues with it. Granted I can only do 405 but i feel very stable even on a plate.
Heel elevated squats take enough pressure off of my lower back and allows me to squat pain free with full ROM after a microdiscectomy and laminotomy. I wouldn’t say stability is that big of an issue if he’s squatting 6 plates lol it’s not a bosu ball…

What are some of the alternatives?

I tore my plantar tendon doing hack squats in this configuration. Get full support under your foot.
Was hoping for y’all to pop those shirts off for a Sulek pump check and got let down
Squat Shoes are a game changer 🦍
I use a squat ramp/wedge because I don’t have the mobility to get full ROM but I want to do atg style squats
If you have a miter saw, some two by fours, and plywood you can make a squat board for next to nothing

You can easily get a squat board for $40. I got a used one for $20
