@@NEORandomMan Well the difference is Lysandre was just trying to nuke everyone off the planet except Team Flare, Ghetsis had huge motives and put them on hold specifically to kill you because you were in his way, he could have thrown you out of the chasm and did what he wanted to do but instead just outright goes to kill you because he doesn't care.

@@FLFL-Cookays Not really? A lot of Toby Fox's songs from Undertale take just as long to get to the climax of the song, about as long as Ghetsis's theme did. They often do a lot of repetition of the same short melody over and over before finally showing some variation, but oftentimes the short melody is so catchy that people don't often notice. But some tracks are so slow that they're altered and sped up in the official soundtrack versus how they are in-game, like how Death By Glamour is much slower in-game compared to on the soundtrack.

Look at the context, dude. I was just using him as an example because I was replying to a guy that said “if the build up to a song is too long, it’s not good” even though people LIKE Toby Fox add build up that long in a lot of his tracks and are still widely liked.
I brought Undertale up for a reason, not to be one of those rabid fans that like to bring it up just because they’re obsessed with it.
i like Ghetsis theme because of drums and wind instruments, its make music very serious. But Dennis part really ruin it for me
I think Patterrz sometimes misses that themes dont always need to be super hype and upbeat to fit the situation theyre in. Ghetsis theme fits his fight and his personality perfectly and creates an optimal mood for his battle.
Exactly! You can’t be objective with the themes. He did the same with legendary and champion themes. “It doesn’t sound like a legendary theme,” or “It doesn’t sound like a champion theme.” You can’t look at it like that. You have to look at it on a legendary by legendary/champion by champion/evil team leader by evil team leader basis. Focus on the character and not the status.
@A Cool YoTooBist It's bland, but it isn't supposed to be exciting or energetic. It is the theme of a megalomaniacal madman with a god complex. Therefore, he has an ominous theme primarily using intimidating drums, backed by a choir chanting "Ghetsis" (It sounds like Dennis because the chanting is saying his Japanese name, which is Ghetis, without the s after the t). Combine that with the smoke in the background and Ghetsis' monster of a team. It's hard to come up with a more perfect theme, even if it isn't exciting.

Yeah but at the same time this is all one person's opinion on how much he likes some music from a video game. He likes songs that get you hyped and go hard. Nothing wrong with that. I disagree with a lot of his rankings but I can respect them.
Lysandre xy theme is underrated
Useless knowledge: Ghetsis's name and the actual music theme are intentional representations of "Diabolus in musica" - Devil in the music. It uses disharmonic intervals on purpose and even his name reflects that. Given that it's the theme of a game antagonist, honestly, I think that's a really cool and well done hidden twist there :)
ghetsises themes are very good for me, but they do need quite a bit of context to understand. i listen to all 3 on my own a lot because i personally love the songs, but i understand why its not a song most people would listen to for fun. howeveR. listening to it in the games gave me goosebumps, and when you really analyse the song they get much better. bw sounds very booming and discordant, but has just enough to tie it together. bw 2 is very frantic and up and downish, reflecting how insane he gets. usum elevates and addes to bw 2s version, reflecting the time he was pulled from. also it shoulds a lot like arceuses theme because he sees himself as god, further backed up by the chanting of his own name (which also adds to his religious vibes).
i adore villians. i adore pokemon. gen 5 is my favorite. so i naturally love ghetsises charecter, and his themes only add to him in my opinion. i could go on for longer but yea. i love analyzing everything hehe

I also had to do a double take. But I like it.
G-cis theme is so interesring on a music analysis way. When they scream his name they actually sing the G and Cis note. And that's random. It fits him well as a villian becausee that interval (G to Cis) is known as a tritonus. The so called devils interval, because it is very unharmonizing. A villain that uses the devils interval in his theme song as melody? Thatb deserves an A tear at least!
Edit: his german name is literally G-cis. But that's what Ghetsis really is.
Also the fact his name means devil in the music(ghetsis harmonia gropius) his team is styled after the papacy of roman Catholics in the middle ages(even down to choosing a king, in this case N,ghetsis is like the Pope who crowns the king and the sages are like the cardinals) his theme sounds similar to arceus(poke god) but distort and dark to show he is evil with a god complex, plus g-cis, the tritone that inspires his name, can potentially be phonetically pronounced in a way that sounds similar to jesus further driving the dark catholic imagery. He is literally a character with a god complex but named after the devil and that is just surface level stuff I could keep going. He is deep in a music analysis way your right!

To be fair he has larger goals especially once he gets Mewtwo. He is a Mob Boss but Mob Bosses control a corporate empire without ever owning a corporation. He wants Pokémon to gain more power and with more power he controls more of a region through influence. Once he became a Faller his plans expanded, he’s no longer content with just one Region, now he will control the Multiverse. Every World will be his, every villain and every Pokémon from every possible iteration of the world will be under his control. I really hope we see Giovanni return in a bigger way than just in Post Games because even the Post-Game with Rainbow Rocket shows they never caught him and he can travel across universes by himself.
Giovanni wants 2 things: money and power
Lysandre wants 2 things: use the power of the ultimate weapon and kill every single living thing in the fucking universe

I had such an opposing reaction to what he said about both of Cyrus' themes. The newer theme is a good song but it doesn't fit him at all. The first one is much more cold and calculating and has a fantastic buildup that wasn't even listened to here. BUT I completely get why the new one is liked so well, it's a really good bop.
Nah, I think the switch from 6/8 to 4/4 killed the momentum of the theme. But that's just my opinion.
@@SorisMusic The bassline is what propelled the theme in the first one too, and it was kind of absent in the USUM adaptation. the way it was adapted focused more on the drums and is more reflective of the USUM soundtrack. Im not saying one is better than the other, but the nostalgia from gen 4 made the remake music trash to me
I felt personally attacked when he said it was forgettable and put it at C tier. I legitimately love Cyrus's theme and it's why I love restarting platinum just to fight him again. Yes I'm a little biased because Gen 4 was my first gen, but even so, it's an amazing theme in my opinion. I personally feel like Cyrus should've been A tier at the very least.

#2: I didn't mind Giovanni's theme being that slow. It still sounded suitable and threatening to me.
#3: Evice and Greevil's themes sound like that because they reflect the battle's status as the final big battle of the game more than it being an evil boss battle.

Guzma is probably the best Team Boss in pokemon. His theme absolutely slaps, for starters, and his team is devastating if you don’t have a counter to his Golisopod. Now, onto the character himself. He’s doesn’t want to capture every pokémon, or destroy the world, he just wants to he recognized as a good trainer. Team Skull, it’s grunts, and Plumeria were the only ones who recognized him and praised him, which is why he continued to run it. He was rejected as a captain and a kahuna, and even though he isn’t a bad guy, he was represented as one
What im looking for is something that instills anxiety
boi ghetsis gives that anxiety you dont need anything extra fancy you just need dark sounding drums with some chorus chanting his name in the background and a hydreigon to instill fear on first experience

To everyone, I want to share my thoughts on the Ghetsis theme.
I (and some others) personally believe that the choir in Ghetsis's theme is saying penance, as in you are paying your penance for your "sins" against Team Plasma.
Though it's ok to believe that they are saying whatever ridiculous things you think they are saying. I respect it.

My favorite is N's final battle theme.
I still gotta say I'm confused on how giovanni managed to become leader, all the villains in rainbow rocket are from worlds where they basically kill the protagonist and succeed in their evil schemes. The gen 3 leaders, who's names i actually forgot, flooded the world/set off volcanoes everywhere, Cyrus ruled over time and space thus remaking the whole universe, Ghetsis killed N and manipulated the whole world into following his cult and conquering the god pokemon, Lysander destroyed his world and made it beautiful according to him....and what did Giovanni do? Steal a master ball to capture a strong man made pokemon, didn't even bother with a world domination or destruction plan

Y'all need to stop sleeping on XY music. The ost is amazing. Not the best, sure (Sun and Moon SLAPS and Gen 5 does too), but honestly much better soundtrack than Gen 4 or Gen 1, or maybe even Gen 2

@@justinl2009 I find Gen 4's battle music specifically to be overrated and some of the most generic. Just the battle music, I understand why people love the overworld themes. Specifically, I find the gym leader theme generic, legendary theme weird and inconsistent, evil team leader theme incredibly generic, etc. I think the standout themes are the Champion theme and Lake trio theme, but I find most of the other games to have better battle themes, in my opinion.

Sinnoh lacking? Honestly Sinnoh has the best music imo outside of Gen 5. Cynthia’s Theme, Gym Leader themes and the route themes.

The gym leader theme is highly generic, and by far the most disappointing theme is Cyrus's. It's so bland. Best themes are Cynthia's and the Lake Trio, Lake Trio SLAPS. Otherwise, eh.

Gen 4s music is very symbolistic of its surroundings and its place in the story, like sunyshore, it’s meant to be bright as it is a celebration of you nearing the end of the story and it celebrates your victory over team galactic

Honestly, I love Sinnoh but even I admit Cyrus’s theme is underwhelming. I get that’s sort of the point-it’s supposed to be a bit more hollow to fit his personality-but it’s sad that the theme for his grunts/commanders is more memorable to me. I’ve never heard the USUM version before-so much better. The techno, futuristic vibes fit so well.

N's final theme is honestly my favorite in the entire series. It's an amazing theme
My top 3 have to be Lysandre’s remixed theme in Ultra Sun and Moon, Lusamine’s Mother Beast theme, and Chairman Rose’s theme.
But in terms of villains overall, I liked Lusamine. For a game that’s considered appropriate for kids to play, she was probably the darkest villain. She experimented on Pokémon, disowned her children, and was driven absolutely insane when she lost her husband.

The encounter theme for team skull is one of my favorite themes in all of Pokémon, I hope he listens to in one of the ranking videos some day.
Personally Ghetsis’ theme is, at minimum, an A. You said that a villain theme should make you anxious, listening to this while fighting his infamous Hydeigon. Also, I think it sounds like Arceus’ theme because he sees himself at the same level as *God* ,if not higher. But that’s my opinion.
Honestly I prefer Cyrus’ DPPt theme to his USUM theme
The USUM version fits more with the space concept of Cyrus, but lacks the "identity" and the link to Cyrus himself that it has with the DPPT theme

Personally I get that Lusamine is the "Villain" but game wise she does suit that, anime wise she's just a very worried mother/wife, so imo she's not really a villain. As such, I can kinda get the "holier than thou" theme she gets at first, and I would agree, a fallen angel like theme, mixed with an alienesc theme would go well for her seeing as she was consumed by Nihilego, or combined with, whatever you wanna call it..

Lusamine's theme is a remix of Lillie's encounter theme. It was made to be a more sinister and evil-like Lillie.

You're right, Colress isn't inherently evil. He is merely a researcher, a scientist, that seeks the true strength of Pokémon.
He is referenced in X/Y, in which a backpacker says "A few years back, this really strange dude named Colress told me that these big stones emit some kind of special energy." The stones are the tombstones found on Kalos Route 10, which is the route between Cyllage City and Geosenge Town (the location of the ultimate weapon)
And in his appearance in Gen 7, he is researching the Z-Ring/Z-Power Ring, now believing the true power of a Pokémon to be its bond with the trainer.
His role in Gen 7 is expanded in USUM, helping the Ultra Recon Squad by creating the N-Solarizer and N-Lunarizer, as well as returning the various bosses back to their home world

Ngl I can understand why people don't like Giovanni's, but to me it will always be high A tier. I won't deny that parts are not S tier worthy, but it hits so hard, and it feels so grand and epic. It doesn't hit the same as other villain bosses, and I don't think it was ever supposed to.
Edit; found a comment that actually fits my opinion pretty well. Every evil team leader is just that - an evil team leader. But Giovanni self-proclaims himself as the strongest trainer alive, which kinda makes him like an anti-champion, or however you want to put it. So his theme is based on the idea of representing a corrupted champion, and a strongest trainer battle, not just an evil boss.
Every team leader's theme in USUM slaps freakin hard, all are extremely good!
