One thing to keep in mind about the various area battle themes is that they have to be able to flow seamlessly with the overworld music which is probably why they sound a bit more tame
Yeah fire emblem does the same thing and I'm glad pokemon is taking a jab at it because it's such a good way to keep the pace between the overworld and the battle
And they have the area theme mixed in which I thought the music glitched that they didn’t play both the wild and area theme together
I think we should all thank god that the final boss theme didn't glitch.
The elite four theme glitch made it seem so creepy. Especially with the sterile room the battles take place in. It sounded intentional, but now that I know the actual theme, I am so disappointed that it happened to me.

I think them hitting on the 'mysticism' for Area Zero is because it has to be the theme for both the futuristic and prehistoric sides, and it found a nice balance for it.

46:16 I see this in a slightly different perspective, the Koraidon/Miraidon theme isn’t a good final battle theme, but it’s a great COMEBACK theme. It’s very uplifting, since not all is lost, and a way to win had presented itself.
The song was very similar to the final pokemon theme from BW's gym leaders, but it was presented in much more exciting way because of the build up. I was seriously looking through my every option until the one last thing told me it's there.

The Koraidon/Miraidon fight would be better if you didn’t have plot armour. I decided to Endure when Penny said “hang in there” because I wasn’t aware that you couldn’t lose. Because of this I didn’t get the “toughed it out” message and that honestly made it more hype.
A translation issue made it less obvious that you were supposed to use Endure there. Penny pretty much straight up tells you in the Japanese version.

Yeah, it was an odd choice having Endure in the move set, having a point where Endure is scripted as the optimal play, but it isn't necessary at all XD

The champion theme is a mix of past pokemon themes that Junichi Masuda helped compose during his years of being director of the franchise. The theme was supposed to be his last music peace as a goodbye theme.

as someone who is extremely interested in music theory and what makes music "good", hearing the opinion's of people who aren't musically trained is super interesting to me because often times the way they'll explain their opinions and thought processes is so different to what we're used to, and it's a good way to hear other points of views.
Music is subjective. However, obviously, certain aspects of music theory are objective. Most of the time, if a song isn't composed effectively, it's not gonna sound good. So its super funny watching Pat listen to Geeta's theme, thinking it's inconsistent and all over the place, yet it is objectively well composed. You can not like how it sounds. But trying to gaslight yourself into thinking it's poorly conceived is hilarious.
Yep! I mentioned it my own comment just now. But its SO clear that Pat (and chat in general) doesn't get music theory or composition. Which is fine, I don't expect Pat to have that knowledge...and seeing a blind perspective in that sense can be interesting. But sometimes I wince.
A song referencing OTHER things in the story is good actually, especially for a song that plays at the END of your journey.
You can dislike things and still know the execution is good.

This is the same pet peeve I have pokemon design tier list of a few people. Because they judge some pokemon based on just design like Meowscarada being bipedal but then go "I didn't like Skeledirge'd design until I saw what it was based of so S tier" or just because some lore stuff, and I don't agree with that stuff, dudunsparce's pokedex entry can be "it produces the cure for cancer" and I still think it's the dumbest new evos and design, same applies here, I still think Geeta and Leon's theme are the worst out of all of them
@@Rex13013 Listen, Geeta's theme is speratic. The constant switching instruments will cause that. However it is in no way a "bunch of stuff thrown together". In a strictly music theory sense, the constant key shifted and changing instruments are beautiful choreographed.
Being said that it is completely valid to dislike the song. Some people aren't a big fan of that kind of music. I have a feeling that Patterrz is one of those kinds of people because one of the most common complaints he gives to songs is that their too speratic.
Again, that is a completely valid take. *IF* you are specifically talking about the subjective aspects of music. In my original comment I'm merely talking about the fact that Patterrz is rating it low because he believes it's not constructed well.
In all honestly I don't even think he thinks that. Just like the Elite Four theme I think he's just jokingly salty that the theme glitched when he first played.

I love how the team star melodic bit sounds melancholic alongside the quiet bit yet heroic, cause they are honestly not bad people just sadly misguided, torn up and hurt. Cassiopeia's theme does this too. That sad slow bit in the professor theme..it wasn't meant to be like this..let us put a end to it..before it all becomes destroyed...
Yes the composers used a lot of modulations in their writing of the Melodies which are designed to make you feel strong emotions. I love the music in this game so much!
With the time and space shenaningans in gen 7 & gen 9, one may wonder how dialga & palkia are slacking off on their jobs

The prof theme reminds me of the fight against Asriel in Undertale and it makes it sooooo nostalgic for me i love it. i absolutely love hearing Toby Fox's touch in these songs
My fav was Nemona, Casseopia, and Professors. They really hit it out the park this game. Made the battles feel so intense and important.
It sucks we dont get to hear these themes often.
What grinds my gears even more is how the Ace Academy Tournament theme just erases everyone’s personal theme. There’s enough trainers (all of the teachers) to play the theme fairly often, but you should still be able to listen to the amazing personal themes

The gym leaders theme fits most of the gym leaders, it fits Moiskr1tical’s assistant due to being able to use it on a rave, the beginning fitting Larry perfectly… the screams of suport of iono’s tier threes and nemona fitting the region

Cassiopeia’s theme goes so hard for such a pisspoor team she has. I had to hold back to hear more of the theme in game cos I was just one-shotting everything she sent out.
I don't like the beginning of it because it has too many robotic sounds, the rest it great
I couldn't agree less, I absolutely love the champion theme. Especially the guitars. But I'm glad to see Team Star Grunt get the recognition they deserve. It's a shame you never hear more than 30 seconds of it in the actual game
i dont know if ive ever heard a cooler final battle theme in pokemon than with the AI defense protocal and their 6 Past/Future pokemon. they also have three pokemon you wouldnt have seen until that point which made it even better. ill never forget the AI sending out a robotic Volcarona, a robotic Tyranitar, and a robotic fusion of Gardevoir and Gallade. the Volcarona caught me soooo off guard and was probably the coolest pokemon redesign ive ever seen because of how much of a soft spot i have for that pokemon

To be fair to SV's story and its handling of Arven, the thematic core of the story has to do with pursuing your "greatest treasure", i.e. identifying what you care about most and fighting to realize it against all odds. Your protagonist sort of earns their place as a prominent character not because they have a compelling personality but because they care SO much about Pokemon (i.e. they are us) that their greatest treasure is EVERYTHING. The Pokemon League and being Nemona's best rival; the Titans and helping Arven with his partner; Team Star and fighting to get them to go back to school and stop being self-imposed pariahs; your character does EVERYTHING because we care about all of these people and doing right by everybody and achieving the pinnacle of our greatness.
Yeah it does suck that Arven didn't have the ability to get a bit more closure about his parent but I think that is sort of the point of Sada/Turo being an AI. His actual parent is gone and the AI can't be a replacement for them. He can't get that closure, nor is he strong enough to fully embody your determination to save the day. He just has to accept the hand he was dealt and accept the new possibility he has been given to forge a new path with new friends who love him in a way he couldn't receive from his parent.
It's honestly super sad and sobering but I think it works.
I think Geeta's theme is the way it is cause it was Masuda's last song as a sendoff before he left gamefreak, though I can see why you don't like it.

I don't think it was Masuda's last song as Minako Adachi composed and arranged it. All songs in this game do have Masuda's influence but none is directly composed by him so I don't know who told you and many others that it was Masuda's send-off song.
The Star Champion theme doesn't go as hard as the Star Leader theme because their leader doesn't want to steal the show from her friends ♡

Can we talk about the genius of wild themes?
It starts you with Poco Path's vanilla theme then it turns into tunes more of an extension of field themes after you set foot into wider worlds. Inlet Grotto does leads you up to it, but you think it's more like an event theme for Miraidon / Koraidon.
In the game, it is said that the dark-type boss wrote all the team star music

Why is east province not getting the praise that it warrants I am so heartbroken 💔💔. I thought everybody would go like "OMG is that a 5/4 6/4 ALTERNATING TIME SIGNATURE I HEAR?!?!?!". I do love undertale music and I think it's amazing but tbh east province is more complex (Transposing a piece without microtones up a quarter tone does NOT count as microtones). I love how east province uses a 5/4 time signature but does not stick to the 1231231212 rhythm that everybody uses.

I adore that legendary quartet theme...also, no field themes? Like area zero's theme is probably my fave track in the game. Overall I wouldn't say this is my fave ost for Pokémon, but it has some absolute bangers in it especially for the main charas

The Area Zero overworld music/"route" music is missing. It's my favorite. Created such an unsettling atmosphere with a sprinkle of wonder and curiosity

I like how the battle themes in each area mix in with the regular theme. When you enter a battle, it's almost like the music is not interrupted and I like that a lot.

I think it's because the vs thing doesn't appear since the beginning part is meant to play right before they send their pokemon so the game thinks it's still doing that? Similar to the gym leader theme. But that's just speculation.
I think the composer elaborated on their twitter, but basically, the loop part that plays before you actually start the fight (i.e, the "You are challenged by ...!" part) was bugged, so it only played the looped part, not continuing the actual track.

Man, the Star Boss theme might be my favourite Pokemon song of all time, not even joking. It slaps so damn hard!
Koraidon/Miraidon’s theme feels more like “Victory Lies Before You!” More than anything
I also love how the Turo/Sada battle is the Raid Den theme in minor key because the whole battle essentially is against a Terrastelized AI
Overall I really love being able to hear the Spanish influence on most of the tracks. It makes the OST uniquely Paldean in some ways, which makes me appreciate it more than other gens OSTs.
I love the way the Gym Leader theme opens, haven't enjoyed the first 5 seconds of a song that much since XY Trainer battle
Penny's theme/ Cassiopeia is a BOP
My favorite ost is the legendary quartet theme, it surprise so mutch with the rithm changing and the rithm is so good.
If anyone’s wondering, the beginning part of the tournament battle theme can be found in the team aqua/magma grunt battle theme.
I love how every theme is dynamic. Makes the music ten times better.
Having Toby Fox on-board really helped give that final battle have the gravitas and emotional payoff it needed, goddamn.
Sada and Turo's theme sounds very Tokyo drift-like. Like, imagine if instead of having a normal pokemon battle you would be racing around the insides of the facility on the legendary pokemon while battling and then you hear that music. That to me would've been a peak final boss battle.

The AI professor battle them is high S and if I am wrong for that, I never want to be right. Infact, to me it is top 5 themes in all of Pokemon. Infact, all of the team Star, and Area Zero themes are all S tier too me. They went so hard in this game

Professor Turo/Sada's theme is the music that plays when you use pkhex to give yourself pokemon.
HACKING MUSIC INTENSIFIES
The real bummer of Pokémon music is that they always have all kinds of great tiny details but the speakers that drive them can’t actually pick them up. The first half of the gym battle theme is my favorite because of all the little things in the background building up behind the loop.
The gym leader theme keeps making me think that the song was only made for a few gym leaders in mind. It seems fitting for someone like Iono or Kofu, but with Brassius or Tulip? Overall doesn't really seem to live up to the intensity of past gym leader themes. My favourites so far are the XY and SS ones.
I really like how Colosseum × XD esque the overall sound to the region is, its like they added spanish sounds with a jazzy modern sound one of the best osts of modern pokemon!
I love the music from Scarlet and Violet especially the lechonk song and the song that has graveyard on it. This is the best music in a Pokemon game. Also team star has awesome songs. And I love Penny's theme it's so good.
Unfortunately, by the time I did everything, I was like 15 levels over Turo's Pokemon, so it was super easy for me, and listening to the song makes me wish I had experienced the song in its entirety in game lol
I can tell you that I was hugely underleveled and the fight was mostly easy. Good theme though

Glad someone agrees that the Team Star battle themes are hands down the best themes in the game. Especially Grunts-that battle theme goes SO HARD for battles that normally last about 20 seconds....

If you listen very closely to both Arven and Bede's themes, you'll see a huge similarity in pacing and tempo between them. This is actually one reason why I like Arven's theme.

Honestly find it hilarious re: Champion Theme how much Pat and chat didn't like it. I was really into the references. Honestly, Champion is traditionally the END of the game and it makes perfect thematic sense for it to make callbacks to different moments in your journey.
I still find this fun, whether I catch them live or watch the vod later. But its very, very clear the commentary is different from seeing musician/composers/performers/those with musical knowledge reacting to something. Which makes it fun, but sometimes a little predictable/makes me wince. Like leitmotifs are important to story building! Repetition and remixes/variants on leimotifs are IMPORTANT and help build story and tie certain characters stories together!!
Clavell/Clive was great, and another example. Chat seemed to not like it. Slow songs seem to get commonly called boring or low tier. Not everything needs to be fast rock or immediately in your face to be GOOD. But, its all opinion based, so its not wrong. I just feel certain types of songs seem to be underappreciated for not fitting a certain type.
That being said, it was a fun video and fun to see what you enjoyed.
I just personally compare (full disclosure not musically educated) chat not liking a certain speed of a theme as an individual not liking a type of music like Country or Pop. It just doesn't line up with their specific tastes. It's just not what they want. It's why I personally wince when people get mad at others and give them reasons for why the theme is how it is. Just cause they know now doesn't automatically make them like it. In their humble opinion they aren't a fan. Now if they say something willfully ignorant, they should be called out but saying something like "I'm not a big fan of the all over the place nature of Geeta's theme" shouldn't really get someone burned at the stake.
By the way, not saying you're doin this. I just think back to when Pat rated the SM and SwSh Champion theme and people kept trying to justify why the song was like that and how Pat was "wrong" for "not getting it".
It just sounds like there's TOO many different things put into it... I dislike it a lot
The champion battle theme surprisingly goes hard in official Pokemon tournament circuit
Bliitzit uploaded the same song under two different titles of Penny and Cassiopeia. I'd like to think it's because for avoiding spoilers by misleading someone who had them popped up on recommendations but didn't want to click it.
Area Zero / "Paradox Pokemon" also seems to be the case, but in this one Area Zero actually has two different versions (upper and lower) in it. The one Bliitzit called as "Paradox Pokemon" was the lower version.
Also Bliitzit seems to have left out the phase 1 theme for Paradise Protection Protocol, which comes before "Koraidon / Miraidon Theme" which is actually a comeback theme for it.

I think the Koraidon/Miraidon's battle theme is upbeat and optimistic because it's not supposed to be the enemy Paradise Protection Protocol Koraidon/Miraidon's battle theme, it's *OUR* Koraidon/Miraidon's battle theme.
For that last song. I never got to the beat drop twice because I OH-KOed both of them.

I actually got the elite 4 theme glitch but the next time I faced them it was Normal and I vibed through the entire theme, and I mean I was DANCING the entire time I faced the elite 4 lol
The E4 theme and Champion theme bug has to do with the memory leak. Restarting fixes them. I didn’t have the bug since I’d freshly restarted naturally before doing those fights, because I was restarting my game every few hours.
So save and restart your game often! Performance is overall better and you'll see less bugs!
The genre for pennys boss theme is gabber and to some its too rough, its what eventually became hardstyle and hardcore.
