    The 911 is just dancing around with Walter behind the wheel. Yaris looking pretty lit too especially with the Rothmans livery.

  • @youtubemodsaresnowflakelef7692

    Röhrl was a demigod behind the wheel. He couldn't just do Rally, he was also great on the track despite hating that kind of racing (he said verbatim that you have to be a swine to be a good racer). Most of the F-1 Legends of his era agreed he would've been a World Champion in F-1 too.
    He did amazing in the 24h when everyone else had to go slow because of excessive fog, while he still went full speed with barely slower lap times, because of his insane photographic memory. In IMSA him and Stuck lapped the whole field in one race, and easily dominated in others (but they let their American teammate "win" the season, because Audi wanted America sales). American teams cried so hard, that Audi kept having to add extra weight and finally was banned.
    When they brought him to DTM to help Stuck win the title, in his very first race (Norisring, I think) he told Stuck "I'll be way ahead of all of you, but don't worry, I'll make sure you win". Stuck asked him if he was crazy, and said "There is no way ahead in DTM".
    Ultimately Röhrl was so far ahead (despite 2-3 different drivers trying their hardest to spin him and even take him out, early on) that they didn't even show him on TV, when the race was shown. Both the Audi team and Stuck were swearing on the radio. Walter Röhrl told them to shut up. "You will win, but how and when you win is up to me and me only".
    On the last lap he only went in 1st gear, allowing Stuck (another legend of DTM, and other forms of racing) to win by like a car lenght.

      @@sheddy22 One time Röhrl was driving on the Nürburg Ring in a Ferrari. The same model was ahead of him, but wouldn't let him pass. Röhrl was swearing, angry and saying shit like "Who is that slow bastard, that won't let me by". He finally passed him, and the other guy kept trying to stay with him but ultimately couldn't.
      Turns out the other driver was Michael Schumacher (7 time F-1 World Champion, 91 Victory, 68 Pole-Positions und 155 Podium finishes), who was also wondering who was riding his ass that hard, and finally pulled away from him...

    • @nirfz
      @nirfz Před rokem +8

      Small corection it's not that Haywood won because audi wanted american sales, it's why they started racing there in the first place.
      In the frist racing series Audi started (trans am) Stuck and Röhrl basically shared a cockpit while (at least in the first racing series they went and dominated: trans am) Stuck had other races around the world to do and so whenever he had no time Röhl would race, while Hurley Haywood did the whole season in the other car. Haywood was by no means a slow driver (former 24 hours of le mans winner ect.), but it's that he intentionally did the whole season while the others didn't, that he won.
      The first race is even here on YT where they show interviews of the drivers along the race, and when they ask Haywood about the car he says "the awd is so great, i don't need to take the normal line, i can go everywhere and still be fast." (They had no chance on the straights, but they won everything on brakes, corner speed and corner exit.
      The trans am race, where Röhl lapped the whole field except the second is also here on YT. Watched it recently and the funniest thing is that it was a pretty tight course and they had a speed trap on one corner. All the Corvettes and stuff went around that corner and the commentator got excited when they clocked in around 68, 69 mph. And when they eventually showed the leader (Röhl) in that corner, he was doing 89mph through the corner. After a very short moment of silence the commentator showed his amazement about the sheer corner speed that guy was doing. Some are blessed with extraordinary talent. (and to me it seems that most of these people did ride the monsters of Group B. Blomquist, Mouton, Mikula, Vatannen, Alen, Toivonnen, Salonnen...)
      There is a fun video by Mr, Ficara about the whole audi and trans am, Haywood, Stuck, Röhlr thing.

      @youtubemodsaresnowflakelef7692 Před rokem +1

      @@nirfz All of that to say that I was right anyway. That's why they had Stuck and Röhrl share, so Haywood could win.
      I didn't say he was a bad driver, but there's no way he would've beaten either Stuck or Röhrl (esp. not Röhrl) and won the championship over the whole season.
      Audi hired him also instead of bringing on another German driver so they'd have an American face...

    • @nirfz
      @nirfz Před rokem +1

      @@youtubemodsaresnowflakelef7692 No, that's the point, the intention wasn't to lower the number of races for the germans so the american wins. They looked for racers, and while Stuck was busy in other races but agreed to do some for them, Röhrl by that time for sure didn't want to race a whole season. (i mean after his second WRC title his wife said "now it's enough" and he refused to do whole seasons there too.)
      They picked Haywood because he knew the tracks and was fast and available for the whole season.
      Heck they even were the only ones to take 3 cars from the production line and modify them while their competition had "silouette" cars with tube frames underneath. Audi acted in a short time with what and whom they could get.
      I am a Röhl fan for sure, and i do think HJ Stuck was an exceptionally good all round racer too, but you make it look like Haywood wasn't. And that's not right. He was a very constant, reliable and fast racer.
      (You don't have teams like Porsche giving you a cockpit if you aren't, and he did race for Porsche too in his carreer)

      Senna is the exact opposite of Walter Röhrl also, hence "interesting" list. Röhrl hated circuit racing, literally saying "you have to be a swine to do it", whereas Senna embodied that "spirit" via being willing to ram others to get the "win".
      For example as he did with Prost. Senna and his fans can lie as much as they want that it was an accident, the telemetry data tells the truth that he even stepped on the gas more to make sure he'd hit him and hit him hard enough to take him out + endanger both of them.

    • @youtubemodsaresnowflakelef7692
      @youtubemodsaresnowflakelef7692 Před rokem

      Because this is probably not a real rally car, and in more modern cars (even early 2000s cars) you can't left foot brake, unless you disable some electronics first. The electronics won't allow you to brake and input gas at the same time, if you tap the brake the gas pedal is essentially disabled.
      You can disable that, but if you do it in your street car you void your insurance. Not to mention it's easier said than done if you don't know how to do it properly, you can lose control fairly quickly. And that is in ideal road conditions, let alone driving a car on snow (and maybe ice even). Especially a car that is probably not yours, but a rental for this event...

      @@rc2634 Winnipeg is at just about 50 degrees. The southernmost point of Sweden is around 55, which makes it further north than Winnipeg. My geography is fine, thanks

    Well, it's no shame not to keep up with a 76-year-old guy if his name is Walter Röhrl.
    I'm surprised he chose the 911. It's notorious for kicking the back end. An Audi 4X4 would have been my choice.

    I am not as good a driver as you, by super far, but I can tell your weak spot is this sliding stuff. I want to say your too late to react to the car, the cars already well sideways, momentum is saying more sideways coming (unsavable angles) and im screaming at the screen to start unwinding the wheel, following the momentum so you can softly catch it not correct when its too late. Your not telling the tires what to do, your telling the whole cars momentum where it should be. A couple of those full lockers is actually out of control but your sort of cheating with awd letting it pull you back. Not the exp you had in the rwd cars, cant cheat so it spins or the lines off. The theory applies to all cars, base physics type thinking. You got snow there, take a low hp awd or rwd car out, turn off any rational thoughts and car handling/driving ediquite "rules" and just feel the car, slide it around, go with the mistakes, see if you can save them, go be really hoony and illegal (safely-ish) try weird shit weird inputs just to see how things react. Every moment struggling is teaching your subconscious something new. You have the grip experience, gaining more with this kind of hoon/rally style driving would only enhance your driving abilities! Thanks for making all this wonderful content! Love your ch!!

      Hey hey! You are correct, the only thing is I am doing therse things on purpose as I am not trying to keep the car as straight as possiblem, but go overdone sideways. I am having fun here and something that looks good on camera. When it's competition (this year or last year with Stig Blomqvist) you can see a totally different driving style from me.
